Hi Phil, I lived in Oxford with my wife for four wonderful years 1999-2004, living in Leckford road while my wife did her PHD. I worked at Lucy's most of that time in the switchgear department. Of course I'd love to go back in time and see what was then there, but I struggle to find much of the old factory. Even wandering around Oxford on Goggle Maps, I notice so much of my previous haunts doesn't exist any longer. So sad. I must say how pleased I am that you are still here. Take care.

I was the Boatmaster on Rosamund The Fair and we did this stretch of the canal when the Thames was too high. Bringing back such good memories. Love it!

best video I've watched today. I know that overgrown trees are bad, but they add a touch of drama and they look sooooooo beautiful, especially weeping willows 💖💖

I just enjoy seeing different parts of the world through video, so now the flavor of the world is narrow boats and locks.

Hi Phil, your vlogs are getting better and better! I think your commentary is adding a lot and I think 20-30 minutes is fine for an interesting vlog :) May I also add my condolences to Obi's family. So sad. I know how it feels :(

Thanks Ronnie, unfortunately these longer videos are quite demanding to produce. This one alone used up over 15% of my monthly internet allowance, and took 3 hours to upload!
@rodb92626 жыл бұрын
I concur regards the longer vlog, will help boost the hours for KZbin. 👍More work for you I know so thanks from another Downunder. The commentary, enough to be informative of where you are and points of interest without over doing it.

Thank you. It's hard to know the ideal length for a video. I myself am usually put off watching videos which are more than 12-14 mins long, due to mobile broadband data limits. But the longer ones will certainly boost watch time.

the sign says that winding hole is up to 52' but I nearly got my 47' boat stuck there, had to get out and finish pulling it it round by rope! Won't be trying that again just to save a few minutes of avoiding Isis lock.
@NarrowboatJourneys6 жыл бұрын
I agree, mine is 48' and it was quite a tight turn. Probably 50' is more like it?

I live in Oxford and never really understand why they have visitor moorings right at the end beyond Isis Lock - as you say not really a good idea to go down there!
@NarrowboatJourneys6 жыл бұрын
I don't know if many boats do venture down there, but they would have to reverse back again.

A good video of the Oxford canal end , i was disappointed at the state of some of those residential moored narrowboats , don't they have to keep them shipshape so to speak , also the overgrown parts of the canal a bit sad , CRT needs to do some work there . Who were all those orange coats crossing the bridge at 11.00 minutes :-)
@NarrowboatJourneys6 жыл бұрын
The orange coats were railway workers. Most of those boats never move at all. I don't see any fun in that.

Great videos. I was wondering how you go about continuous cruising on one canal? As you base yourself in Oxford, do you go between banbury and Oxford? I'd love to live aboard as you do. However I'm not interested in cruising the entire system. I'd prefer to remain on one canal, likely the Oxford as I have friends there. Do the CRT mind if you remain on one canal such as the Oxford? Thanks . Good luck
@NarrowboatJourneys5 жыл бұрын
It's a grey area! CRT choose how they interpret the rules. I never had any trouble from them. The main thing is to keep moving a reasonable distance, and not overstaying.

hi gr8 video as usual looking at all the boats along the canal iknow that crt do very few residential moorings do u think they are turning a blind eye to boaters at the non residential moorings colin

Yes they do, but of course that could change in an instant.

In many of your videos I can see people walking or biking along the path, but they seem faster than your boat... I'm asking because I have no idea of how fast a narrow boat can be
@NarrowboatJourneys4 жыл бұрын
I normally boat along at about 2 miles per hour, so walkers often do overtake me.
