Just discovered the Corries, my life much richer for it. Telling all my friends about them. Their music goes through me directly to my heart and soul.

As a New Zealander that my Scots family came here over the 30s and 50s, I was born in NZ although conceived in Canada but things didn't work out so my parents chose to come to NZ to be with my Mums parents and her sisters in 1960. I became aware of the Corries in the late 60s, not sure why other posters don't have a clue until quite recently. Amazes me. How Scots are ya ?

Bloody hell. Remember having to stop up late (9.30 pm ish?) to watch this being screened - was my first week at work at Ravenscraig Steelworks and remember it well . Was shocked to hear of Roys death - having seen them live a few times they were second to none. Keith - many many thanks for posting - I know I still have this on VHS tape, but would be too scared to play it!

I wonder if Roy ever dreamed when he wrote Flower of Scotland that it would become the huge anthem it is ttoday.
@nakima6111 ай бұрын
After seeing this video of Roy & Ronnie singing Flower of Scotland, Roy looks about 30 years old, so 55 years ago this was filmed. Ronnie and the rest of us all hope that it becomes the anthem for Scotland, perhaps the National Anthem!
@kevinnimmo6458 ай бұрын
It IS the national anthem of Scotland. Unofficial or not. Always will be in my eyes anyways. I'm sure there are plenty who see it as such also 😊❤🏴🏴🏴

Maybe the best ever version of Flower of Scotland. I just wonder.... 1968... the Beatles had introduced Indian music into western "rock and pop" music. There's no escaping the sitar-like runs all through this fantastic version of the Corries' fantastic song.

Yeah, it's got a dodgy soundtrack too. Old recording quality I'm afraid. Still, you get the drift. Great duo and best regards to you Lidia, from the land of the wild haggis. 🙃
@Arkybark Жыл бұрын
It's not ONE soundtrack. It's a compilation of videos from many places on KZbin. If the sound isn't good on one, you can search elsewhere. Some people who posted the videos cleaned up the old recordings.

I was fortunate enough in either late 1963 or early 1964 to attend a hootenanny (as was wont) at the Waverley Town Hall in Edinburgh, where I first heard the Corrie Folk Trio and Paddie Bell (bless her) and Roy Williamson first performed the Flower of Scotland.. Loved it then.. Not so sure now..that it's become the national anthem.

Does anyone know where the locations that appear in the video are? thank you very much, the Corries are unique, they touch the heart.
@Arkybark Жыл бұрын
There are a number of different locations. The Flower of Scotland video (the very first, for TV) was filmed at Ruthven Barracks. The North Sea Shoals video was obviously put together from random film clips that didn't involved The Corries. Most of the scenes from the 1987 A Vision of the Corries TV series were filmed in a BBC studio. A few of them may have been done on location, at Loch Tay or Glencoe, but the BBC cinematography is so good that it's hard to tell. Ronnie's son Gavin, who runs the Corries website can answer such questions.

If I recall right, Ronnie went to Spain and studied guitar there, and returned to Scotland and used a lot of the techniques he learned in his music. I think it adds such a lovely and unique depth to his technique.
