On the boat packing etc, . . 'wake baits'. Kris, what you'll find out is difference between throwing baits close quarters, in shallows on a kayak (seat of kayak being perfect place to throw a short distance wake bait from). Problem with bass boat, is being elevated so high off water (David Dudley practiced using raised platform, same height as his bass boat deck when testing baits in swimming pool). So wake baits, yeah, maybe or not. What I'd suggest is just having a basic view baits you take out you know kind of work from a casting point of view (when you're not seated low down to water in the kayak). Start a way simpler on the bait selection side, and just go fishing. Then be very careful and selective what additional baits or bait systems you add into that boat locker (at the moment that boat locker is packed with your favorite baits for kayak angling). Flip Pallot made a very shalliw draft skiff for navigating shallows for Tarpon in Florida. The point of mentioning that, is yes there is a boat angling tradition that is similar to kayak angling, being lower to the water etc. But still, that's a stable wide standing platform (I'm a fly angler who wades, and have transitioned lately to learning baitcaster rod angling from pier sides etc with elderly guys, who can't wade waist deep any more). So yeah, same thing, we've no clue 'how to fish' when our feet are dry. No idea, and it's weird to us. Ott de Foe's 'five baits' for a certain month, those kinds of episodes from Ott are actually the best way to approach bass boat fishing (Ott uses search lures, followed up by his 'clean up' lures, . . so Ott in that MLF format, was weaving 'practice fishing' using his search bait, in with things like jig fishing for proper fishing, followed up by wacky rigs for further clean up of same area). You have to continue to fit 'practice periods' to expand areas etc, during competition days. All I think you need on a boat is that system, because your boat gives you the locomotion to fish differently to in the kayak.

Thanks for the update Kristine! We will be with you through every hill and valley! Whenever you feel like you are in a valley, you gotta remember all the hills that the Lord helped you climb to and everything he has done for you. Rejoice in those moments and no matter how deep the valley might seem, just know that the Lord can bring you up out of the valley just like he has done time and time again! So excited to follow and support you through your journey! I will keep you in my prayers! Best of luck in the kayak and in the boat!

Best of luck! I’ve enjoyed watching your Kayak fishing videos. I know this video is focused mainly on Bassmaster Open series, however you mentioned figuring out how to travel with your tin rig and kayak. I know you’re a gear junky, but it seems like a Hobie Lynx would be the best of both worlds. I’ve been thinking of it as my main pedal kayak when hauling my travel trailer and kayak. Best of luck in all your fishing tournaments and adventures this year! Be confident and give yourself grace when it feels tough.

For your hatch top you wanted ideas. Amazon has bag clips the your able to put a small self tapping screw into the aluminum rail to hold your soft plastic bags. I had two rows in my Ranger. Super handy to see all of them without digging through my bag.

Good luck on Clarks Hill. I have fished it since 1979. Massive lake, but most of my efforts were on upper end of Lake. I hope you win. Hope it's ice tea color while you are there. Bigguns' will be lurking. Good luck again.

Last time I fished in January in a boat at Clark's Hill was 2011. I know you've got this! I'm gonna make a trip to the lake, just to meet you, I love watching your videos and keep dreaming of the days I'll be back on the water fishing. However, at my age I do prefer warmer weather, 😆 prayers going up for you. See ya soon.

Het Kristine….sounds like I won’t be running into on the water at the Harris Chain anytime soon. I too have Ranger and it’s tough to be very artistic with the bait setup. But I will tell you what not to do. I wanted more speed so I followed lots of advice and put lots of my terminal tackle in that back deck. No, very bad idea. Yep….it made me go faster on the water. And it made me go fast to the tackle shops to replace a bunch of terminal stuff that got wet and rusted. Our Rangers tend to have a good wave come over the transom if you shut down in a hurry. Those storage areas are far from waterproof. Only what you don’t mind getting wet behind the drivers console. As for the hanging storage, there are a few small racks you can use up there to store minimal amounts of stuff. What not to do it use anything that stores by hanging. When the deck is closed, those hanging baits will get into what’s below. I had some magnetic storage strips there on mine. It really doesn’t hold much but I generally use it when I take a bait off, I attach to that strip so that it is out of the way and easily accessible if I choose to tie it back on. I put all of my very light stuff in the front right locker such as sufficient life jackets, throw Cushion, rain suit, warm/dry clothes, towels, etc. Not as much of an issue for you since you are so light but I’m a big boy and it help make up for we being in the drivers seat. The front left is for all my rods. I use rod sleeves on all rods and can really fit a ton in there. Not lowering expectations for you…..you bring such strong energy. That’s my expectation…..keep that going….success will follow. I know you like to push the encouragement of ladies getting on the water. I recognize you ladies need a strong voice. Just wanted to say my ears perked up when you said “guys too” in this video. Just remember to throw that out a few times here and there this season. 👍🏻 Now go get em tiger! 🎣

Years ago there were a couple people with double decker trailers. I don’t know if they exist but I’m sure you could get one built. Be careful on the Upper Bay and the St Lawrence they can both get very rough! Just because you have all that room doesn’t mean you have to use it, carry the same equipment that you would normally have with you in your kayak.

Kristine. I tend to watch a lot of the kayak videos/tournaments. I know you know Jeff Little . Of all the different Kayak fisherman I watch, he tends to come up with a lot of organizational ideas. When it comes to your forward hatch attachments for under the hatch cover. If I were you I might contact Jeff to get some ideas from Jeff. He also may have some other ideas. Just a thought Kristine, GOOD LUCK in the upcoming 2025 season.

There's no doubt that at the learning stage the electronic tools and assistants are crucial today (I think what pro fishing is maybe lacking from my perspective in the audience member ranks only, is a tournament circuit progression, whereby anglers lose more of the training wheels or assistance of sonar etc as they grow the bank account of experience). I totally agree with your overall direction, in terms of learning the ropes first, and trying to do things you're less familiar with. What's kind of strange from our point of view in audience now, is that we see pro anglers at the top using more and more electronic aids etc, and leaning too hard on that aspect (but a hundred percent, if I was a parent of a teenager for instance fishing on the Elites or Opens, I would want my teenage son or daughter to have scoping instruments etc to see underwater hazards, risks). And there are a plethora of really young, less experienced participants on these circuits now. It's okay to criticise a tournament organization, as I will do, but one fatality, accident or injury and the organization has to answer to those same parents. And it seems to me, if nothing else Bassmaster can operate these events well and safely. It has to count for something. It's just that young folks are propelled straight into Elites now, and there's no apprenticeship or tournament trail separate that says, okay these kids are too darn young (I was looking for a word, a probationary period, I mean you've been out there nine years now, and still haven't covered all of it). They need the bells and whistles, they need the training wheels etc. There's nothing yet, that's for the stage beyond that, a place where it is just pure fishing, how it started out. Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but one hundred percent less experienced boater's have to have a system they can feed into, where they can learn the basics. I think it's smart your own selection of that trail.
