She's just camping up the aria. It's a comedy routine. Extremely well done. Why don't you all just go take a poop and chill out. Enjoy it for what it is.

I’m gonna tell you the same thing I told the other person that replied to you I’m an opera purist. I have admit that right here and right now but her timing was perfect. She was on key she was on pitch and this was supposed to be funny, because this was a comedy sketch, I mean she sang the aria amazingly, and She was funny and besides, it’s not like she’s actually in the opera, the magic flute for us, the queen of the night she’s singing the aria in a TV show and it’s supposed to be comical. She didn’t do anything wrong here. I really don’t know what people are complaining about and again I’m saying this is an opera pierced.

I hope the people who are pointing out all of her mistakes realize she's not giving it 100%. It's a comedy and she's largly reacting to the couple's dispute rather than trying to sing her best. We all know she could do it much better if she was playing it straight.

That might be true. Anyways, most singers in musicals and operas here in Germany are not German and they often sing without the hint of an accent, even those who don't speak the language. Anyways, Kristin does it pretty well.

And the thing is as a Restaurant singer in a comedy scene in a sitcom, the fact her German pronunciation wasn't perfect completely took me out of the scene. I just couldn't believe that she'd be singing an aria in a restaurant, it was unrealistic. She should've worked harder on the German pronunciation because that would've definitely made the scene funnier and in a sitcom, playing a woman who isn't singing at the met but singing an aria in a restaurant obviously funny is the main objective and I just don't know what she was thinking because better pronunciation would have achieved that.

Do you REALLY think that someone who has a MAJOR in Opera and was offered one of the MOST prestigious opera scholarships EVER, would not pronounce words right if it wasn't on purpose? Hey now! A lot of opera singers are a lot of fun too! This skitzoid kid who is critical of Kristen ALWAYS wants to give world class opera singers advice about their high notes. He said Roberta Peters "sucked", Joan Sutherland retired too late, and now how Kristen Chenoweth can't have a bit of fun and make us laugh because she missed a top F while goofing around. I'm also a real opera singer (not world class, but not too shabby either) and I LOVE her doing this. Don't judge us based on this kid who isn't a singer...guessing he's a failed musician.

+curlyguy92 I have had a drink or two and have not checked it on my piano but I do agree the money note F's do sound a bit off. Perhaps not flat but they are definitely at the end of her range. Although Kristen dose have an exceptional range, those F's are a challenge even for the best operatic sopranos. The Queen of The Night is a very challenging role and while I have no doubt she could sing it I'm not convinced she has the voice type for it. I feel she would be better suited to the role of Pamina. That is however just my opinion.

(After having read some of the comments:) I thought this was great fun. Okay, some disrespect to the original seriousness of the opera, but a great use of the repeated notes for comic gestures. And I say this as someone who is an opera purist. Didn't we used to enjoy the Bugs Bunny cartoons like "Wabbit of Seville" after all? Too bad she and Madeline Kahn couldn't have done stuff together with their comedy and their singing. That would have been worth the price of admission.

She has a terrific coloratura voice!! I sang opera (professionally for many years, with many outstanding/famous artists). She definitely has to voice to sing this role at The Met ( and anywhere else) if she wanted too!! Brava!!

@skitzo429 She sang a tall, pure open O vowel, no "oa" diphthong about it! She let a teeny bit more air escape on the ach-laut. Very minor. Like you said, it's a television comedy. It is easy when you're singing to make minor mistakes you don't realize. One of my voice instructors who has sang Carmen for New York City Opera still pays for vocal coaching because SHE does stuff without realizing it.

Kristin has a Masters in Opera, which means that she would of course have studied one of the most famous operas in the world--she's just acting. I'm sure if she was not able to hit the high notes or didn't understand this aria, she wouldn't have done it.

@remyfacade The school you're thinking of is the Academy of Vocal Arts. It's a private institution that you are paid to attend if you are accepted. It's one of the topmost honors in the opera world. I didn't know however if she was actually accepted or was just there to audition for it, when instead she auditioned for Broadway and got on that route.

The first "ich"-laut isn't good (a "sh" which is sometimes accidentally substituted to carry better), plus two diphthongs that get a bit American (which is understandable bc this is a comedic scene). That is all. Other than that it is fine. In all likelihood she never actually sang this professionally, and this scene is more a comedic thing. I can't really blame you though. It's one of the biggest coloratura pedestal arias in repertoire. One mistake = Armageddon...

@remyfacade she took it seriously when she attended OCU, the name of the school you're trying to think of. If she still took it seriously, she'd do performances/ recitals of operatic literature. Instead, the only time she sings opera is in a shitty one season sitcom. I'm fine with the fact that she chose the more profitable route of musical theater, it's just a waste of talent in my opinion. A voice type like Chenoweth's is one of the rarest a soprano can have.

She still practice it. I just think she realized she had way more to offer than just opera, and she was right. if she would have stayed on her original path we might not know who she is today.
