@@christopherrobinson9690 lol. I send customers to my local shop all the time! I'm even repping the local shop deck rn! The way I see it is, the people who shop at zumiez aren't the same people who shop local so they're not *really* stealing customers from them. The people who walk in to zumiez trying to get a board are either beginners/parents with their kid and neither of them know whats up yet, or its someone from a town over who doesn't have a local shop so this is all they have. As the only skater there, Its my job to be an expert and make sure they're getting the right gear. Otherwise they might end up getting venture lows that aren't the right size with 56mm on a board with steep kicks. Thats a weird turning, wheelbitey, ghostpoppy mess! On the low I even be giving away my old gear that I hide in the back for free so Its not about the money for me. I actually don't even get paid that much. My sales record mainly contributes to my productivity stats. Its mainly about having a job where i can apply these skills and knowledge and have fun doing it while helping customers know whats up. I try to be welcoming and informative and not pushy. Admittedly, some of the other employees are all about that $ though. Like all they'll care about is a sale But as an actual skater I try to treat people in the skate community with extra care and get them right because i'll probably run into them at the park lol. btw, I would love to work at local but you know how it is, not enough staff spots to go around.

The weird thing is you hit on a crucial point early on here but don't really think it through. You are going to get used to whatever you skate (within reason). Are Indy's even that good? If you skate any truck and then switch to another, chances are it'll feel weird and not as good; now imagine that everybody hypes this truck as the "best" and you have the same mythology as Indy. I just don't buy it. Buy almost any decent/standard trucks, adjust em, change the bushings, they're going to be fine. I ride plain old Tensor aluminums with some Doh Dohs and I don't know if I'd even trade them for Indy's. I'm totally happy with how I've got them setup/adjusted now.
@SucculentDoorbell3 жыл бұрын
I am so appreciative of your vast skate knowledge Ben. I actually really enjoy Krux for cruiser setups because they feel very wavy in the turn. Indy's turn is surfier and more immediate responding as you've said. Everything you said is actually spot on, wowm.
@znaykaputranda54343 жыл бұрын
I've been riding indy ace and krux for several years on my set up, i don't skate street just bowl and sometimes vert. Krux bushing really really good when you put it on ace because the rebound they have, ace bushing in the other hand for me feels really good on indy. I tried a lot of bushing to make krux k4 turn starting from indy until bones with some of the durometer they have, all of that i used only the cone shape, but recently i bought fullset of globe 9 inch board and have a 6.0 tensor truck with interlock bushing, at first i just want to try it for fun cause that's too soft to put on tensor truck but after i put it on krux, my krux truck just turn really good, it feels turny nearly like indy and more stable than any other truck i've ever ridden, for sure going to buy another set of krux again. But between the k4 and k5 i don't feel any major differetn it's really smilliar actually, it's more of changing the bushing duro and shape to make it feel different and behave different. I change the bushing because i saw your video about bones bushing with krux truck

Ventures feel very nice and stable when rolling but its hard to wiggle out when landing a trick on the ventures bc they dont turn very quickly.

Hey Ben, a couple questions. I saw a video of yours discussing manual balance point but can’t remember which video it was in. If I were trying to increase the balance point for manuals on a setup would I be more concerned with wheelbase or the steepness of the kicks? Also do you do any tricks off your nose rather than your tail? I had a buddy that exclusively skated the nose as the tail. And I normally do front shuvs, front big spins, and hardflips using the nose as the tail. Just wondering if you had any quirks like that in your skating?

It's the wettest time of year for me, just spent an entire week indoors. Looks like it might dry up today. I work from home on computers so not going outside is just super depressing. I tried finding a covered spot, there was a basketball court but it rained so much it flooded out, there was a couple of abandoned buildings that I figured I'd check out. one was down a hill and flooded the other had a leaky roof and everything inside was soaked. I was seriously bummed out with nothing to do but sit inside and play games but that wasn't what I wanted to do or spend my weekends.

I love my Ace's but I swear every single pair has had bushing pinch that left a permanent 'pinch/bite,' mark on them. So, yeah, maybe I will try some Krux bushings and see if that is different. It might just be the washers though?
@johnmurphy42733 жыл бұрын
Trucks are meant to get “marked” up. They should be getting destroyed if you’re riding correctly
@amaximus1673 жыл бұрын
@@johnmurphy4273 I vividly remember explaining that same thing to my stepdad in the 80's when he was beating the crap out of me for 'destroying good equipment,' when he saw me grinding curbs. So, yeah, I know that. What I am talking about is not normal truck wear. I am talking about damage to the stock bushings, and right out of the box on a first mellow session. This is not something I have experienced with my Ventures or Indy's. I have also experimented with replacement bushing in the Ventures and Indy's and have not had this problem with those either. A couple of things, I love my ACE trucks and I actually really like the bushings. This isn't a 'hate on ACE bushings,' rant. Also, I don't tighten them at all, I like them loose and the way they are right out of the box. I own two sets of ACE trucks, a pair of 44's and a pair of 55's. I have had 3 sets of ACE bushings. I got my 44's back in Septmember/October. Installed them, didn't tighten the kingpin at all and took them out to the parking garage across the street to do a few test runs. It was a mellow session of just feeling the turn and carve, couple of ollies and that was it. At multiple points the bushing would pop out of the washer lip and get hung up. It was bad enough that I couldn't get it back in with normal wiggling. I had to loosen the king pin and pop it back in. This also caused a permanent 'pinch,' on the opposite side of the bushing where the washer bit into it. I sent a photo of it to ACE. They said that shouldn't happen and sent me a replacement set of bushings. Same thing happened to those. I got my 55's a couple weeks ago. I didn't get the hang up issue I had with the 44's, but I did get a permanent pinch mark on my bushing from light carving and turning, right out of the box, on the first mellow session. The reason I think it might be the washers is because I had an extra set of Venture washers laying around after putting Bones bushings in the Ventures. The washers have just slightly less aggressive lips than the ACE's washers do. So I swapped them out on the 44's and didn't have another 'bite,' or hang up problem. Once again, I have never had any bushings get pinch damage like this. Cracked and bulging, totally. Maybe it's fine, I don't really know if the damage effects the integrity, but it does seem weird considering I am not pushing the hell out of the trucks on the first couple of rides.
