I love that the fade patterns has allowed me to slowly support different dyers and save up for a sweaters worth of quality yarn! Instead of buying it all at once, I was able to slowly accumulate and I am so thankful for that!

YES! And, another idea that Shanna on Lambstrings was telling me about...her friend tried to find a fade at a yarn festival, buying a 1 skein from all different dyers so it was supporting many businesses and also a scrapbook of the festival!

Oh my gosh!! I have so much LOVE for this episode!! I'm a knitter, 38 weeks pregnant and haven't had a job for the last year but before that I've worked since I was like 13 years old. THANK YOU Kristy and Andrea for your honest mom-talk about knitting while nursing (I am so glad to hear that it's possible, because I have to figure it out) and also about doing what you love in order to invest in yourselves so you can be able to be great (and sane) for your kids.

You could be right, Kristy, but in my case I've been interested in dyeing yarn for about 5 years now. I never had time to do it all (knit, crochet, dye, etc.), while I was working 50 hrs a week. I finally took the plunge, and dyed my first skein, 6 months ago, while on a leave from work. I am so drawn to it, it has to be my calling. I am now in the process of starting up my business. I will say that Andrea Mowry's fade designs are really helping with the indy dyer's success and popularity, right now.

I love Andrea so much! She is so talented, cool, beautiful & humble! I want to be her OR at least be her friend. I have to say she has done wonders for indie dyers but I was first aware of Mara Catherine Bryan (Orange knits) first doing her gorgeous blends and using amazing indie dyed yarn for her knits. I'm not sure who did it first (as if it even matters!) but Andrea and Mara are def the queens of melting/blending/fading (WHATEVER YOU CALL IT IT IS BEAUTIFUL!)
