19:00 Mark, I do keep my babies and juveniles in a separate container once it comes time to clean out the adult bin and one reason for this is because I have heard the adults can eat the babies as a moisture source and I can keep track better how my colony is doing and I can grow out my juveniles and keep count of how many male to female ratio I'm adding back to the adult bin!!! Just My 2cents

I’ve heard things about not feeding citrus to dubias that are feeders. Also I’ve been told conflicting things regarding calcium for dubias. There is a concern that they may be unable to molt properly if they have too much calcium. Have you heard any of this and/or had issues with these with your colonies? There is so much conflicting information in this hobby. I appreciate you tubers like you, who set a high standard for animal care!

I only have 1 beardie and I'm buying 155 mix dubias... I'm worries that will be too much but I want them to provide a sustainable staple diet and beardies can eat a lot of nymphs.. any advice appreciated.. I don't want 100k dubias lol I do not intend to sell them
@fitodaking162 жыл бұрын
@@basedcanadian6869 that beardie will go thru them dubias quick. For dubias to start breeding and grow quickly, they will need a warm temperature, high humidity, and a lot of food. I always fed my dubias fresh produce. If you just keeping the dubias to feed your beardie, just keep them somewhere warm and dark. Feed them daily, enough for 1 day. Don't leave food in their bin, a lot of mold and worms will grow in their bin which will be bad. You can feed your beardie as much dubias as it can eat. I use to feed my bearded dragon dubias daily. Your beardie will thank you
@basedcanadian68692 жыл бұрын
@@fitodaking16 thanks for that. I've done a lot of research on how to keep them. I'm getting 155 mixed as well as another 100 nymphs separately for feeders. I was wondering if 155 mixed was too much but it sounds like it could be a good amount to start a growing colony... if he eats 20 a day that's 600 a month 🤯.. maybe I need even more.. but I don't want the colony to explode to 100,000 lol
@fitodaking162 жыл бұрын
@@basedcanadian6869 the only reason why I got to 100k in a year was because I never fed the dubias to my reptiles. I only had the dubias for breeding. I fed some of my males to my reptiles but that's about it. Also, you need to decide if you want to do a 3:1 ratio or a 5:1 ratio. 3 females per 1 male or 5 females per 1 male. Since you don't want your colony to explode, I recommend you 3:1 ratio. If you want a lot of dubias like me, I would use the 5:1 ratio method. Also, try feeding the males off to your beardie, keep your females for breeding.

For invertebrates: Never ever use a headpack on them! You can cook them with it. Roaches can get their humidity with their food, best is organic food. Pumpkins are great food sources for roaches. Roaches can get their protein from plant matter, so, don't give them cat food or dog food.

Microwave your oats before feeding them to your dubia, add a pinch or two of goldfish flakes/dried seaweed, mix in some bee pollen sprinkles with their food. Keep a few egg cartons really tight (mothers will be more compelled to leave their babies in their and will resume to breeding sooner. Once you start seeing x-large roaches, remove all your adults and start feeding the weaker less active roaches or you’ll start getting really squishy/smelly dying roaches.

Also if you dust your bugs with the right supplements then you do not need to feed your bugs that gut load with calcium. If you feed too much calcium then it makes their shell harder and they won’t be able to molt, if you’re feeding them before their next molt then that’s okay. But honestly it’s not necessary if you dust them, and that’s be way cheaper.
@cheyennecampbell89359 ай бұрын
I do wonder about the rotting food thing because roaches are supposed to be decomposer. I wonder if there is a good way to know how that actually affects them. Plus I didn’t know the protein thing was potentially poisonous, I just heard that it’s just not good for you to feed a high protein roach to your pet, but I have a Savannah monitor and a good source of protein is helpful.
