Every single time you get politicians involved in anything; it gets screwed up terribly. Involving slavery, or Indians is ludicrous. This is about the battle that took place at the time nothing more. It's not about anything extended ancient perceived slight. Grow up.

But it's not historic in not being a part of the battle. There is no desecration in having it outside the perimeter. Everything modern should be removed and relocated, except/ impossible huge skyscrapers. Light poles, trash bins ( hidden in bushes) , traffic signs etc.) Turn it back to 1835 .as much as possible. Get every store across the street out of there and maybe a few more

This so pathetic. It’s taking so long. Everyone can agree on a good design that honors a battle crucial to the the independence of the state. Remove the business from the the front of the Alamo down to the river. Remove the street. And create a quiet park of reflection and memorial. We shouldn’t have committee discussing how it’s going honor animals, or LGBTQ, or whatever the cause of the day is. It’s a war memorial and a symbol of state pride. Let’s just make it about that.

I wanted the New York Sept 11 site designed for memorial with a park, water and flowers. But business wanted an ugly corporate building for money. That's sacrilegious to the 2000s who died there

If you're talking about tearing down the Woolworth building, as if there's nothing historic in that, then it doesn't surprise me you awkwardly throw in LGBTQ as some blanket term for all things in the way of your vision of a proper Texas.

San Antonio is thinking small. Until they make a large makeover and get the site closer to resemble 1835 it's a failure. That monument is not historical to that period and moving it to another spot doesnt harm and it can stand just a little off the battlefield. By keeping modern structures in and near , it will never achieve its goal respect and reverence

There’s only so much that you can do when the Alamo sits in the heart of downtown. Consequence of building a city around a battleground.

The Alamo is fine the way it is. The decision was approved to keep the mission church (actually as it it was an unrestored church and what is known as the long barrack, the convento walls knocked down rock taken , the Alamo doors hauled off. Trees were growing inside the barrack/ convention walls. We're lucky that every stone around the battlefield wasn't knocked down and hauled away. Businesses around the Plaza shouldn't bear being chased out. I have a distant cousin buried in the Mission San Antonio de Padua. I hope her remains weren't those exhumed. Records of her are in the Alamo Library.

The story didn't explain the objections to moving the cenotaph. Why was that site chosen in 1936? Does that rationale still hold? Why is the new site so much worse? Are there graves of the heroes in there, or is it just a memorial?

San Antonia is known world wide for what? Without 1836 it would be just another mark on the map and most likely the Alamo itself would have been knocked down decades ago and a night club in its place.

There needs to be a Memorial to the Mexican soldiers who died there defending their country against armed, dangerous illegal aliens from the States. And always remember that the Alamo battle was a GREAT Mexican victory for all time! It nice to see all Texas celebrate a Mexican victory!

@@jonchurch6955 If Santa Anna was humiliated in the war so was Crockett, who surrendered TO THE MEXICANS, ONLY TO BE EXECUTED MOMENTS LATER; and Travis who committed suicide at the north wall when he saw all was lost, and Bowie who was killed under his bed covers. MASSACRE? Look the word up in a dictionary, in no way was the Alamo a massacre for they fought back! As for General Santa Anna, many generals have been defeated in war, read some military history! Your Alamo knowledge is VERY poor and useless to anyone but you.

Who did the Mexicans steal the land from?
@es2056
@es2056 Жыл бұрын
Nice try, but history reveals your ignorance. The defenders of the Alamo were not illegal aliens, they were settlers that had the permission from the Mexican government to occupy land and cultivate it. They paid taxes to the Mexican government and only when they were forced to accept the religious beliefs of the Mexican Theocracy they rebelled. Now, the Mexican Army and the ruthless General Santa Anna (who was an inept despot) came to destroy these rebels and NOT to negotiate. The Mexicans were the aggressors. In the end Santa Anna, being a narcissistic megalomaniac, put the Republic of Mexico at grave risk by personally coming to Texas to command his Army while president of the country. When he lost at San Jacinto and was captured by General Sam Houston he was forced to sign over Texas as part of the terms of his surrender. An idiotic move on his part because he either faced execution or losing a huge portion of his country. I call that a Joe Biden move, he should have stayed in Mexico City.

@@es2056 It was NOT a nice try, but past historical facts & actions. Over 90% of the Almo defenders had only been in Texas for less than six months, yes, they WERE and ARE illegal aliens from the States. Even legal colonists did not pay taxes to the Mexican government as they had agreed to; hence, the conflict. Sure Santa Anna, a very brave, but rash general came to punish the American illegals who came to north Mexico to rob, steal and kill, and history has proven this correct (you do know that Texas is a part of the US, don't you?). Santa did a great job in Texas, he destroyed the American illegals at Goliad, the Alamo, Agua Dulce, etc. Yes, he was defeated at the San Jacinto Massacre, however, don't act like he was the only general in history who ever surrendered after being defeated. At Stalingrad, 20 German generals surrendered in bed sheets, because it was so cold that winter, to the Russians. Did Mexico REALLY lose Texas? There's 40 MILLION Mexican Americans in this country, plus 28 million undocumented ones per your conservative big mouths. Oh well...! and don't ever forget the Alamo, a GREAT Mexican victory for all time!
