Hi Patrick, my girls and I have been following Ksenia Efremova since we saw her and her Mum in "Raising a Champion…". She has grown and demonstrates superb control, excellent foot work and power. She has a bright future. My girls will watch this video this evening before their tennis training.

What’s amazing is how much she wants to win. I watched all her matches in her AO debut and she was practicing with top players like Vekic and beating them. She doesn’t fear playing anyone and you can see she wants it more than everyone else.

Hi Patrick, really enjoy your videos! A question please. Am I wrong to try to keep my 14 year old daughter hitting with a more atp with more topspin/less errors forehand than the WTa flatter one? I understand that the girls can't chase down as many balls maybe as the guys, but still, the high topspin bounce and less errors seem worth it.

I honestly don't see the point of tossing balls with no pace for practice, as the most difficult part of groundstrokes is getting the timing and contact point consistently right. But what do I know?

Backswing on both sides is too long. This becomes a problem as the balls come faster and deeper. Backswing on return of serve is a good deal shorter, and more like what it should be on all the strokes. Those shots, hit against hard serves, are much more effective than her regular ground strokes against hard, deep balls. Best to get rid of technical imperfections now rather than later on. Ask Coco, Iga, etc.
@blakebrothers3984Ай бұрын
Disagree Most of the girls and woman have bigger swings excluding the physical beasts like Sabalenka
@andrewash9318Ай бұрын
@@blakebrothers3984 You're right, most of them do have bigger swings, and this is what explains why most of their forehands break down under pressure. Rybakina has one of the technically best and most reliable forehands in the WTA, and she is not at all a "physical beast." Patrick tries to get his players to prepare early and begin the swing when the ball hits the ground (which goes hand in hand with a shorter backswing), but old habits are hard to break.
@blakebrothers3984Ай бұрын
@@andrewash9318 As long as the preparation is early it doesn’t matter, even in men’s Gonzalez had a big swing compared to Fed however he was rarely late Ha e a look at Emerson Jones Number 1 in the world in Junior girls Big swings but good legs and preparation
@andrewash9318Ай бұрын
@@blakebrothers3984 It is very rare in men’s tennis to see a forehand with such a big backswing, because in most cases they are at such a disadvantage. Gasquet has a big loopy forehand, and that prevented him from achieving the greatness that his backhand could have given him. Not sure what you see in Jones. I watched the AO 24 final highlights, and her forehand was consistently late when challenged.
