"I first worked with Kyle Kadow and Steven Cleavland on our 'Causeway' video for ZETA ( • ZETA - CAUSEWAY (OFFIC... ), after they randomly reached out to us expressing an interest in developing a video for the single. They created such an incredible visual for us that I suggested we work with them again during TesseracT's 'Sonder' campaign, where they went on to create the video for King ( • TesseracT - King (from... ). Both Kyle and Steven are film makers based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, US and have great working relationships with local actors. Interestingly, both the male lead actors seen in the Causeway video were also featured in TesseracT's King video, as we thought that would be a nice link, plus they are incredible actors. The elder male lead, Timothy Barnes, also features in Limitless.
When it comes to music videos, I have only ever filmed in the UK on single day shoots, which has mostly been down to budget and busy schedules but with 'Limitless' I travelled to Milwaukee to work with Kyle, Steven and a small team for a whole week, filming in several different locations. The scenes in limitless were filmed in a Motel 6 hotel room, a small restaurant called 'Soup Otzies', a laundrette called 'Candy's', the Plymouth Church, a local bar and various car scenes around the local forests and countryside. However, the star of the show has to be the car that I had the pleasure of driving around on the last days shoot - a silver 1988 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo Silver that was kept in stunning condition. Driving it was like stepping back in time and was a real nostalgia kick.
It's so gratifying to have pushed myself as far as I did to create this video, not just in travelling overseas or because of how difficult it was to shoot for hours on end each day, but because I actually had to act out a narrative and if it wasn't for the team surrounding me, I would not have been able to pull this off. The whole idea behind the video surrounds a theme of loneliness and desperation and some scenes, like the ones shot at Plymouth Church, were very moving. Acting is not my forte but I wanted to challenge myself. Kyle and Steven shot and directed the video so well that the end product ties together perfectly in what I view as one of my highest achievements so far.
The original version of the song was written by both Eddie Head (US producer) and myself, then re-written by my Russian producer, Dmitry Stepanov and mastered by Acle Kahney. Both versions are present on the album but I decided to lead with the remix version by Dmitry as I felt it fit perfectly to the narrative of the video. My relationship with Dmitry has been developing ever since a chance meeting in Russia during one of TesseracT's many tours the country. We both share a love for contemporary and progressive, modern rock and pop and are working on future material"
LYRICS
Intoxicated by the silence of your cannons fire
Understand your resignation and your contemptuous choir
Separated by the silence: your stoic pacifier
Endless gazing to discover through the limitless sky
You said, “Goodbye” so long ago
But I can’t remember why that it feels so wrong
You said, “Goodbye” so long ago
But I’ll wash your sins away if you just stay strong
And you say you understand me
Gonna make a man see
Talking to my head now
Nothing to explain
To follow me, it’s easy
Procession of your resignation
Your fallacy sublime
But sweet the tongue of resurrection
The tangled to unwind
You said “Goodbye, I’m letting go”
But I can’t remember why that it feels so wrong
You said “Goodbye” so long ago
But I’ll wash your sins away if you just stay strong
And you say you understand me
Gonna make a man see
Talking to my head now
Nothing to explain
To follow me, it’s easy
Lay down your blade
I’ll swallow mine
And tell no-one
Your perfect lie
You said “Goodbye, I’m letting go”
But I can’t remember why that it feels so wrong
You said “Goodbye” so long ago
But I’ll wash your sins away if you just stay strong
And you say you understand me
Gonna make a man see
Talking to my head now
Nothing to explain
To follow me, it’s easy
