Interesting to hear Julian Bliss say that people have cautioned him not to endanger his classical expertise by playing jazz. Benny Goodman, not wanting to rest on his laurels as a jazz/pop star, took lessons from Reginald Kell and others. Once he began recording Mozart, purists insisted that he had lost his "jazz edge".
