Yup Cliff used distortion & a wah wah pedal along with his Rickenbacker bass to make that accent.It's the same model bass that Geddy Lee of Rush favored & is equipped with a switch called "rickosound" (I think it was a certain phase variance)which gave it a "thick" tone.

Honest opinion: Metallica is not skillful when it comes to play the instruments. Lars is the worst metal drummer, Kirk has not improved himself for ages and so on. However, they have a great sense of music and they know how to use the skills they have. They know how to write instrumental sections, they know how to give music a feeling, they know how to appeal to their audience. In that perspective, Metallica is a successful band. Even though I like their instrumental pieces, they are not even close to my favourites. I'd go with Dream Theater's "Overture 1928" or "Stream of Consciousnees" or "The Dance of Eternity" if you ask mine.
@cbinette1006 жыл бұрын
@@berkefiliz3410fair enough. Dream theatre is amazing. No denying that fact. Lars, you right, is probably sub par as metal drummers go. But Metallica's music has never focused or even highlighted the drums. Aside from the Justice album when he got his new double bass pedals he has never had a prominent roll. He's really there to help keep the timing and be a manager. Metallica's real power lies in the strings. James is one of the best ever at creating riffs. And as much as you think Kirk is overrated I believe James is highly underrated as a metal guitar player. And Kirk hasn't evolved really because he found his signature sound and stuck with it. As a lot of guitarist tend to do. And lastly they had for three albums probably one of the greatest bass players to ever walk to the earth in Cliff Burton. You also say they are good at making the music their fans want. I just don't know that's true. Just look at Load, Reload, and St Anger. Not exactly well received by their traditional fan base. Also the fact that they have their own label and own studio let's them create whatever they want whenever they want to. There's no pressure from a label to produce certain types of music at certain intervals. I think they just make the music they want to hear and people jump on it.

The name of the song comes from a short story by H. P. Lovecraft "The Call of Cthulhu". Cthulhu is a cosmic being from the story. They had to change the name to Ktulu for copyright laws.

It's also established within the Cthulhu Mythos that there are many different spellings of the name used both by the cultists and those who were able to document their own investigations (rendering the name as whatever their mortal, mundane minds could comprehend of it). I just LOVE YOUR REACTIONS🔴 Metallica is the first band I flipped out over and couldn't wait to get home and listen to and learn new songs and solos on my guitar to play. I listened to these songs so much that I didn't think I could get this excited and into them again until I found your channel. My best friend died 4 days ago suddenly at 34yrs old and him and I would sit in his basement many nights and have beers and joints and play guitar and listen to tunes and we both worshipped Metallica. We had a falling out 10 yrs ago and I haven't talked with him since. I always thought I'd get the chance to patch things up but I've learned the hard way. That time waits for no-one and I lost my chance. The last couple of nights I've come on to search for the songs we use to listen to and OMG MAN I swear that listening to it with you is like listening to it all over again with him. The way you stop and rewind and play parts over and just appreciate little details here and there is exactly what we use to do lol. So it don't bother me at all that you do that cause I dig it man. Your deep and you understand that just like with hip hop or rap, there's a story being told with every song. With instrumental's the story is customized with each person listening. Man I got goosebumps again listening to these songs with you that I can't wait to listen to alot more of them with you, and also to songs I've never heard with you as well because I know you'll catch something that I've missed or don't notice in a new song or even an old one. Thanks for doing this man! I would like to see a metal head reacting to hip hop songs or rap songs because music is music and if you're like me, you could find something good in any song. Even a bad one lol. Hell maybe I'll start reacting. I love onyx, ice cube, dmx songs I've heard etc... And I know I haven't heard the best of em. Anyways thanks again man I look forward to many msny more 🍻

When I was a kid we where always outside doing something and we communicated alot better. It seemed that we had more empathy towards people because we where face to face with another human being! When I was a teen, my bedroom had a large skylight in it and one night during a heavy thunderstorm I laid on my bed under the skylight and listened to this track. It was a spiritual experience! Been a life long fan ever since.

Man call of ktulu is simply a masterpiece. I get goosebumps every single time I hear it.

This is the first of 3 or 4 songs dedicated to the 'Cthulhu' Mythos.. which were part of the books written by H.P. Lovecraft back in like he 1920's. 'The Call of Ktulu', 'The Thing That Should Not Be', and 'All Nightmare Long' for sure are the 3. I read, back in the late 80's, that Cliff Burton had introduced the group to a game similar to Dungeons and Dragons, called 'The Call of Cthulhu'. That is pretty much where they got the idea to do this, and the other songs eventually. Could not find a link to the actual article, but here's a good place to start: metallica.wikia.com/wiki/The_Thing_That_Should_Not_Be_(song) Peace

@TheNitelite106 жыл бұрын
YES YES YES!!!!! King KTF sir, you know how to bring it once again! Right now straight up, no joke, Metallica with S&M, this song and practically the whole album, there were a couple others I saw in the comments (which is it kind of shocking just to see a couple in all the comments I scrolled through) suggesting this same request and yes it will change your life! Also look into another life changing video of The Harvester of Sorrow in Moscow, and Battery in Seattle!

One of the greatest, and most complete instrumental of all time... so many time we're left wanting more, not The Call.... the emotion is complete!!!

Bro!! I love watching you reactions to Metallica. They are my all time favorite band. So I made you this playlist: 1. To Live Is To Die 2. Blackend 3. Shortest Straw 4. Ride The Lightning 5. Creeping Death 6. Disposable Hero's 7. Battery 8. Damage Inc. 9. Mama Said 10. Turn The Page. To be honest you really need to just listen to the whole albums to get the whole "experience". Then when you are done with all that check out; 1. Paul Gilbert, Technical Difficulties 2. Pearl Jam, Yellow Ledbetter
@andykapped08236 жыл бұрын
speedguy26 great list. I think he would really like And Justice For All because of the intro alone

That heavy wah and shredding in the background is Cliff Burton. Cliff is the reason why I picked up the bass

Oooooo.... another good one for you could be Creeping Death - Metallica. It is also on Ride the Lightning. I know that you like the change ups in the songs, and it has a really cool one. I would listen to the studio version, and then a Live version. Hetfield is pretty cool during the change up in a live concert.

The way they bring the crowd into it at a concert is awesome. Nothing like screaming DIE at the top of your lungs!! Lmao

It's a bass solo with added instruments.
@Juventinos6 жыл бұрын
that little guitar in the background at 6:18, is a bass. the whole first heavy part is an extended bass solo basically (if you guys are new to this, make sure to listen to a post 2005 live version of this song, Rob, the bassist, plays it in a very special way)

Cliff Burton in my opinion was a musical genius, He was a major influence in the band. Just imagine what he would have brought to music if he was still alive, we lost a great one in 1986.
