Kristen when my daughter was 17 years old she accidentally ran over our sweet dog when she pulled into the driveway coming home from school. It was a horrible accident and I kept replaying the scene over and over in my head, just devastated. Sometimes awful, senseless things happen and we are left with heartbreak. It will take time but your family will heal. Keep talking about your sweet Reese with your girls and encourage their tears. She was loved!

We are a family of dog lovers and have suffered many losses through the years. Every loss was hard. My sister hurts the worst of all. Right now we have Bella who is 12 and slowing down. My granddaughter calls her "Sister". So I think your reaction is perfectly normal. I am bawling my eyes out for you. I'm so very sorry for the loss of your furry family member. I lost a pet this way shortly after moving onto a busy street and it was so traumatic. The hardest part is reliving it in your head over and over. You have so many beautiful memories and it's that last horrible one that haunts you. Oh, Kristen ... I'm crying with you. A few months ago, I had to put down my 15 year-old cocker spaniel, Shadow. I had him since he was 7 months old (right after my husband died). Shadow was old and his health had deteriorated badly. So, I understand the grief and pain you're experiencing. Please don't blame yourself. Your dog knew you and your family loved him by how he was treated and cared for. Please give yourself some grace because it was an accident. I hope your little girls are doing okay. If you are holding yourself responsible, please forgive yourself. You did nothing wrong because nothing you did was intentional. I will pray for you and your family. It will be hard for a while, but I promise it will get better. Give yourself time to heal. Just as the LORD gives us grace, please give yourself some grace. ❤️

I too cried along with you. I am a huge dog lover and on my fifth golden. Some lived out their life fully and one died tragically. I feel your pain. Feel no guilt. You gave that dog a beautiful life. In return she gave you unconditional love. Your memories will make you laugh and make you cry, but the beautiful memories will always be with you and warm your heart just like Reese did. My back gate has been accidentally left open and my dog has escaped, however we were just lucky. Please don't blame yourself. I never realized how painful it was to lose a pet until it happened to me. The way you described Reese, and how how he just loved your girls shows such sweetness and devotion. It wasn't until after we had to put our 7 year old dog down because of a large tumor did I understand why I would hear people say they didn't want another dog after theirs died. It's just such a painful experience 😭 Of course we did get another dog and I really think it helped with the healing process.

I have already commented on Instagram. Our yellow lab was eight when she passed from cancer, which we didn't know she had. We loved her so much. Then we got a sweet beagle who also passed last January from cancer. We found out she had it about four months before she passed. One of us was with her every minute for those four months. They both brought so much joy to our lives. They were almost like service dogs for my husband because he has PTSD. It has really been hard for him. If we were not 74 years old, we would get another one tomorrow. They are Heavenly Father's creations and he loves them too. I truly believe we will have them with us in heaven. The Lord will ease your pain...it just takes time. Sometime I still want to cry and it has been nine months. I pray for your family.

Kristen, I’m so sorry about your beloved Reese. Accidents happen, you did nothing intentional! It was an accident! We had a sweet little love bird as a pet and I accidentally smoked up a Teflon pan one morning before school. When we got home our sweet little bird was dead! I had no idea that Teflon was toxic to birds. Needless to say, like you I beat myself up over this for a long time, but healing comes in time. Mourn her loss, but it wasn’t your fault!! ❤

It was not your fault. I can only imagine what a traumatic experience that was for you and the girls. It is clear that you loved Reese very much and she had a wonderful life with your family. I know the pain of losing a much loved dog. We lost our Annie to cancer last spring and my husband and I grieved deeply for months. Three weeks ago we were able to welcome Ellie Mae into our home. We will never forget Annie, or Molly, or Happy. Our kids are well into adulthood with families (including dogs) of their own. They still talk about all of the dogs we shared our life with. This immense grief and trauma will heal and your girls will recall the happy times with Reese. Be gentle with your self.

Oh my sweet friend I’m so very sorry for your pain. I can’t stop crying while writing this message! The pain of loosing a pet especially one so dear to your heart is real! Unfortunately people who don’t have animals (pets) don’t always understand just how bad it hurts…loosing them, actually feels like the loss of a family member. I know all to well how you’re feeling right now. The exact tragedy happened to my family. We lost our sweet boy 10 years ago…the exact same way. Our boy was a very smart, sweet & beautiful yellow lab as well. He was 4 years old. He looked just like your Reese. We didn’t have a fence…My husband & I never thought anything like this would happen…mainly because we live on a very long dead end dirt road with a few acres between the 4 families on our road. We’d never had much traffic…well, that was until one of our neighbors decided to sale their home and a young couple bought it. One day while my husband was working in our front yard he let our sweet boy out so he could run & get exercise & play with our neighbors dog directly across from us. The young man who just bought the home (at the end of our rd) came flying down in his pickup and hit him. Oh it was awful. We took him straight to our vet, but unfortunately he died as soon as my husband carried him into the office. The sad part is the young man never apologized & never even asked how he was doing. Your tragic story hits hard. My boys were teenagers & I know how upset they were… I can’t imagine what your poor girls are going through. I pray you & your precious family get the peace & understanding you will so need & that our Heavenly Father’s arms be wrapped around you extra tight during this time. Much ❤ and 🙏🏻 sent your way.

I just watched this video and I am so sorry for your loss. The same thing happened to my daughters dog last year, he was hit by a car and it was devastating for her and my grandchildren. You gave her a loving home and she was truly blessed to be your dog ❤️

Reese was such a beautiful dog. Our pets are truly members of our families. We are never ready to say goodbye. I firmly believe that we will see them again in heaven. Two months ago we lost our little Maltese, Rosey. She was 12 years old. So I understand the heartache and loss that you feel.
