Actually part of why Soundgarden broke up was because they weren't getting along because Cornell was a bit controlling when it came to the artistic direction he wanted to pull the band in. That's why if you look at "Down on the Upside" there is metal, rock, soft rock, punk and even some psychedelic songs like applebite. Really interesting album but at the time, I was too young to really appreciate most of it (14 years old or so)

I will never forget the day or where I was when I was introduced to Chris Cornell. I still do not know how I had never heard of them.The whole band is great, but from the moment I heard those words. And the lyrics. I thought he was an Angel.I never got to see them in concert. But I carry that man with me every day of my life. I will always love him.

Soundgarden crafted one masterpiece after another beginning with Nothing To Say through the Louder Than Love era straight through Badmotorfinger (Slaves And Bulldozers was the hidden treasure) and Superunknown (Drown Me In You and Limo Wreck) then Down On The Upside (flawlessly crafted but Pretty Noose, Burden In My Hand and Blow Up The Outside World are the crown jewels with She Likes Surprises on the vinyl version of A Sides as the perfect bookend to the Nothing To Say era genesis of Soundgarden). There was never anyone like Chris Cornell. There will never be another one like him. We miss you Chris.

My older sister passed away June 2018, and she has Fell on Black Days tattooed on her arm. I always thought it was odd her and Chris passed away within almost a year of one another. She loved his music, and turned it on to me and my younger sister growing up. I have her and my parents to thank for our good taste in music. We were all so close, and his music (along with a few others) will always be something that we hold dear to us. Rest easy Chris, and my sweet sister, Jesse.

Chris is another one of those people who I regret not taking more interest in when they were still alive. I was a massive Soundgarden fan when I was a kid growing up in the 90’s, but for some strange reason, and despite loving the music, I always had him down as some kind of pretentious rock star who took himself way too seriously, or something like that. And when Soundgarden reformed in 2010, I had long moved on to other things and didn’t pay much attention. I’d already decided that their best days were probably behind them and didn’t even bother to give the new album a proper listen through. It was only after revisiting Soundgarden and Chris’ other solo projects that I realized how badly I had misjudged him, and what a unique character he was in the world of Rock music. Totally down to earth, humble, and disarming. He gives direct and honest answers to every question and doesn’t for a moment get caught in the trap of buying into his own hype. When you factor in the raw, innate talent for singing and songwriting, he represented a very rare combination of qualities.

@@imandan1966 It's not necessary to discredit one artist just to prove that another artist is great. Chris and Freddie are both pure legends. If you like the opera rock style you might prefer Freddie over Chris, if you're looking for a heavier style but also for pure emotion you will probably lean towards Chris. Myles Kennedy is one of the greatest rock artists of our time. I've seen him live a couple of times and even met him shortly (most gentle guy), it's nothing but ridiculous to call him an average guitar player. In fact, his skills are quite close to Tremonti's ... and Tremonti's skills are insane. When Kennedy and Tremonti do their guitar solo battles, Kennedy's ideas are often more to my taste while both show absolutely perfect techniques.

The problem with soundgarden was that they were always too cerebral for their genre. Vedder was good at moaning and groaning, Kurt was a master of self deprivation and metaphorical irony, Layne and Jerry were dark as fuck, but then there's Chris. He was simultaneously none of those, but above it. He was a 70s rock singer with an excellent vocabulary and above average intelligence. It's volatile, even listening to him speak.

I have to add my name to the list of those who regret missing out. What stings even more is im in Michigan and we all know his last show, and last night on earth was in Detroit. I had a chance to go, my co-worker went, and I had always respected soundgarden and thought they would be a killer show. I wonder if more of us 'fan's bought tickets to every tour, he would have been less depressed? I couldn't help but feel like playing smaller, crappy venus in Detroit must have been hard after playing arenas in the 90s and being so huge. Maybe he felt like he had peaked, been there/done that, and got too bored. Looking out at a crowd of aging 90s kids in dirty dingy venues took it's toll

