Love your comparisons between the KRK's. Gosh...Just upgraded from my beloved G3's to the G4's for singing and voice over work. While both had their definite strong attributes, keeping my G4's, but going back to repurchase the G3's. Awesome clarity on both monitors. But sometimes you don't know what your missing until you don't have it anymore. That is definitely the case here. The KRK Rokit RP5G3's "REALLY" have got it going on here! Thank you for your wonderful video monitor series.

Can you please say exactly what you were missing in G4 from G3? 🙏
@ernestthompson8914 жыл бұрын
Daraya Vahu - The KRK G3’s have a noticeable “detail clarity” when listening to recorded playback material with both singing and the spoken word (voice over). Recording engineers l have worked along side with use the term “sonic detail”. While not a pro engineer myself, (just talent with a good set of tuned ears)There is an additional hint of noticeable clarity with the G3’s that the G4’s are missing. I do own both again and use them extensively with my work. Great set of studio monitors in either case. Hope this helps you with your own discoveries. :)
@ernestthompson8914 жыл бұрын
Leopardipzg - you are absolutely correct in utilizing a "separate" DSP EQ unit. I was a bit surprised at the time with the G4’s missing that “detail clarity”, being the next upgraded, brand new, right out of the box. The built in digital DSP Room EQ on the rear of these monitors does a good job for overall room adjustments to even out the environmental frequency response, but not to that missing clarity I spoke of. Great set of monitors in either case. I do have both again.
@SUNSETAVENUE-vs5io5 жыл бұрын
The G4s are closer to the original mix of the tracks (what you need to hear) but the G3s on the other hand may sound great but misrepresent what your mix actually sounds like so I would go with the G4s instead

EDIT: While I haven't tried a G4 in person, I still trust the G3 no matter how many criticisms it went through. I've used one in an untreated space, one in a local recording studio in our town, and one in a mall store. I like my experience with them. The G3 sounds tame to me. Drum cymbals, synths, vocals, strings, name it! And not forgetting the bass. In other monitors, I am guessing. With this one, I know it's "bass" and I think that's where their strength and identity is. There's something you can't describe that keeps you want to go back to them. Before anything else and before anyone else bash me here, mind you... I own a pair of Yamaha HS5 and a pair of 1970's Auratone first. I was also exposed to 8' Genelecs from an international news tv station where I worked previously for 3 years (plus a bunch of Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones), a bunch of Diatones DS32Bs, Focals, Krk VXT and PreSonus Eris in my friend's home studio as well. In those years, I developed the sound I have in mind that I'm looking for. And I'll personally choose them. So yeah, will definitely head to the store soon and gonna buy me a pair of G3. Trust me, the G3s sound a lot more tamed in real life than what's in this video. Darker in tone but not that dull and lifeless as others CLAIM and COMPLAIN about. Treat your rooms first the best way you can. You don't have to reach the multi-million level studio standard. You don't even have to spend tooooo much on Sonarworks (though it's helpful). Just a room that can help you monitor your mixes without distraction, straining your ears and giving you false information because of reflections and bass buildups especially when working longer. Ps. This is just me and this is my personal choice. And no regrets in that. KRK G3 see you soon in my studio! Here's just some final guide to help you decide on a monitor: Do you nod your head while mixing? Does your mix translate and it sound ok in your car? Do people like it and do they dance to your mix? Does it sound good on the radio? If yes, congratulations and go for it! If nobody's complaining about your bass in the mix, congratulations again! Lastly, if your circle of audio engineer friends didn't persecute you nor discriminated you for the choice of speakers you bought, they're a keeper! And if you earn and make money from it (mixing through 'insert ____ brand model ___')? Even better! Are you happy at first listen the moment it's played to you in the store??? You're the only one who can answer that. ------ Ps. again. Somebody replied to me saying "others sound lifeless." I didn't write that. I didn't mean and didn't say that other monitors sound lifeless. What I said, in context, some users complain about the sound of the G3s dull and lifeless. On the other hand, others will say it's full of bass but the highs cannot compensate for it, leaving it sounding like it's covered with a blanket. Sorry if my original statement left you confused. The edited ones are in all caps.

Remember, if you're mixing, your mix will sound like the inverse of your monitors. Mixing with the G3s and their hyped highs can result in your mix ending up dull in the high end for compensating. Using the flatter, less pretty sounding G4s will most likely yield a prettier mix result

