Great answer! It's been a long time since even brands of acrylic paints have been incompatible. There has long been commonly held (and repeated) beliefs that some pigments were incompatible, mostly relating to potential discoloration of lead white. The one color that "clots' or flocculates acrylics and PVA paints is traditional viridian (hydrous chromic oxide) which is why viridian is usually indicated as a "hue" in that type of paint. Artists might encounter this if they mix watercolor or gouache with PVA colors or acrylic mediums. These are not concerns that most artists need to consider, so you can basically just go paint and be happy!

My favorite procrastination activity right now is rearranging my pallets. And, of course, swatching is a huge part of it all. I'm sure that no one else has pans that you have no idea what they are. 😁

1. The lower right orange! I could eat it, and it’s all the better for not being photorealism. 2. Have you tried Schminke translucent orange? It’s the most luscious orange ever, and I don’t even like orange that much. 3. My regular palette is a mix of five or six brands, per a teacher I studied with for a number of years. Works for me, but I’ve never known any different. I did just make a Daniel Smith granulating palette, still curing. I’ll se how it goes. It might be overkill, but at least they’re at the ready if I need a little granulation. 4. Those details on the main-focus orange make sure we know it’s the focal point. I watch you with your liner and know I need to practice. And as always, thank you for encouraging us to learn but within our own voice.

I don't really use separate palettes for each brand of paint. I have a couple of empty palettes that I fill with colours(regardless of the brand) that I like to use regularly. Then I have a couple of palettes which have colours that I don't use often. I have a couple of small palettes with 6 colours only for when I am out and about and want to paint a little something. Even on my ceramic palette I have many brands of paint squeezed out in the corners to mix and blend as I am painting. It's fun to just mix and play...thanks for this - the painting is gorgeous by the way...

This gives me strong Lily Pulitzer vibes and I'm very much here for it! I don't usually mix palettes, _but_ I will have multiple brands in one palette. So like a few colours from say Daniel Smith, some from Qor, maybe a few specialty granulating colours from Schminke or Roman Szmal to create my "perfect" palette.

You know Kristy, I have a Thang for greens. I do a lot of folk artsy stuff and I cannot get enough green. So when I purchase a palette 🎨 ready made or if I'm getting tube sets I'm always lookin to see how many greens. Lol. And I'm lookin for pinks and purples too. Green though 👌 gurrrl please bwahahaa. 🖌🤩💚💫💚💫💜💗😺 loving this painting 🖼 😍 🍊🫒🍊🪄🍯 I buy extra paint for some palettes 🎨 and I'll mix em if it feels good. You just know when it'll work well ! I just splurrrrged on some sennellier watercolors. I'm so looking forward to seeing it in play Shine your heart light my beloved.

Bellybutton of the orange...navel! I went crazy in the Fall and bought Daniel Smith's quinacridone coral and Holbein's brilliant orange and jaune brilliant. I will definitely be mixing those with your palette (especially the peach and yellow!) to create something inspired by this tutorial. I LOVE mixing colors from diifferent brands; I usually try to blend on the paper and not on a separate palette. And despite my Type A characteristics, I have no fear about double-dipping the brush - it's fun!

Love those oranges! And I don't just think you *can* mix, I think you most definitely *should* . Out of the big watercolors brands, all of them tend to have their types of colors that they do really well, while they do not do so good in other areas. So take advantage of the huge variety out there and just get the best of everything.

Mixing palettes?? Does that mean by manufacturer? I have hundreds of tubes of watercolor. I create palettes by other categories besides maker. I have hi flow, no ox gal, eastern or western watercolors (transparency), floral, landscape, split primary palettes and others especially for mixing. All watercolor goes together, you might want to look at specific properties of each to have more fun and success painting. Manufacturer just gives me an idea how the paint will perform.

i made 2-1/2" by 3" swatches of all my tubes of color, then I picked my favorites, it's from 4 different brands (WN, DS, Qor and MGraham) then I picked my favorite colors from all the swatches, and put them in a palette, it's tres manifique! For instance, M Graham cobalt blue is my favorite of the 4, but DS ultramarine violet is my favorite of the 4 of that color, etc etc, so it turns out to be a fabulous palette. Last week I painted Mt. Hood with a field of lavender which my sister says is one of my best, and I'd have to say part of that is because each color is the best of the 4. (I bought 2 of your palettes which haven't arrived yet.)

OMGOODNESS Kristy, i just got a fantastic idea about how to help me learn composition...helpfully this doesn't count as copying...! If it does then at least it's good practice! 🥁 I can screenshot this orange painting of yours and in place of the oranges I can paint flowers in the same sizes as the different size oranges and so on for the leaves with my favorite color palette choices and background ect. This way I can still create something that is all mine and al while learning composition!!! What do you think? And would I still be a copycat? ❤ You just make me fall more and more in love with this watercolor journey 💕 thank you so much!

Hi friend! Right now I have WN and DS paints. I was thinking about getting a few tubes from other companies that I've never used before to see if I like them. As you know, there are a couple of companies that their paints evidently don't ever harden completely. Is there any reason not to mix those paints with the paints I already have, since they must be very different formulas? I hope that makes sense. Thank you for another helpful video!
