. Dry farming in fruit Crops:- Dry farming means farming in areas where the annual rainfall is 750 mm or less, there is inadequate irrigation facility and agriculture is dependent on rainfall is called dry farming or dry farming. The dry region in our country is mainly spread over 32 million hectares in various states. In which hot dry regions are located in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Due to extreme environmental constraints in such a region, cultivation of traditional crops is not economically viable. In such a situation, there is ample scope for dry horticulture fruit crops. The environmental conditions of dry region are very harsh for sustainability of plants hence, selection of a plant species for such region is important for growth and production. Arid zone is characterized by extremes of temperature, low and erratic rainfall, high wind velocity, high evapo transpirational losses of water and light sandy soil with very low water holding capacity and poor fertility status. Looking to the very dismal future scenario of water in arid zone, growing of less water-requiring crops with high application efficiency is necessary. Drought-hardy crops especially perennial fruits with deep root systems are capable of surviving extreme radiation and temperatures and provide income security, nutritional security and food security. However, these conditions greatly favor the fruit crops such as jamun, ber, aonla, bael, fig, lasoda, custard apple and tamarind.
