I saw a woodpecker around 2 weeks ago and reached for my phone and as soon as I was tee'd up for the shot, it slid around behind the tree and kept making this manouevre every time I repositioned 😂. A guy came over with a DSLR and suffered the same fate as me, neither of us getting the shot.

The trick with woodpeckers is to find a vertical log, drill holes in the sides, and stuff peanuts or similar into the holes. Then when it comes along to feed it will be well placed for a photo. ;-)

@@NarrowboatJourneys Thanks, great idea, I will try that. Wanted to get a pic to check which woodpecker type it was. Beautiful plumage. It was in my local park and the tree is overhanging a boating lake. The guy with the DSLR was taking pictures of a mandarin duck and hadn't seen the woodpecker just off to his left. Love nature photography, makes us take time for the flora and fauna and all its beauty. Your lifestyle particularly lends itself to such pursuits, you must see some fantastic things along the towpaths and inland waterways of England. I really enjoy your nightcam footage and the studies of your beautiful cats nocturnal activities, the foxes and many other night foragers at work. At the rear of my property, there is a gap in the eaves of the adjacent properties roof which a pair of bats exit from like clockwork at dusk, I bought a night vision scope to watch them and a super heterodyne radio to hear their radar locators and calls. Fascinating the things around us that most people have no knowledge of. Not told the folks out the back about the bats just in case the lady of the house gets spooked and wants them moving even though they are a protected species. They are small pipistrelle bats and their athletic sweeps across the gardens to collect the airborne midges look majestic. They turn on a sixpence to swoop over and over again before spreading farther afield. Thank you for providing such a beautiful channel, your content calms all of my senses at once, cheers.
