I know, im late to the Party, but the measurement you are seaching for in the rectangular Pattern is sin(60 deg) * pattern_width * 2 Hope that helps anybody to make it parametric Thank you for the Tutorial, it really helped to get most of the way parametric with that Project
@mdalacu Жыл бұрын
Hi! The measure value is pattern_offset = 3 * pattern_width / sqrt(3) Enjoy!

thank you for this generous sharing. how can i extrude the sylindre so as to have a roller while keeping the texture. thank you

You can create a sketch on top/bottom face and sketch a circle + Extrude it to create "handles"

Do you think you could maybe share the fusion file ? I want to do the same thing, but i am Stuck at 2:47 for 30mins as i cant seem to Figure out how to set the secound parmater it just creates the rectangle with one paramter once i Press enter and i cant change the secound
@KristianLaholm9 ай бұрын
You should be able to set the dimensions then you create the rectangle or after. Check that you do not get any strange auto constraints applied in the sketch. And in general if Fusion is behaving strange, save the design and restart Fusion.

I don't see the "Type" (video 6:22) function in your "Rectangular Pattern" window so i cant seem to select like you. Could you explain to me? Thank you
@KristianLaholm3 жыл бұрын
Check that you are using Sketch Rectangular pattern and not Rectangular pattern of body, feature etc. Will you are editing the sketch hit s on the keyboard and type in rectangular, you will see 2 rectangular pattern you want the one with not filled blue dots.

This is awesome, but what if you wanted to create a seamless pattern from an imported file? For example, I'd really like to create a seamless paisley pattern around a cylinder, but it seems impossible as there is no exact control over the size and position of imported SVGs. Any idea how you would do that?
@KristianLaholm4 жыл бұрын
I would add a construction line to the pattern where it repeats, Measure the line and use Scale to resize the sketch. It's a bit of try and error. :)
@ClownWhisper3 жыл бұрын
i think you would take a small slice out of the cylinder then flatten the cylinder (unfold), apply your file and size it, emboss and refold it
@emanggitulah43193 жыл бұрын
Measure and scale it

Can you use EMBOSS to put a pattern on an oval face rather than round?
@KristianLaholm4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it takes some thinking if you want it to line up around the face. If the pattern/face is not to big I would emboss 1/4 of the pattern and then use mirror to fill the face.
@quail3334 жыл бұрын
Thanks, nice,I have been struggling with that.

Hey First off, this video is really helpful! But I have a question, I was able to figure out how to cut out the holes and leave the hex pattern behind but on all the hex's were they join up there is a line down the center is there any way to get rid of this?? Thanks!
@KristianLaholm2 жыл бұрын
I don't know how you did your workflow. But I'd extrude a second cylinder cutting away the inside leaving the hexagon holes.

@@KristianLaholm I ended up figuring it out! I just had to measure the left over distance and add that distance to the pattern modifier with the PI math

Thanks it's very useful! How would you go about rounding all the edges so that it is easier to 3d print in vase mode? Something like a fillet but without having to select every line. Also is it possible to emboss with a draft angle so that it looks better?
@KristianLaholm3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. You could Fillet after the Emboss and before the Circular pattern, and add the Fillet Feature to the pattern. Or do other manipulation to make it look good :) Emboss/Deboss for now only follow the normal of the face, draft or chamfer can be added but is a bit of work.
@nicolascancio12403 жыл бұрын
@@KristianLaholm if y fillet before the circular pattern some secretions of the pattern are not rounded (where the half hexagones meet)
@KristianLaholm3 жыл бұрын
@@nicolascancio1240 Only thinking on the top of my head, you could make one pattern to get all the edge, fillet and work from there. Anyway it takes some work to get pattern to work in Fusion. If you want the patterns "perfect" and the software to do the work have a look at Dynamo for Fusion (there are other similar software, haven't tried any of them)

Your video has really helped me out after trawling through countless other KZbinrs videos that seemed keen to show you the finished result but not how to get there, so bravo. Your narration speed is perfect too. Is there a way of reversing the emboss some how so that the body of the hexagon takes out the majority of the side and not the wall section. Thank you
@KristianLaholm3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. You can select the inside profile and not the wall end deboss that in to the cylinder (if I understod your question correctly), there can be some problems with thin walls left behind by the circular pattern.
@GospodinJean3 жыл бұрын
Great video man! QUESTION: what if the Cylinder was hollow? I mean. a section of a pipe. and what if instead of embossing this hexagonal pattern, I would like it to be embossed deep enough that it cut through the surface of that pipe? would that be possible to do? I am willing to do ths in order to 3d print and save material. As for printing overhangs with less than 60 degrees, no supports are needed. (and an hexagon has exactly 60 degrees overhang)
@KristianLaholm3 жыл бұрын
It's possible and no problem to model. But it can be a bit of a torture test of your 3D printer, you might need to slow down the print speed and do some test prints to get a stable result :)
