For real man, I was passing out in bus stations at 23 these boys were creating shit that blows peoples minds. On a side note, I'd never put Silverchair in the same bracket as Metallica but those lads were 15 when they wrote Frogstomp. Nuts.

Metallica bass player Cliff Burton died on September 27, 1986 when the band's tour bus went off the road, the album was released March 3, 1986. Burton had cited "Orion" as one of his favorite Metallica songs. He had a big part in writing the song (along with James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich), and his performance on the track is regarded as one of the best of his career. The song was played at his funeral on October 7th, 1986. The album Master of Puppets was their 3rd studio album. The part here you got the feels was actually when Cliffs bass solo started. He was such a talent on bass and in his writing that it is hard to imagine what he could have given the music world. He was only 24 yrs old when he died, so the song that you just reacted to was performed by a bunch of guys in their early 20's. Hard to believe that at 24 were on their 3rd studio album, its no wonder why Metallica is still performing today.

The Gods of Mt. Metal needed a bass player. He was too beautiful for this world. This is also the reason Rhoads died (also in an accident involving a tour bus- that's the "tell" that the Gods of Mt. Metal were behind it).

At the same time, I feel like I am revisiting old favorite classics but with a more discerning ear. I just found you today have binged on almost every rock/metal reaction video you've made. I follow three of you that do reaction videos with overlapping songs and it doesn't even matter because you each approach your love of music in a different way. Some haters gonna hate on this, but a lot of the songs on the Loads ( Load and Reload) get pretty bluesy, too. I think both of those albums are way under-rated. They are def a departure, but it shows their diversity and depth, especially in James' writing. You should check them out.

Every time I hear this song I get a bit sad because it reminds me of how good of a base player Cliff Burton was. I still don't know how he makes that droning sound in the beginning and I still haven't heard anyone duplicate it properly. If you like instrumentals, you would really like YYZ by Rush.

I'm a little surprised most of you are saying 'To Live Is To Die" is your favorite Metallica instrumental. I've always thought Orion was the best of the best. I even really love Call of Ktulu, mainly for the exceptional solo, though.

To live is to die is garbage to me, and not too many early metallica songs are bad. To each their own

I LOVE your reactions man! Great to see someone who appreciates great music. I bought this on cassette when it was released in 1986; cutting 3 classes in high school to walk to the local record shop for it. I got detention, but damn it was worth it!! :)

If you love instrumentals, Metallica's "To live is to die " is the answer! It's a tribute from Metallica to Cliff Burton, and it's the last music that Cliff co-wroted before his death.

I played this song for my dad in 86 when I was 15, he listened because I told him it was my favorite song. After it was over he told me he was surprised there were no lyrics. That remark has stuck with me for some reason. It's a damn good song, it expresses something words just can't.

You’re doing what all of us in the Metallica family do when we hear this song. We close our eyes and just allow our minds to go wherever it wants to. You’re talking about what the crowd must do. Watch the video of them playing this in 2006 in Seoul South Korea!! Talk about chills. Robert does a fantastic job on the bass in this one. Enjoy and keep up the awesome job “bruh”!!

I've watched a lot of reactions..I think this one is my favorite so far. Connecting over an instrumental is cool..connecting over Orion is transcendent. Great job man.

Dig your videos man.I think it's awesome how music can bridge gaps and bring people together that might not otherwise. Might send you some suggestions from an old metalhead in South Dakota. 🤘

You are right, Metallica are the gods of Metal. "Fade to Black" is one of their best, overall songs (best in my opinion). Give Bad Brains a listen (album-"Banned in D.C." ). BB are an all Black, Hardcore Punk/Reggae group from D.C. (80's era). They combined musical genres early on and we're one of the best HC groups.

Hi Preston, Just wanted you to know the guitar in the beginning is the bass guitar hooked to a synthesizer, and the first solo at the 2:37 mark is also the bass guitar. If you haven't heard Anesthesia Pulling Teeth yet, check that out. Clifford Lee Burton was a bass guitar god. He died in a bus accident in Copenhagen Denmark while on the Master of Puppets tour in 1986. If you could find videos of Cliff live, I think you'd appreciate it more. At the 10:27 mark on your video is also the bass guitar.
