That picture of Kareem and Bill really got me. Two of the best to ever play. Both legends.

Honestly in his prime Walton had the better of Kareem. Really was an all time great center who was a great defender and passer too

If not in most of their encounters, more than any other center - during Walton's prime. Walton did have some worthy teammates in Portland: The Enforcer - Maurice Lucas, Dave Twardzik, etc. "Honestly in his prime Walton had the better of Kareem." The Trail Blazers swept the Lakers with Jabaar in the 1977 playoffs, not many teams did that in Kareem's career.

Bill Walton did not win a national championship with the Portland Trailblazers. He won an NBA championship with the Trailblazers. And he was never a teammate of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. They did both played for UCLA. But were never teammates.

This is true, Jabbar is about 5 years older than Walton and were not teammates at UCLA. They did share a common bond in having Coach John Wooden in their years at UCLA, and both remember fondly Coach Wooden (was about to say "reached the age of 100" but died at the age of 99 in 2010). Back in the old days, the NBA Finals winners were at times called "World Champs" even though there were only US teams, not even Canadian back then.

You didn't see Bill Walton dunking in college because of the "Alcindor Rule" - put in place to prevent big guys from dominating the game, such as Lew Alcindor (Jabaar). It was rescinded after Walton left UCLA. Lawler's Law "First to 100 wins" Walton often quoted Ralph Lawler's simple saying in NBA broadcasts. Luke Walton, named after Bill's former Blazer teammate Maurice Lucas.

Portland has not won another one since. Came close in 2000, Scottie Pippen was on the team, he would have had one more championship than Jordan.