From the frequency chart, the bass is basically identical but I didn't expect there to be as much difference in the treble. Sadly, it's hard to get an accurate listen when there's a recorder, microphone, and different set of monitors in between the subjects here and the listeners in front of their computers. The only thing I could tell for sure here is that there was less bass response between the original track and hearing it through the KRKs, the microphone, recorder, and my own monitors at home.
@ironandzinc2 жыл бұрын
Monitor speakers need to have less bass because you need to hear clarity of every single sound in the mix.
@MotoMarios2 жыл бұрын
The microphones in the recordings of DSAudio do not transfer the bass response properly . I've just purchased a pair of KRK Classic 5s and the bass is very-very strong. Listening to the video through my Sennheiser 560s is proof of that as they are headphones with accentuated bass response and go as low as 25Hz, - the microphones can just not do justice to the bass of the speakers. Just use the videos as a comparative gauge and try to listen to a few of those compared in real life. Only then will you be able to judge how a set of speakers really sound like.
@konradduzniewski79094 жыл бұрын
I see some people completely don't know how monitor speakers work. These speakers have to sound as close as it is possible to the original track, not to have cleaner high freq. or more punchy bass... It can't boost or enhance any of the freq. band. It has to sound as flat as it's possible.
@PetrFink4 жыл бұрын
this is just NOT true. Because there is a ear fatique, speed of transients etc. If you mix on 100% flat monitors, you always push your limitis.. (let's say, you prefer very open top end) ... so it is very sharp in real life then. Otherwise .... if you buy more "open" monitors, you have more control over your mix.. and you don't push your mix to much. Etc. what more on monitors with more open top end, you can mix on low volume. There are many factors, what is important for using proper monitors. Each producer is used to his monitors, because his ears are used to that sound. etc. Like someone likes ribbon tweeters .. which are mellow, but fast, someone uses very very agressive NS10s .. which are very "middy" and harsh.
@konradduzniewski79094 жыл бұрын
@@PetrFink You forgot about the fact, that you HAVE TO learn the sound of your monitors to make a proper mix especially in comparison to the reference.
@PetrFink4 жыл бұрын
@@konradduzniewski7909 I am saying exactly the same as you now ;))) But nobody's ear is the same, nobody's approach to mix is the same. Everyone has its ego. Someone like to mix on harsh ns10's they are revealing any issue in your mix.. .but they are not flat at all... or someone likes the ribbons, which are very gentle. Someone likes it superflat. (which is not possible in real life) ... everybody has it preference. So it is not right so say, everyone has to listen to superflat monitors, which are the closest to what is going on your mix. In ideal, mathematical world yes. But we are far away from ideal world, esp. when there are preferences in listening, different rooms, ears, etc
@konradduzniewski79094 жыл бұрын
@@PetrFink No, you are sayin' - "everyone has its ego", Ok. Everyone has another ear faitgue, Ok again. Perfect monitors don't exist. Ok for the last time, but by some strange coincidence every concern that produces these monitors strives for the flattest freq. curve as it's possible. Talking, that this or that model is harsh or warm or etc. isn't a sensible argument at all, because any of these concerns won't declare that they coloured some freq band because it was an intended effect, because that's completely not what monitors are about, engineers design monitors to sound neutral and flat. Another thing is how they really sound.
@PetrFink4 жыл бұрын
@@konradduzniewski7909 again, not true. I am not arguing that they shouldn't sound flat in perfect world. You said in the first reaction, that is SHOULD be as close to original track. I am only saying not in world of monitors, because like NS10s were far away from being "flat" and they was used because its ability to reveal mess in the mix (and they are still widelly used and the new HS8 sound very similar to them, they exaggerate so much. It is far away from reality and being flat (watch its curve), but still one of most used middleclass monitors these days. That is the point. Have a great day

G4's are a Kuch nicer speaker, the G3 sounds like someone stuck an EQ in front to scoop out the mids.

All the serious musicians and engineers can hear the difference that G4 is closer to the original track than G3. Well, G3 I can only say is great for production.

I owned the Rokit Gen 3, (5s & 8s) they were great all round speakers that I personally used for watching films, DJing etc .I found though that for mixing the bass was to heavy so ended up getting the Yamaha HS7 . This video is proof that KRK listen to feedback as these gen 4s are Flat, the mids & highs seem far more precise . Just my opinion but the gen 4s hit the spot for monitoring at this price point and beyond.

I wouldn't agree. They boosted in the Fletcher-Munson's range at the cost of the 5-6 KHz which is now plunged down. As a result, lack of clearance and a bit of a telephone effect compared to the G3. Listen to this test using some good monitoring headphones or in an acoustically treated room, not in a regular living room.

I have G3 and from what I have heard here.........I'll keep them. Simplicity of back panel controls is great. When mixing, bass needs to be dialed back to -2dB and than I get balanced and very detailed picture. If using just for listening......well than the Bass and Treble settings are matter of personal taste. But simpicity and efectiveness of analog dial is great in any case. P.S Never liked Kevlar and similar experiments. Affects the sound too much.
@ChrisBessy2 жыл бұрын
I use RP5 G3 too ..... but I want a sound a little more flat. I use bass -2dB and my mix are good, but not perfect. Often too much bassline and not enough mids. Maybe the G4 are better ? i dont know.........
@zeljkozuber66292 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisBessy There is no such a thing as "too much bassline" . Usualy the problem is lack of it ......except in US contemporary Jazz production, they do the mix right.

I thought about upgrading to G4 but it sounds like it would be a big downgrade, seams the money went to the unnecessary gimmicks instead of improving sound. The G4 just sound messy in comparison to G3 witch sounds tight, and I'm not talking about the low or high end you got to calibrate them with sonarworks reference anyway, the G4 made the mix and master seem just wrong. I don't know what to think, could they make the new generation worse for the sake of unnecessary but marketable gimmicks? The LCD and the presets might look like something to noobs but anyone that will be using them as monitors not just speakers knows that those are lame and there is proper software. Why they bring back the G3 and are calling it classic, there need to be comparison exactly like that but with a third set of high-end monitors.
@DarayaVahu4 жыл бұрын
so I listened a couple more times and on headphones and G3 sound closer to original, G4 sound like the tracks were not mastered and poorly mixed, on G3 vocals and each instrument sound separate like each have their own driver on G4 it's like smushed together, the percussion on G3 sounds like the kick and toms are hit harder, it doesn't sound boomy but tight and accurate like real percussion kit. I wanted to upgrade, I wanted even more tight and precise sound but the G4 gone in the opposite direction, but how? Since they supposedly so much better engineered and better materials, and how KRK spokesperson described the improvement I actually hear exactly the opposite in this video. And I also read that they hiss a lot more and I already can't stand the hiss in my G3, the biggest reason I'm looking for an upgrade because how the G3 amp is inefficient and work like room heater, in winter in my room I actually don't need to turn on the heater but in other months it's unbearable and I have to have a fan on.