Brings me to tears seeing one of the greatest of all time and still feeling like he was murdered and didn’t commit suicide. I met Chris in 2007. We shared a great hug and I thanked him sincerely for all of the amazing music. He was a gentleman, he was tall and illustrious and a beautiful man. His appreciation for me as a dude that was in total fanboy mode was endearing. Even though I felt silly for geeking out so hard , he didn’t make it awkward. He was an absolute gem. I still miss his musical presence every day and he is still one of my biggest influences in rock! We love you Chris. Your mark still leaves its’ indelible stamp on all of us true fans of Rock-N-Roll. There were only 3 songs on Superunknown that never got radio play and there are 15 songs total on that album. it is one of the most played albums in history by trackplay standards. It was in the top 5 of major charts for 7 different countries 3 of them hitting number 1. 3XPlatinum in Canada and 5xPlatinum in the US. 9+million albums sold worldwide. Vitalogy had more success overseas on charts, but with smaller sales numbers, it only hit 76 on the Billboard 200 where Superunknown hit #1. It also sold less worldwide though sold similarly in volume in the US. InUtero did about the same chart wise, but only sold about 6+million worldwide and had only 3 songs hit radio and only 3 released as major singles (which 2 were on the same single). Nevermind however sold 15+mil with 5 singles and 11 top 5 charts worldwide with 4 #1's. Pearl Jam's Ten sold 15+mil worldwide and only hit number 1 on Poland and internet charts only reaching number 2 on the US200, but really didn't have great charting. Charting = Critic and mainstream acceptance whilst sales = How many people actually cared to buy it. Had Soundgarden released more than 5 singles (like a single for each song that got radio play in it's popular market, they would have sold another couple million probably.Sales aren't in yet for their 20th Anniversary release, but I suspect they will sell quite a bit more in the next 2 years considering Chris Cornell's recent recording associations in the mainstream. It's in my list of top 10 albums of all time. Superunknown is a favorite of mine over Ten and Nevermind, that said, not just because of their popularity, they are all 3 albums you can put on and let repeat over and over without getting tired of. That's when you know an album is a classic and near perfect, because people will listen to the whole story from start to finish. Not many albums are released these days like that and most young people don't understand what that experience is like with all the singles only released and bite sized attention spans.

His murder just happened. He was onto the child sex trafficking and the private island where they were being held, used, and abused. The people who run that are very powerful and influential and couldn't allow him to expose them. Chris had an organization (nonprofit?) that's purpose is to expose that and enable the authorities to prosecute the people who are involved. After his alleged suicide, he was examined and found to have 9 broken ribs and you don't get that many from a passive hanging. I mean that when you take enough of something to make you pass out and have something around your neck that will not let you go totally limp into a horizontal laying-flat-on-the-floor position. He didn't even have enough Ativan in his system to make him pass out to begin with. There are a number of other clues to go against him committing suicide but he was quickly rushed to be cremated so that no more evidence could get discovered. The evidence that has leaked out will eventually get some of the people involved but not all of them. Sadly, such talent and grace was silenced much too early.

What a great artist he was! I grew up during the 90s and it was such an incredible time for music. I found louder than love on a flea marked and then I was hooked on SG. During the 90s you could find new records that were great on a weekly basis, not just rock either. It was such an inspirational time.

A funny memory when I think of Superunknown is of this creep that worked with me at the time. I'd listen to a rock station every day and Black Hole Sun was playing. The guy comes walking by and goes "PFFT! I hate that shit. Soundgarden and Pearl Jam BOTH suck!". Fast forward a few days later>>> Hunger Strike is playing and the same idiot says "Man, I love that Temple Of The Dog, Great band!". So I look at him wondering if he's joking or not. I ask just to make sure 'You say that you hate Soundgarden and Pearl Jam but yet you like Temple Of The Dog'. He looks confused and says "Yeah, Why?" “Superunknown” is a masterpiece! I get it!!! You’ll in no way, shape or form get an argument out of me BUT has no one heard “Badmotorfinger”? It was a monster!!!! The top tracks from Bad.... stand up with the very best from Super....! And, why doesn’t “Down On The Upside” get more love? It’s an absolute gem, in my opinion. I think, and have been proven right, that in retrospect Soundgarden is one of the very best and most important Rock bands of the last four plus decades. Rest In Peace, Chris! Sing for the King!!!

he was doing SO WELL, and busy creating SO much, there was so much more to Come..he has a collection of songs probably more than Prince...he simply would give them away..he knew he would be missed so much, i cant be selfish and say how my heart and my son's hearts are broken- i did everything i could to raise my kids on his music and take them to see him life. It's hard for kids to reconcile why their icons would give Up and leave us all..it triggers depression and i worry ...his own Son, his girls ...left behind. are goig to be so confused for so long..my heart is with Chris Jr
