Here's the translation. But before that, I should mention that this should be 15th or 16th March 2005. On 14th March 2005 Zimerman received the honorary title of dr honoris causa of the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music, Katowice, his alma mater. During the following 2 days he held a masterclass for the students of the academy. at 0:23 someone said jokingly: "He's playing nicely!" Sitting in the front row prof. Andrzej Jasiński, the main teacher of K. Zimerman and the jury president of the Chopin Competition in 2000, 2005 and 2010. Next to him is Eugeniusz Knapik. In the second row I can see Wojciech Świtała. Apparently prof. Mieczysław Tomaszewski and Regina Smendzianka were there as well. 0:27 - "This is much better! 0:28 Henryk Mikołaj Górecki in the audience as well, the first and only (until Zimerman) dr honoris causa of the academy in Katowice. 0:31 "If you play phenomenal, no one will be moved. But if you play... [playing false notes], they are delighted!" 0:42 "You know how it is, if you play on the piano which has a short keyboard but you have long fingers, do you know what is happening? 0:49 "If you would have had short fingers and would have been a short Japanese girl, then I would have said everything is fine. But you are a big Japanese girl... this is... this might be a problem.” 0:59 „Take a look, this is a key, the length of the key, here is an axis, right? And this key collapses [maybe drops would be a better word]. So this is pretty much a wheel, right?" 1:10 "And now, we have the drop of the key at 10 millimetres at this spot. But the whole joke is about the fact that we don't play here, but we are playing somewhere here." (at 1:18 the pianist said "Closer") "Yes. And here the drop of the key is only 7 millimetres. So if you have a shorter keyboard, you have a drop of the key at this spot at 10 millimetres. If you straighten your long fingers and play here, here you have only about 5 millimetres... So you play on the piano with short keys... always 2 millimetres too shallow. If you would go to the big piano with a long key, especially with your long fingers and playing very deep into the keyboard, you always hit the spot which is much deeper. And this is where the false notes come from."

@@meisterwue My pleasure. It might sound complicated, translation that it, but it's exactly what Mr Zimerman is saying. I wanted to be as literal as possible, because what he is talking about is quite a complicated matter.

@@Chopin1995 thanks a lot for Your efforts.....Chopin belongs to my first experience in the field of classics quite 50 years ago....I have still my old vinyl , the LPs complete works of Chopin played by Adam Harasiewicz( still alive so far I know) and I had some records of Halina Czerny-Stefanska.....and others. Always welcome.
