I took off my Puig and replaced it with the Airflow. Night and day difference, best mod I ever made on my bike.

I can see that. I found the Puig Touring fine for me. It’s very subjective isn’t it. The Airflow worked well and was very flexible but I could not get along with the looks 👍

I have this screen and like it because I can lower it for off road use. I tried the Puig and the height was fine on road but off road it really bounced around and was too high to look down at the rough trails. I did however cut 3 inches off the top of the airflow. I found that is solid and easy to see over off road in the lowest position. It has lots of adjustment up to still direct the air over my head on the highway if I want, but it does so well at even the lowest setting so I just leave it there. I do not notice any vibration being transmitted to the bike from the screen, and really like the solid mounting system.

Yes the Puig touring screen is really for road, I agree. I tried but just could not get on with the looks of the Airflow. I thought it worked really well. I was a little concerned by the bracing, if the screen flexes then the energy is dispersed. But if braced might (I only say might) pass into the mount. Probably just my paranoia. 👍

@@jordi2362: he mentions above that he's 178 cms (5'10") in his boots - since even at lowest setting the airflow was above his helmet , so at up to several inches higher being possible it should satisfy tall guys

I used Puig touring screen on 2022 890 adv. It was fantastic. Im 5'8" and could see over it but rode as if in a bubble, no wind or buffeting even at high motorway speeds. Difference to stock screen was night and day. Now have a 2023 890 and was gutted to find Puig dont do similar design for the updated front end (they do a touring screen but it is really raked and rounded top)

I agree Puig touring screen on my 790 Adv was far and away the best. Tried one on a CB500x, but it was no good. They hit the mark with the older KTM version. 👍

They did! God knows why they didn't continue with the design. I have found something similar looking by Powerbronze for £98 which I will try.. Interesting you say the Puig didn't work so well for you on your cbx500 Btw, I tried a 690 for while after my first 890, influenced in part by some of your videos. I really loved it until I did a distance ride when I realized it wasn't for me as was never going to get up to Scotland or down to Spain on it (if I were a young man maybe that wouldn't have been an issue)! Hence my going from back to a newer 890. I've enjoyed your channel, dte. I work 1/2 week in Lpool, now live near Caernarfon - if you're out this way and fancy meeting for a ride in the hills let me know

Wow, thanks for that. Really appreciated. Touring on the 690 I agree, perfectly possible if 30 years younger. I still think it is the best bike KTM ever came up with. Sadly, doctors orders, no more off road for me. Spine injury, mended but took 8 months. I tried Power Bronze, Puig on the 500x. Nothing worked. In the end I made do with a spoiler, from eBay, for £12. I didn't like the look but it was effective. I did 1300+ miles on motorways etc to/from Scotland and it helped. But the Puig 790/890 was in a class of its own. Even on low, at 100+ mph on Isle of Man it was buffet free. My NT1100 stock screen on high setting works well, but entirely different bike. Good luck. Ride safe. Bri. 👍👍

Sorry to hear about your back! Sounds like it was pretty bad at the time but great you are recovered and riding. A recommendation If you are out West, the B4407 is beautiful, then the Mawddach toll crossing over the wooden bridge to George III, then West on the A493 and take first left up amazing steep road through woods, Coed y Gribin (I'd avoid autumn fall), to views of Cader Idris, right at the top, along to end and then U turn and back down middle of the 3 minor N/S roads. All stunning. All best, ride safe.. Cheers, John

maaan, u are THE person to help me out. so, the puig is definately the better looking. i am looking at the big puig touring screen for a v strom 650 xt, the new v stroms. i want the protection to help me at motorway speeds at 75-85mph. i am so crazy undecided and no one really talking on forums about puigs. also the puig i am talking about is the one they offer with a wind deflector and a rather tall screen. please choose for me! :)

The best screen I have had for my GS. It took about a week to get it set just right and heaven from there. Zero buffeting and little noise. It even keeps the rain off my helmet. I do think they feel a bit different on some bikes. On my GS, it is perfection. I rode my buddy's Vstom with a Givi on it and felt like it was not doing the same thing. Maybe the way the front ends are made affects the screen, also on my GS, I have a lot of protection already from the large tank and fairing. It did take me a week to get it set right and get used to it, now I will never take it off, well not on purpose lol

