With his personality, I think he would move on but he might not be able to recover. He could be moving on while empty. And I think he didn't want that. When he made the decision to go for Gide, he's already made up his mind to kill even though he wanted to stop in order to write. He lost that something that he found he wanted to do most and lost his children so there's not really a way to go back from there. But you know, in the case that he could survive until current day, if he was able to meet Atsushi, he might regain or find something for himself the way Dazai did.
