All early Soviet capsules had parachutes. Vostok pilots ejected at 7km altitude while the capsule would deploy its own parachutes around 2.5km and descend separately -- the problem was that Vostok's landing was unstable and rough, so it could have injured the cosmonaut. The Voskhod series, for obvious reasons, did not feature the crew ejecting and descended entirely on parachutes with Soyuz-style smooth landing retrorockets.

7:00 I also tried many times to make a foldable solar panel on my space station. And I finally managed to find out how to prevent from glitching. Here is what I found: Attaching more than one pair of solar panel to a robotic part can cause the glitching. And the “solar-arm” on my space station looks like this: Long Beam - Hinge - Short Beam - Short Beam. Each beam has a pair of solar panel attached to it. Sincerely it looks nice and works nice.

You're half right about the parachutes, Matt. The single cosmonaut in a Vostok capsule did indeed bail out after re-entry and prior to touchdown, but the multi-cosmonaut crews of Voskhod landed softly inside the capsule, which had retrorockets mounted on top to slow down before impact. So if that was a single kerbonaut escape pod, the lack of parachutes would be historical, but the multi-seat variant would land with parachutes and rockets.

Actually only the Vostok reentry modules lacked parachutes, they included drogue chutes which slowed down the capsules to acceptable levels however it was not enough to safely land astronauts. Ejector seats would activate and throw the astronauts out of the capsule and then their personal chutes would safely land them. Soyuz reentry modules do include parachutes however.

from what I can remember the capsules did have parachutes because the recovery team pulled out the crew on stretchers so that they wouldn't be injured because of the gravity. also, the capsules came equipped with guns because they landed in the Siberian tundra and the Siberian bears and wolves wouldn't eat the crew if the recovery team couldn't find the capsule on time. and since the tundra is cold the capsule served as a shelter for the crew so they won't get frostbite or hypothermia. but hey I might be wrong correct me if I am. but I do agree that the cerbinauts wold jump out and parachute, heck I think they wouldn't use the capsule and just re-enter themselves and the parachutes would ruin the look of the capsule.

Actually the re-entry module of soviet spacecrafts had one parashute but it wasn't enough for the safe landing, that's why kosmonauts were leaving it to land by themselves
@jef_30064 жыл бұрын
The Russian/Soviets have made exactly 0 reentry modules without parachutes. Vostock (Soviet Mercury) had the Cosmonauts eject and parachute down separately from the capsule, but the capsule also had a parachute so that they could recover data from it. Voskhod (Soviet Gemini) and Soyuz (Soviet Apollo++) both used/use parachutes and small landing retro rockets to bring their crews home safely. The crews remain inside the capsule. This isn't some obscure variant. They've literally not ever made a reentry module that doesn't have a parachute on it.

Imagine if the early sailers knew we had a building floating around in space. Food for thought

I find that when I’m building space stations; I always have to use my imagination to explain why I have so many passenger bays on my space stations.

I have several favorite whiskies/ bourbons. Crown royal is great, nice and smooth and doesn’t burn going down, the peach and caramel variants are delicious too. Buffalo trace is also a very good whiskey. Makers-Mark is great too. And it’s ‘Bur-bon’. Fun fact, if it’s not made in Kentucky it can’t be called bourbon!

On account of your new whiskey discussions, I think you should build a distillery on Dress. I hear real estate is cheap there. Make it known for fantastic Burbon
