From the string of updates from patreon, it's clear that this is one of the most densely edited projects you've had yet, and that's saying something! I think this episode rivals some of your Splatterface episodes. I'm sad that it takes so much effort to put this together, because I'm itching to know whether Borhok finds that void crystal, or if Clumb Sleety leads a monster on a Scooby-doo-esque ring-around-the-rosie chase, or if the Gnollem can be coaxed into the moat, or whether all of it just falls apart in a random catastrophe! Delve, Rise and Umbra are all great. Definitely recommend giving them a go. I do change a few rules though, as is encouraged in the rulebook; namely, no natural formations on level one, and no remnants till level five. It gives you more time to build up resources, but it also means that when you do get down there, it's much more dangerous. Also, I don't tend to count fortress-ending cards if I'm less than 20 turns in; I'll give myself some sort of penalty, but otherwise I've found you can lose games very quickly, and that's not as fun for me. You can also roll a D4 each cavern you expose, to make larger, more random layouts. Can be fun! I never counted draining the actual lake as a cost, by the way, but that's the great thing about the game; you can interpret it and play it as you like. Good fun, and good to draw!
@Cooltuber4532 жыл бұрын
Reimagining game-over events for the first dozen or so turns is a great piece of advice, as the game is very volatile early on. In my current UMBRA game, I pulled an alien attack on turn 8. 50 STR and Ranged. My marines killed most of the attackers, but were wiped out... and I continued the colony from the perspective of the aliens that occupied it.

Fun Delve semi-story from me: so, some of the "roll d4 for size of room" things can have monsters in them. I also make these caverns randomly shaped, so a lot of them go down a space or two (thank goodness for drawbridges). However, monster strength is determined by DEPTH, so I determine the strength of it by the lowest point of the cave and put it there. Luckily a good number of them either can't fly or aren't immediately hostile, so it usually turns out all right when I do this.

I picked up delve myself after your first video, ended up with a pretty prosperous city that raked in enough resources each turn from crystal caves, underground forests, and prisons to pay for an invention out if an ancient lab we dug up. Had a huge force of gunners and subterranean beasts to defend the place too. Only thing was I didn't know if you had to shuffle the deck between each draw or run through the whole thing then shuffle. Ended up doing the latter, and with a power that let me draw twice and pick the result on an exploration that meant I could handily avoid most dangers. Still had huge ancient vampire fortress with a gate to hell inside of it that we locked away behind a secret door though.

@timo15882 ай бұрын
There's definitely a typo in "full prison's granting +20 trade resources", it's just way too OP so I always play it with +2 instead, Also with drawbridges, I play that if you close the drawbridge on any monster >50 STR while it's on it, both the monster and the bridge collapse, leaving a one grid high debris pile at the bottom of your pit (excl. lava), clearing debris and resetting the bridge cost 5 and 10 resources respectively, if you don't clear debris regularly, enemies take less fall damage or if the pit has filled up it acts as a bridge in its own right A few other rules that I've come up with are: 1 forge can make max 1 cannon per turn, 1 golem forge can make max 5 golems, A cannon can be set only facing either left or right - means if an enemy gets behind your fortifications its extra bad news; (e.g cannons facing LL cannot shoot at enemies to their right, where in LR only one cannon can shoot to the right, and RR both can shoot to their right) Certain remnants can be cleared to build in that room; clearing a forgotten crypt roll 1d2 - 1 nothing happens, 2 get bad magic; Ranged units need line of sight; this means rooms must not be separated by corridors/stairs but one continuous room; e.g gunners couldn't fire until the last moment in this scenario: G ccc R ccc R (G=gunner,c=corridor,R=room), but can fire two tiles away in this room: G R R Rooms can be combined for 5 resources, no limit per turn I reckon there should be some way to build passive income in the game, like planting farms, that can be like 1d4 roll, 1 = poor harvest, each farm produces 1/2 a resource (rounded down); 2-3 = decent harvest, each farm produces 1 resource; 4 = great harvest, each farm produces 1 and 1/2 resources (rounded down) Anyone have any tips they play with that make the game fun?

