Body camera footage released by Houston police on Monday showed off-duty police officers with weapons drawn as they confronted a woman who opened fire at celebrity pastor Joel Osteen’s Houston megachurch earlier this month before she was gunned down.

The TABC guy who was off duty but moonlighting at the church, should have crossed over the hall way to the other side, one of the many times he was in the center of it, giving an area for another officer to advance and shoot from the position he was but the unarmed guy kept getting in the way and I think he was also trying to protect him (unarmed guy) from his own stupidity...he could have been grabbing the child and exiting the building to get him to safety instead of getting into the way! But as a civilian, he (unarmed guy) was thinking like one... or in this case it seemed not thinking at all!

My buddy was a police officer for a couple months, something he always wanted to do. Till he was called to a possible burglary in a warehouse. He was first to arrive and enter through an open door, a claustrophobic, poorly lit ginormous space with stuff hanging everywhere. He walks through, aiming his flashlight, then the burglar starts shooting at him, several times, I mean so close he got hit by bullet fragments. My buddy on the other hand, had no idea where the shots were coming from because of the loud reverberations, he couldn't even see smoke, he just fired wildly in all directions as he ran backwards to the exit. That morning he turned in his resignation, admitting he didn't want to get anyone killed in the future because he's not cut out for this stuff. I think the non-performing officers in this video need to admit the same thing.

He changed hand grips on his firearm on a number of occasions, his palms were very sweaty, his firearm grip was wet from anxiety and fear evidenced in the way he spoke. His firearm became consciously too heavy for him to carry and that's why he rested it in one hand over the side of his leg. In effect, he did NOT want to hold the firearm anymore as carrying it perceptively in his own mind, made him a direct threat to the shooter and get him potentially killed. This unfortunately shows that his lack of/ future skills training, will NOT convert him into a person who will take direct action under threat. Very sad and life threatening for himself and civilians. These types of mental and physical reactions "should" be, to some degree, identified prior to appointment. (Live fire training ?)

​@christucker7279 True but training for this scenario would require you to get bullets shot at you. It's about the training more than an idea. That's why you see the best cops are ex military since they have the most extensive combat training. These women are probably not military trained. Most of their training would consist of unarmed civilian training or drugs or like mental health stuff. SWAT for example gets more weapon training than say officers with drug dogs. So the whole idea of an officer versus reality is a bit different. Many officers never have to use their gun. They just talk to people, question them and try to resolve domestic arguments. To be fair, not every cop is Rambo but fortunately they had one there that day. He took care of the situation and was most likely ex-military. Being a cop isn't all active shooter work. Your point stands, it's their job but the training from officer to officer varies as well.

I work for a cctv/access control contractor. The cameras we install are capable of 4k, however, most clients don't want to shell out the money for the amount of storage they will need to support such a high resolution. 90% of the cameras we install and manage are set to 640x480 (SD) at a the lowest bot rate allowed by the camera to decrease the amount of storage space needed to meet the clients retention minimums (how long they want to hold recordings for). Our biggest client, a 33 billion dollar data center company, deploys cameras at that resolution to cut back on storage costs and then complain about not being able to make out people's faces when investigating incidents... It's not that the cameras aren't capable of high quality image. It's the customer/client not wanting to spend thousands of dollars on storage servers to hold the recorded video.

As a combat veteran I can tell that all of these guys were untrained in urban fighting. There’s virtually no communication happening, and very little movement towards the threat to engage. When they did move it was haphazard, and uncommunicated. What it looked like to me was a handful of regular individuals with guns. As many rounds as there were fired it’s amazing so few were hit. Praise God for that fact. All that said, I get that the situation is very stressful, but that’s all the more reason to train and take it seriously. Much respect to the dude in his Sunday suit going to work.

ACTIVE SHOOTER - NO tactical awareness, NO immediate direct action taken by uniforms to identify, contain and neutralize threat, ONLY ONE (Baldy) contact officer in the hot zone (Brave and Well Done). The uniforms were actively experiencing Memory Distortion in live fire-lack of skills training.MORENO'S sympathetic nervous system chose a flight response, his parasympathetic nervous system caused him to freeze completely. He changed hand grips on his firearm on a number of occasions, his palms were very sweaty, his firearm grip was wet from anxiety and fear evidenced in the way he spoke. His firearm became consciously too heavy for him to carry and that's why he rested it in one hand over the side of his leg. In effect, he did NOT want to hold the firearm anymore as carrying it perceptively in his own mind, made him a direct threat to the shooter and get him potentially killed. This unfortunately shows that his lack of/ future skills training, will NOT convert him into a person who will take direct action under threat. Very sad and life threatening for himself and civilians. These types of mental and physical reactions "should" be, to some degree, identified prior to appointment. (Live fire training ?)

I really do try not to judge the actions of officers in videos like these because I wasn’t there and you might not get the whole context of what’s going on in a video. But damn, as a former police officer, I gotta say that all of the uniformed officers utterly failed at their job. If you’re a first responder and you’re not prepared to run towards the gunfire, then this job is not for you. There’s no shame in it, it’s not for everyone, but you owe it to your fellow officers to make the hard assessment and go find new work.

ACTIVE SHOOTER - NO tactical awareness, NO immediate direct action taken by uniforms to identify, contain and neutralize threat, ONLY ONE (Baldy) contact officer in the hot zone (Brave and Well Done). The uniforms were actively experiencing Memory Distortion in live fire-lack of skills training.MORENO'S sympathetic nervous system chose a flight response, his parasympathetic nervous system caused him to freeze completely. He changed hand grips on his firearm on a number of occasions, his palms were very sweaty, his firearm grip was wet from anxiety and fear evidenced in the way he spoke. His firearm became consciously too heavy for him to carry and that's why he rested it in one hand over the side of his leg. In effect, he did NOT want to hold the firearm anymore as carrying it perceptively in his own mind, made him a direct threat to the shooter and get him potentially killed. This unfortunately shows that his lack of/ future skills training, will NOT convert him into a person who will take direct action under threat. Very sad and life threatening for himself and civilians. These types of mental and physical reactions "should" be, to some degree, identified prior to appointment. (Live fire training ?)

I can't understand the cowardly behavior of the Texas police department !!! I almost feel like I'm watching a replay of the Uvalde School shooting 😮 Props to the church security guards and their training which saved many lives. I'm sorry that the little boy was killed by his own mother. I don't have what it takes to be in a gun battle, therefore I expect police officers who are sworn in by a oath to protect and defend for us civilians.

In the police academy there is active shooter training and the biggest point that they drive into your head is that every second you hesitate to get to the threat, innocent people are dying. These uniformed cops would have let the shooter run around for an hour if it wasn’t for the one man who handled business.

The shooter wasn't running around, and the congregation was evacuated, so the shooter would have had to go outside to run around for an hour to shoot anyone else. The officers contained the threat, until she was stopped. Why do you want police officers to get killed?
