Metallica bass player Cliff Burton died on September 27, 1986 when the band's tour bus went off the road, the album was released March 3, 1986. Burton had cited "Orion" as one of his favorite Metallica songs. He had a big part in writing the song (along with James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich), and his performance on the track is regarded as one of the best of his career. The song was played at his funeral on October 7th, 1986. The album Master of Puppets was their 3rd studio album. The part here you got the feels was actually when Cliffs bass solo started. He was such a talent on bass and in his writing that it is hard to imagine what he could have given the music world. He was only 24 yrs old when he died, so the song that you just reacted to was performed by a bunch of guys in their early 20's. Hard to believe that at 24 were on their 3rd studio album, its no wonder why Metallica is still performing today.

The Gods of Mt. Metal needed a bass player. He was too beautiful for this world. This is also the reason Rhoads died (also in an accident involving a tour bus- that's the "tell" that the Gods of Mt. Metal were behind it).

Hi Preston, Just wanted you to know the guitar in the beginning is the bass guitar hooked to a synthesizer, and the first solo at the 2:37 mark is also the bass guitar. If you haven't heard Anesthesia Pulling Teeth yet, check that out. Clifford Lee Burton was a bass guitar god. He died in a bus accident in Copenhagen Denmark while on the Master of Puppets tour in 1986. If you could find videos of Cliff live, I think you'd appreciate it more.