Just wondering about your process as both could be enjoyable. Edit: I also just love how you layer artworks over each other and incorporate each for how its presented.

@@kruggsmash I was worried you got sick, or that something bad happened to you! Glad to see that you're doing alright. I wouldn't have had the courage to dive into Dwarf Fortress if I hadn't seen your videos, and Dwarf Fortress is one of my favorite games now! I've even started making mods for it!

Dang I hoped this would get another part. Now we're all invested in this fortress and the story. Just when so many possibilities opened up it had to end! What about the Gnollems?! When will the Crystal Cavern dry up? Will the magma ever get drained? Will we ever know the answer to any of these questions?

I am just as upset as you are. I wish I could swing it, man. Was so excited seeing these things open up while playing but then as time dragged on I had to make the realization that i couldn't keep it up. really stinks, but ah well.

@@kruggsmash I've found it to be a long winded thing. My energy for this game usually comes from seeing Delve or Dwarf Fortress in my notifications or recommended, and I usually do about an average of exploring 5 rooms a sesh. I'd love to see shorter little 10 minute forays into this world you are making, but if its not working, its not working.

Man, what an experience, I wish it last forever lol. As always thank you for your great work Krugg!

I think it came out pretty good too. I do wish I had a way to do it a better way. make the process more efficient or something. I dunno. Well, glad you liked it though! Thanks for watching :)

Good to see you! I had a feeling you were taking some time off, your work is incredible and good rest is needed afterall! Getting soldiers is the top priority, you cant keep exploring (especially downward) when you have little chance in fighting them. Hopefully you get some big loot to reclaim the structures to the left soon!

Brutal start! Way to bounce back! Sad to hear you won't be doing more of these (as a regular series, if I understood you correctly.) But having been Delving myself for a month plus now, a solo Delve can take many many hours of your time just playing it out in your head and fine tuning the sketches as the fortress evolves. I think the successful model for rapid content creation of Delve in this space includes having a large assortment of premade assets already made, but at the cost of fully exploring the creative 'in the moment' fresh squeezed mind juicing as you play model.

Welcome back! I was actually worrying about you... How mental is that? Just shows how much I love your content. You know, whenever I need to escape, your work is my first port of call. Tell me! You got any DF in the works? Would love to see a story-heavy playthrough like Scorchfountain, or the for-fun Short Forts, personally.

All good! Thanks for your concern though. I am getting to work on a df video today- but don't have any great ideas yet lol. Got any ideas?

@@kruggsmash Krugg... I don't know about you... But I see these demons invading our beautiful world with these horrid slade monstrosities and their goblin slaves. Well... I say it's high time for us to return the favour. Let us forsake our petty surface squabbles. The time has come to invade hell. And when we get there, we'll build a goddamn gargantuan tower and give those clowns a taste of dwarven vengeance! ARE YOU WITH ME?

I am really disappointed to see this is the last one! I understand you probably gotta keep the algorithm happy thought heh. Still, hope to some day see a bit more of new silverstone, this was definitely a breath of fresh air and a very fun experience!

Running commentary: Ew, grub piranha. But a neat idea! Sleety's staff changing expressions depending on his own is great. XD "Knollem" lol 26:15 - "My old nemesis... Stairs."

I'm going to buy this game based on what I've seen here. Looks very neat. Reminds me of another game I like to play, also roll and write, called Four Against Darkness. If you haven't played it, you should.

Fantastic video & art as always Krugg! I really like this expansion of your portfolio towards TTRPGs (ok arguably DF could be considered as a TTRPG, but I still love it!). Should nobody have mentioned it yet maybe have a look at Ironsworn (Solo RPG) from Shawn Tomkin. You could try making it like your Murderhall series that fanart gets incorporated

So many drawings!!!! It's aweome. Also, have you ever considered illustrating a card deck? I would definitely buy a card deck that you illustrated.

visual idea if you are going to keep this awesome game: You could have 5 similar pictures for the prison. One with all doors open for when the prison is empty. Than 1/4 doors closed, 1/2 closed, 3/4 closed and all closed to visuallize how filled it is. Its a minor detail but I think it would be very cool
