Glad it is of use. I did not really think mine needed changing. But I’d heard the stories. Then I was surprised to find it was failing. I hope you have it sorted 👍

Just replaced mine. Only because the rubber O ring seal went inside & brought me to a sudden stop on my fish & chip run up to seahouses. Thanks for video as I am now back on the road. Fingers crossed. 👍🇬🇧

Wow! Cannot believe a brand new stock Magura clutch slave cylinder has damaged rubber around piston. I have a Rekluse version on standby ready to install in spring. This issue is constant debate on ADV. Some even joke that Magura owns Oberon. Kam
@CodgerBiker3 жыл бұрын
I was totally surprised too. I thought it was just an exaggeration, but mine was on the way out already. You could be right about Magura! 👍🤣😂

I went the same with prevention maintenance before mine failed. Only difference is that I just replaced the o-ring which fails. Great bikes.
@CodgerBiker4 жыл бұрын
That would certainly be much much cheaper. Still, the diaphram/gator thing on mine was split, so I'm happy to have changed it. I love this bike👍
@lonewolfadventures26764 жыл бұрын
@@CodgerBiker sorry , I meant to say I replaced the piston which has the new o-ring and diaphram . You can tell by the dots on the piston head, 3 dots are the old ones that fail and the new ones have 4 dots on them. Was a bit cheaper at $90.00 AU Dollars compared to $300.00 plus to get the oberon to Aus. Mine still looked fine when replaced but you were lucky to have caught yours when you did.👍
@CodgerBiker4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I'd heard of O ring replacement, but I had no information. The Oberon seemed to get the best feedback. It's made over here so that saves a little - still expensive. I hope it works out for us both either way. Typical KTM, but I go in with my eyes open having researched the bike as much as possible before buying. It is so good in many other ways changing a few components is just about acceptable. 👍

Hi Had the original slave cylinder given any sign of failure prior to you replacing it cheers thankyou 👍
@CodgerBiker3 жыл бұрын
None at all. I was sceptical about the need, but everyone said it would fail. So I was surprised to see the poor condition inside. The bike had only 500 miles on the clock, and the clutch was working fine. Glad I changed it. Most people just change the O ring I believe, much cheaper. 👍
@Aspired3293 жыл бұрын
Awesome, that's what I wanted to see was where part failed. I had about 500 on mine also, cruising having a great time in middle of nowhere, go to grab clutch and nothing there. Just had dealer replace but will take off and bag for spare. Funny I traded in a 2017 701SM that had 20k on the stock one, I rode everywhere on with no issues. Seems to be hit and miss, wonder if is install consistency or lot run issues? Not worth bagging risking bagging another trip on though so will swap and bring spare.
@CodgerBiker3 жыл бұрын
I didn't expect it to be failing. I thought it was just a myth. Glad I changed it. It seems to be hit and miss. I see on 2021 they finally changed it. Great clutch though 👍

very helpfull video!,mine went last week after 6700 miles. did you use the washers that came with the kit? as i have seen some people say that you dont need to use them?
@CodgerBiker3 жыл бұрын
Hello. From memory there was no need for the washers. I believe they are included for banjo style fittings on other bikes, and will leak on 690 style fitting if used. Well that is my memory. All has been fine for 2000+ miles so far 🤞👍

Hey boss i just replace my slave cylinder all new gaskets and everything and now I’ve developed a engine oil leak from the slave cylinder what can cause that ? Bad push rod seal ? Idk man im stumped
@CodgerBiker Жыл бұрын
Hard to say. My first thought would be to check the gasket isn't torn, it's easily done. Or has shifted. Or that it is torqued up equally and square. 🤔 Also you sure it isn't clutch fluid?
@williamwebster80504 жыл бұрын
Hi codger, I seem to have followed you via a 790 then to a 690. My 690 slave cylinder failed at 150 miles, in the centre of Beverly.
@CodgerBiker4 жыл бұрын
I had heard of it being an issue before I bought the bike. That and the seat being hard. And a possibility of subframe bolts either sticking or breaking. I’ve changed the seat. Checked the subframe bolts come undone. The last thing was this cylinder. I was expecting it to be a waste of money. Not so, mine was failing. I guess it is good to know about these things in advance. I loved the 790 but, somehow, the 690 suits me better. Let’s hope I have caught all the snags before they happen. 👍 PS how do you find the 690 compared to the 790?
@kuhndj673 жыл бұрын
My new (200 miles on it) 2020 Husqvarna 701 Enduro slave cylinder just crapped out so I ordered the Oberon part... really is sort of terrible that the stock part has been faulty for so long and KTM has not repaired it. My understanding is that the 2021 has the new part so is not susceptible to this... so much for 20's and 21's being basically identical.
@CodgerBiker3 жыл бұрын
I knew of the issue before I purchased, but was surprised of condition when removed. Great clutch otherwise. KTM have a weird history of not fixing things everyone knows about. Hopefully that's it for faults. 🤞

Do you need the washers for anything that comes with it?
@CodgerBiker Жыл бұрын
From memory, it was a while ago, there was a supplied washer for different fitments. But the Enduro R doesn't need it, in fact would leak. It's a direct replacement, so fit same as the one you take off 👍

Codger, loved the vid, and have the slave to replace this week too......I'm having problems sourcing the syringe assembly you used to back bleed the clutch........did you buy it locally or is it an Amazon special?
@CodgerBiker4 жыл бұрын
👍 Cheers Paul. It was an Amazon special. Hyber&Cara 100ml Syringe with 100cm tube. Thinking about it I reckon mine went easily because all the fluid had drained away, so no air pockets could be trapped by existing fluid (well maybe). Here is the link if it doesn't work try searching by name: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0829WRZZ1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i did the exact same mod on my 2020 with 800 miles. My stock unit looked fine fortunately but i was able to cross thread the inlet side, so it seems these oberon units are very soft and easy to cross thread.
@CodgerBiker4 жыл бұрын
Yes I used very little force. I think if it does not go back in with just finger pressure then it is likely to cross thread. We live and learn. But I am glad the stock one is changed as it was damaged and likely to fail by the look of it. 👍

I have a ktm 640 lc4 Enduro 2004 with 15000 miles I did't have any problem with Hydraulic clutch until 6.000 miles so reading to your problem after only 500 miles I think to be very luky :), I still have original cylinder and I changed two pistons but every 150 miles I have to refil with mineral fluid and for shure I should have changed both cylinder and piston because the old cylinder probably has a wear so if you change only the piston it works better for few miles but you do not resolve the problem... now I want to install Oberon CLU1600 which should be plug and play I read that Oberon kit has been fully redesigned for resolve for evere this inacceptable problem... I cannot understand how is possible than KTM still has such a big problem on new 690 R which it is a very expensive motorcycle this is shameful !!! Is here some people who installed Oberon on 640 LC4 ??