Hello, I have now fitted the Givi Airflow AF7711G to my KTM 390 ADV. In Germany, you need an operating licence for a windshield. I am not completely satisfied with the disc. I have exactly the edge of the screen in my field of vision when sitting on the bike. I find that annoying. What other options are there for the 390 ? Greetings Stefan

I do not know if it fits the same (most likely it does) but on my 790 Adv I preferred the Puig Touring Screen to all others. Screens are very personal of course 👍 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gF6liJqCrNZpb6s

Tried this screen on the 390 adventure and have never had such a bad screen for buffeting in my life, feels like a team of baseball players circling and hitting me with baseball bats 😩😢 not sure if the front is much different or that you sit lower in the bike on the 790 but definitely doesn’t work well on the 390.

Not as such. I’ve ridden locally at low speed without. However, long distance on a motorway at 70+ mph in such a upright seating position is not going to be pleasant on the chest in my experience even on naked bikes with a forward lean.

@@CodgerBiker I can tell you it’s not fun. I didn’t get the stock screen for my 790 R (long story involving a truck fire when my bike was being delivered) and last week did a 287 mile trip one way (so close to 600 mile round trip) on the freeways here in California and the wind and buffeting naked was pretty bad naked. I’m looking at the 7710D sport kit for mine
@aeon8721
@aeon8721 4 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I'm the same height as you and find the noise from the stock screen seems to be vortices shed from the side of that screen buffeting my ears. I guess there is a Givi Airflow in my future if it eliminates that. Assuming anyone is actually bothering to ship from Europe to NZ in the near future ...
@CodgerBiker

Yes it fascinates me too. I was talking to a bloke at the dealers back from a test ride on the same bike I’d ridden. He said no way he could have the bike, his head was battered. We both had peaked helmets. Both had stock screen on high setting. Both about the same height. I hadn’t even thought of it until hearing his reaction. The Givi was better than the Puig (and lots of variation possible) but the Puig is good enough for me and less ‘busy’. That’s as honest as I can be. It’s very subjective, even mirrors might alter it. All caused by Adv riding position I guess. Sometimes no screen is quieter if the flow is smooth. Let me know if you solve it.

@@CodgerBiker I've just fitted what was apparently the only Givi Airflow for the 790 Adv in stock in New Zealand (according to the importer). Rather irritatingly, it came with some wrong bolts and I thought I'd have to wait until the next batch from Italy. But my dealer was able to sort me out from his bits box. Verdict: much, much better. I can ride up to 80kph with the face shield up and without earplugs. Even better, the deafening and head-battering buffeting at 100kph is gone. I reckon KTM should just fit the Airflow stock ...

Hello. Yes I am glad you confirm what I found. It is smooth to ride with. I hesitate to recommend anything because it seems so personal on this bike, but the adjustability helps on this one with that. Unfortunately not many people like the looks, so I am not sure how successful it will be.
@aeon8721

It's definitely not a pretty screen. But it is functional and does its thing below my eye line. And I didn't buy the bike because I reckon it looks good anyway. It's a triumph of function over form, so a little more uglifying won't do any harm!

Late on this one but have an 890 on order. I had a Varadero in 2000 and by far the worst ever stock screen. I put a Vario screen with much the same principle as the Givi and transformed the bike from hideous even with ear plugs to almost serene. Most screens are little more than bluff bodies, the worst being “rally raid” style. They look great but that’s about it unless on a naked dual sport where any change is an improvement.

Also there is much variation on subjective experience. For me, on 790 Adv, the Puig Touring Screen was best at high speed in terms of performance/appearance. There's no one size solution. 👍

178cm in my boots. But I know from experience that height doesn't mean a lot. I slouch. Some people have longer or shorter leg/body ratio, or sit differently, or set mirrors differently, or have different crash helmets... you can only judge for yourself. For me, the Puig Touring Screen worked best.
