It’s going to be years until this is back to normal all that ground cover gone means winter mud slides will be crazy and flooding. This will take forever to get cleaned up. I understand the may be a nice guy to family but this is crazy really hope this was an accident and not on purpose.

You'd be surprised how quickly this area will recover. And you will see plants growing that haven't bloomed in decades because they need fire to germinate. A lot of those trees that look like standing dead are not dead, just burned back to the trunk. I lived below the Station Fire above La Canada/La Crescent. A year later the native ground cover had come back and the trees were green again. Nobody from the news station goes back to look at the burn area the following 12 months. Yes, mudslides and flooding. But if the burn area was smaller, it wouldn't be so severe. All of Cali used to burn in small lightening strike fires every ten years or so. Now we have absolute fire suppression and fuel buildup from cataclysm to cataclysm.

​@@ricoludovici2825 Sadly there were 3 fires in the mountains about an hour from where I live. They were bad and the only thing that prevented it from being worse was the monsoon rains. But that unfortunately became a huge issue with flooding and taking out homes and businesses that survived the fires. It's going to take years and years to build the growth back up to allow for hiking again. Sadly I had plans this Fall to explore a particular area more when it was cooler. Sadly one of the fires came through and wiped out most of it. Going into town I saw hill after hill with zero vegetation left with black sticks standing if this. I hope the burned areas don't flood as bad as Ruidoso has this summer.

@@jeannetteashlin1725 This is the problem with bad forest management and absolute fire suppression. The fires burn so hot that they sterilize the soil and kill the fast germinating seeds. I understand all that with the floods and property damage. In fact, the burn areas actually attract heavier rainfall than the unburned areas. A solution would be more frequent and smaller controlled burns. But nobody will agree to that. Then the whole place goes up in smoke. Wife and I have been through three fire cycles in Wrightwood and the 100 year Station Fire above La Canada. It was the largest fire in history until the Paradise fire.

I would highly suggest putting netting over all those burned hills after the fire is over, soil erosion and mudsliding is probably going to be a huge problem when the rain comes, nothing is holding the soil in place after the fire and the rain will wash all the toxic soil and ash from the fires downward into the rivers and streams and probably kill everything in them

this line fire and the airport fire both are very sad and even sadder when the captains for both counties completely did not use the planes and helicopters that carry fire retardant and water they should have been making several several drops and no houses burned because someone does not know how to manage several fire departments at once. There should have been around the clock dropping from planes and helicopters no matter what expense. This is absolutely wrong and gone way to far when we Californians have the best of resources and equipment to stop fires prior to it going on for days a week now. These captains should be charged for negligence for allowing the fires to spread and especially the airport fire that came over to Lake Elsinore when it should have been handled from the planes if the Captain was doing his job right. God Bless those who have lost their homes and those who were affected by this poorly managed captain who belongs in jail for allowing this to get out of control.

In order for the forest to return, people need to stay out. The land will repair itself faster if it is left to rest and recuperate. Pine trees release their seeds after a fire, and the animals and rains will help to clean the land. Native Americans know this. It is time to take the time to let the Earth heal itself. My prayers and deepest sympathies go to those who lost their homes. I too have lost a home to fire, it is heartbreaking and traumatizing. Halstenberg, if he is, indeed, the one who set the fire needs to be in prison at least until the Earth is healed. Since it will take many years, I doubt that he will see the light of day for a very long time, if ever
