"This is my type of song" That's what made Metallica. You can't deny the talent and the ability they had to convey feeling through their music. It's math meets emotion in a perfect storm. No one really listens to them and doesn't feel something. They're to metal what NWA is to rap I think. No one will ever be them.

I love how heavy and melancholy the first half of the song is simultaneously. The Song evolves. Feels like the first half is the first act of a story of man who's seen some shit in the war and came home and committed by his family to a Sanitarium to get better. He's sedated and miserable, slowly he becomes more acclimated and while he's playing along, he's not resigned. Then he slowly adapts and the big change comes with the line: "They think our heads are in their hands, but violent views bring violent plans. Keep him tied, it keeps him well. He's getting better, cant you tell?" I think this is where the patient is going mad and planning out violence against those keeping him restrained. Then right after that, the song changes to be very aggressive, citing "Mutiny's in the air" and "Got some Death to do." I think the song changes because he's fighting back. "Kill is such a friendly word... Seems the only way of reaching out again." The end of the song, he's in fight or flight mode, he's convinced he's either going to break free or die trying.. I love this song, and feel its telling a story.

Emperor Alvis your disdain of their album is subjective so therefore it is indeed option and not fact

The Call of Ktulu and Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth). You have to listen to the Live Version of Anesthesia though Preston. It's like 2 down when you look it up on here. It will blow your mind and give you Major Goosebumps to see what Cliff Burton could do with a Bass. RIP Cliff, you will Never be forgotten.

I've always thought this was the sleeper song of the album. In fact it's my favorite on the album entirely. It's not the most complex, but it didn't have to be to convey the message.

it’s a timeless classic man. and i’ll stop you there, every song on puppets is complex. that machine gun riffing in the bridge is impressive and takes skill

Don't feel bad for rewinding, and rewinding! I remember doing that exact same thing when I discovered Metallica in my teens! Wore the hell out of those cassettes. 😁 It's a beautiful thing to be able to see someone experience and appreciate great music. Love it!

Check out unforgiven 3. Some people probably hate or dislike it but there's something about that sound I just love. It's more laid back like you seem to enjoy.
