I'm in tears... I grew up listening to Zimerman. Best pianist of all time without a question. When I learned about the fact that he literally can take a piano apart, and put it back together, and also the fact that he has 6 pianos, each has its own purpose, I consider him not only as the greatest pianist, but also the "physician" of pianos. May the Lord continue to bless you with health, happiness, music, and joy for many many years dear Krystian Zimerman. The world of piano wouldn't be the same without you.

Now this is absolutely fantastic. The Bernstein/Zimerman recording of Brahms' 2nd piano concerto is probably one of my favourite recordings so far, and from a musician's point of view, their exchange is incredibly valuable. There is so much veracity in both their ways of making music; what a gift it must have been for both of them to know each other. Thank you for uploading this!

It definitely does. I always knew Brahms was a Star Wars fan.

Despite being complimentary I sense in his remarks knowledge of the fact that what he says about Bernstein was counted by some critics as a fault. Zimmerman does not strike me as the kind of musician who appreciated all the hugging B. did at the end of concerts, metaphorically speaking.

@@135Pandemonium His playing is precise, crystalline, and somewhat emotionally detached. Bernstein by contrast had a personality, musical and otherwise, that slobbered.

Zimerman wanted to record all 6 Beethoven concertos with Bernstein and had to do the 1st and 2nd without him after he died. That doesn’t sound like someone critical. Plus he’s become someone who’s made Bernstein’s second symphony something of a trademark. I think there was a lot of admiration between these 2

@@catherinescott562Where on earth does all this rubbish come from Zimerman and Bernstein had great respect for each other and the music they created together was stunning.
