Kryptonite Evolution Mini VS Canned Air (ice spray)

We attempt to break a Kryptonite Evolution Mini using canned air. We got it to crack but couldn't make it fail.

Thats a tough lock. You should try that same test with the cheaper Kryptlock Series 2. I notice the end seems to be sealed rather than open like the more expensive Evo mini. Over here the Kryptlock Series 2 is around € 30.00 whereas the Evolution is € 70.00.

"Ice spray" and hammering might do little damage, but they are unfortunately easy to pick.

Ah, I see. No the reason I asked about the Kryptlock test was that I was intrested to see if the double the price difference ( over here ) was reflected in the amount of security between the two. I do notice that the machining quality on the Evo is better than the Kryptlock for example, if you look at the side of the U that actually gets locked you can see that the turning on the Kryptlock is a lot rougher.

Jack Silver It would really depend on the level of bike theft where you are locking up your bike. If protecting against bolt cutter attacks is important then the Evo is much better. While they are both susceptible to force attacks with a pry bar, the Evo is small enough to limit a pry bar from getting in if locked correctly.

Instead of an air can, should try an actual dewar flask of liquid nitrogen. Slowly pour it on the lock and smack immediately when you're done pouring... Would be way more quiet than an angle grinder and hey, trading some nitrogen for a bike can be worth it depending on the bike of course.

Hell that Kryptonite Mini seems to be pretty darn tough to hold up to that abuse, & your average bike thief is not going to take a yr or two making banging noises, & possibly damaging a good alum, steel or carbon framed bike in the process of committing thievery, yes id buy one of those in a min.

+X-15 No, actually bike thieves often don't care about not making noise, especially if your bike is locked in a "secure" underground parking lot. Since that lot is also secured against people disturbing their neighbours with their cars.
