note: In my last startship tutorial, I got a few comments wondering why I included stock in the title if DLC's are used. To clarify: I think the generally accepted definition of stock includes DLC's as most KSP youtubers follow that rule for their titles (IE Matt Lowne Stratzenblitz etc...).

Great tutorial, btw use shortcut keys 1, 2, 3 and 4 to change from Place, Translate, Rotate and Re-rooting parts instead of clicking in the top left all the time. Very useful for building vessels with many detailed parts fast and easy

To fill the small gap you can use a small triangle and clip it inside the actual fairing to remove that gap

@@eryllrose9206 DLC’s are extensions for a game, most of the time you have to pay extra for one. DLC’s can be that you have a cool set of cars in your game, a new map, or just a new set of skins. In KSP there are 2 DLC’s: 1: breaking ground: Breaking ground adds surface features, such as vulcanos, rocks, and lava trenches. This dlc also adds pistons hinges and rotators, for example to build: robots, foldable wings, or just landing legs 2. Making history This DLC adds new parts such as 5m fuel tanks, 2m fuel tanks, and parts that are modeled after parts of our history such as the Vostok capsule, the F-1 engine and the R-25 engine. This dlc also adds a mission maker (unless your a console player) For more information check the KZbin channel of KSP

I suggest fitting those reaction wheels in the gap between the fuel tank and the fairing, so we can use the top for some actual payload.

you need to mess with your center of mass and the angle of your fins. If you can't control the fins you should make sure they are unlocked and bound to the correct action group

Very cool design. It took some finiking to get it to work on console but I got the starship so far. It kinda laggy and ksp crashed once from just the starship so we'll see how this goes.

You can place little rcs pods on the nose cone and by the fins. You can use flags for the heat shields. And you can use pistons for the legs.

Every Starship I have made has had a bad yaw problem during the belly flop section of a hop. The rcs tries its hardest but can’t fend it off. Am I doing something wrong or should I just add more thrusters and reaction wheels? Also whenever I do the belly flop from 10km it comes in at 200+ ms, is this because it’s not coming from space or what?

yeah just spam reaction wheels and rcs and the yaw problem usually goes away. The most likely reason you are coming in that fast is bc your flaps are getting pushed up by air, causing them to retract and not produce as much drag. Lowering the damping to zero on the hinges should fix that.

The challenge with the payload is it is very difficult to get the nice looking fairing transition. But if your ok with having big white lines on the starship you should be able to get it to work. It also can be difficult to get a hinge to move such as big thing without kraken attacks

If you are on console press r1 or rb while moving it. It will allow you to move it past the limit but it will move it less. I don't know it on pc but there is an icon on bottom left of the screen witch shows a little joystick there you can find a lot if information about the controls

you can only control one axis per hinge. The only way to do more than just pitch would be to do some super complicated.

You could put hinges on the grid-fins. I've found that controlling the grid-fins never really does much to help control the trajectory so I just did not do it

my starship landing legs cant support its weight, it always explodes no matter how slowly i land. Any tips for this? (Im play in ps4) Im doing a test going up about 40 meters after landing very lightly with just the landing fuel, but the starship keeps jumping and then it explodes and i cant recover :(

maybe you can join all the fuel tanks at the bottom of the starship and put the payload on top, but you’ll have to balance it, otherwise it will be very difficult to land and fly.

You could remove one of the fuel tanks and out and put a payload and piston on it. Then you could extend the piston to push the payload out through the fairing. I think it would work but it would look super dumb

@@Piolet1549 Or just place small cargo bay, scale it by tweakscale, use mod on fairings, place fairings to make nosecone, on the top of nosecone small header tank, and you`ll get a volume for cargo, just open the cargo bay, separate, orient payload, and by starship`s rcs move out the payload.
