One tip I learned the hard way. If you aren't animating on a layer, lock it. In fact, lock all layers except the one you are working on. And, if you want even more clarity. Bring down opacity on all layers you aren't working on. I cannot say how many times I have strayed from those rules and found out I've been inking on the sketch layer, forcing me to redraw perfectly good work.

Is Krita suited for making full animations with characters, backgrounds and scenes etc? Or is it better to just use for short looping animations?
@Gdquest7 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely. It might render a bit slow if you use many animation layers on a large document, but the developers are currently exploring ways to improve the performances. It does feature a fast preview engine so it works quite well, you should try it out.

@TushantMirchandani7 жыл бұрын
While exporting, it should ask you the location of FFMPEG to convert PNG sequences to video. If you don't have FFMPEG (usually because you're using Windows or something) then you can just export to PNG sequences and compile them in Blender, then export them to video. What OS are you using?

There is lot of information there. I appreciate the video, visually showing stuff, but I would appreciate a companion article showing shortcuts, etc., where we can read at our rhythm, and experiment with Krita open, for better memorization.

I'd love to be able to do that to, but with the current workload I have, it's not an option. Especially as I'm covering animation only for you guys - it wasn't meant to be part of the Krita series initially.
@PhilippeLhoste8 жыл бұрын
I understand, a real article with screenshots is lot of work. I was hoping you had a script that you read when doing your video, what you can publish somewhere, that would complement the video. If you don't have such script, that would be a transcription which is also time consuming. I suppose I have to run the video and take notes, then. :-) Anyway, always thanks for all your work and clear explanations.

so we can't animate with vector layers?
@ecv806 жыл бұрын
Hi, although I appreciate the tutorial I find a problem in that I personally just can't follow through because of a lack of a goal thus I can't keep my focus for long. It feels more like a compendium of features or what you can do, than like a guide on how you can achieve something. Analogy: you're telling how we can lay cement on a brick, that we can extend it this or that way or we can lay it on top of another brick, but you're not telling how to build a wall and what's the usual or better way of putting the next brick on the last one. There's nothing wrong with your way of teaching, but IMHO people learn better from example. It's a bit like traditional teaching, where one's being given a lot of information, but without a purpose, soon one starts feeling it's pointless and loses interest. I would advise to first gather all features you'd like to teach, then figure out small examples where each could be applied, to finally figure out a greater goal which all those examples would lead to. I think this would keep your audience attention higher. Anyways, thank you.

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I'm evolving towards this now, although it depends a lot on every project's budget. For the Krita series, I produced a lot of content at a loss. Note this is all part of a series so you have this video for animators who want to get started on Krita (and don't need examples, they know better) and you should have an animation tutorial too with an example -> kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoW2lnWLfdubn9k

@Gdquest8 жыл бұрын
No, there's no way to transform a whole animation right now. But that's something that you won't need, as you gain experience. Also, eventually there'll be support for animated layer transforms, using the new graph editor. So if that's what you're looking for, you'll have to wait for a little while.
@Awe50meandhumble8 жыл бұрын
GDquest Something like that would be essential for dynamic camera work.What a strange feature to omit. Thanks for the response.

It's not omitted - there are just tons of feature requests and only so much the team can do. Again, tweening is coming for transform masks eventually, but it's not a small task.

Let's say I created my drawing in Krita and created layers and groups for each individual component of my drawing (hand, forearm, bicep, etc all in their own layer/group). I see that in your layer tab you only have two layers in a group. How should I save my drawings to allow me to make animations like this? Because as of now I open the animation workspace and try to create a new layer in the timeline with my maingroup (which has all of my components together in one layer group). However, when I try to move the pieces around it either selects empty space or, if I select the component layer from the Layer Tab it tries to create an entirely new layer in my timeline. Regardless when I make one change to a keyframe it applies to all key frames? I'm sorry if this is complicated. Just not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong because I thought I had it somewhat figured out Do I need to pose the drawing and save each frame as a .png and then import those? If I'm animating for a game and I intend to change outfits without having to redo the animation is that possible like that?
@Gdquest6 жыл бұрын
Nat Versluys no but Krita isn't a cut out animation program so you can't do this easily. It's designed for traditional animation. You'll want to use something else, like Blender, to animate the parts you drew on Krita.

@Gdquest7 жыл бұрын
A frame is a tiny chunk of time, the base time unit in animation. I.e. 12 frames/second means you will have up to 12 different drawings per second (a drawing can stay for several frames). Key frames (often written keyframes) are frames on which a new drawing appears in traditional animation. If you add tweening, that is to say computer-calculated motion, keyframes are frames on which you give the computer values to transition to. And that's available in Krita too, although only in a basic form for now (to animate a layer's opacity).
