I'm really truly amazed. Seriously, I have the urge to go shake my wife awake and make her watch that, then spend an hour explaining why it's so incredible. But sense I want to stay married, I'll just congratulate you on the most amazingly executed mission I've ever seen.

And the award for smallest Eve return lander goes to... Yes, I know he used the jetpack, but that's some amazing engineering. Maybe you should try to make the smallest Eve returner without jetpack. I sure you could pull it off, considering this video.

I have been playing this game for a long time, the most impressive thing I ever did was get to return to Kerbin from the Mün by flying into the sun (back before proper collision meshes)and performing lithocapture at .5c my Kerbal made it... Straight through the planet out the Other side. If only I had been recording. Your perseverance, skill, and careful use of quick saves puts my random luck with the Kraken to shame. You deserve way more recognition for your KSP skills than you are getting
@navyman410 жыл бұрын
REALLY? With that tiny rocket you got OFF Eve? Wow. I almost killed myself (Jeb actually) with my humongous overly engineered rockets. But I got off Eve safely finally. Then returned to Kerbin without refueling. I'm still trying to wrap my mind over how efficient your Eve launch vehicles were.
@TheJamie1099 жыл бұрын
+navyman4 The jetpack alone actually has an impressive amount of delta v. the fact that it costs no mass to bring it down also helps. Though eve is still a great challenge, and even tougher in 1.05 so keep at it :) we all struggle a little.

Can you explain how you calculated the aerobrake so you would land at the same place on eve and how you landed back at KSC? Very impressive!
@Tsevion.710 жыл бұрын
Two things: 1) Aim ahead of where you want to land, as a rule of thumb I try and figure out when I hit the thicker part of the atmosphere (40k on Kerbin, 60k on Eve), and assume I'll go about half the distance it shows from that point on. This usually gets me within about 10-20km of where I want. 2) I Quicksave and Reload... many times making small adjustments to get it closer.
@gianlucabovolenta505011 жыл бұрын
Just a question.. What do you use for recording? :) Very good work however :)
@Tsevion.711 жыл бұрын
I was using XFire (The chat program... it also has pretty good recording), but the files got super large preventing extended recordings. Currently I'm using MSI Afterburner, which does not require an MSI graphics card. The codec it uses leads to high quality files that, while not tiny, are reasonable in size (I think it's about 1GB per 5 minutes). It does put a little purple circle in the top-left corner that's the "I'm recording" marker, but that's hard to notice.

Not bad, but you used up 5-10% more fuel by burning straight up until 10k, and then turning to 45 degrees. Not many people realize how inefficient an ascent path that is. It's mostly for beginners, and you don't really look like a beginner. So, now you know for next time.
@philliptennen761911 жыл бұрын
What would you call an efficient launch profile?
@Razorcane11 жыл бұрын
Dynamic curving. I usually start my gravity turn at around 2-3km. On the same rocket, I saved between 1 and 5% fuel. It's difficult to give an exact number, since manual control means no launch is ever the same.
11 жыл бұрын
Phillip Tennen Perfect gravity turn.
@Razorcane10 жыл бұрын
***** Actually it hasn't been proven. I did the math myself that proved it wrong. I would show it, but I used the old fashioned pencil and paper method. If you want more proof that it's inefficient, look at how we launch our rockets. I know our planet is 10x bigger than Kerbin, but the concept is the same, even if the math produces different results. Optimal gravity turn for Kerbin, without Ferram Aerospace, is 3.5-5km. With Ferram, it's between .5-1.5km.
