...I've been riding all my life since I was 14 (60+ now) and I am just thrilled to see women embracing motorcycling like never before in every country and Kate (and many others) is helping to increase and sustain that - my ADV helmet visor is utterly tipped to you with honor, respect & admiration! Also appreciate you "spanking" the 790 so nicely and sharing it!

Thanks man! That means a lot! I've been riding myself for 10 years and motorcycles and riding are my life! Nice to show sometimes that we can be serious about it, rather than a lot of what you see on social media which is a chick in a helmet and bikini that doesnt ride!! Say tuned as I have some awesome plans for next week in store 😜 also, i think i need some new adjectives as spanking is overused after this vid 😂

Nice video Kate! Actually good to see a bike review with someone actually riding some twisty roads and not hanging about! instead of boring M-Way/Freeway and in town rubbish. Took one out few days ago. A very good fun bike the 790.. BTW like the 690 had a few rides on them over the 4 years I`ve had a KTM as a courtesy bike usually. Bloomin good fun too!!!!!!!!

Well done. Music selection was good, +1 on cutting volume in half. The music adds to the character of the video, as does the sound of the engine. Also, if available, you might wanna invest in a wind sock for the camera microphone, they’re inexpensive and go a long way towards cutting down wind noise. Keep up the great work, you’re coming along.

'avin brew Kate? Nice to see you back out on the bike in far better weather. I'm looking forward to riding this bike. As an observation, I'd recommend taking a slightly wider entry line into your corners curving to your right. I know with the dry stone walls you wouldn't want to be too close to them, but a wide in tight out, slow in fast out, mantra will help you maintain the same speeds but with a greater safety margin. Love your 690 btw, very cool. Safe riding!

I love single cylinder SopfistiKate, , it was me that bought a Ducati 250 Mk 3 when they were £400-£250 on MCN market, I got one for £175, it had no twist throttle, only a lawnmower throttle, which didn't matter anyway as I just rode it on max...(as the strokers had hit the market in mid 80's, YAM RD 250's etc etc and tumbled the market for 4 strokes. , anyway, I had this 250 Single Duke it would pop fart / fire at every lampost it seemed, it was so small, easy to ride, top speed was only about 80 mph lol at a push , ok 75?, but you could almost go flatout even on those tyres of that era, everywhere out of town.) Sadly i sold that gorgeous bike due to lack of finances to move on up??? It was not a move up in hindsight, i had so much fun and so many smiles per mile on that beast...I .wish I had kept that bike now.....worth about £10k lol

Hi. Great video. I test rode a 790 Duke yesterday and with customized platform boots I had bought & modified for the day because I am on tiptoes otherwise. Questioning the seat height 2 of the KTM staff advised me that you have to get used to one foot, Not 2! I'm 61+ and about 5'6". Any thoughts. I'm supposing you are 5'8"+? Jan: After 7000 KMs on my 390, and now over 2000 KMs on the 790 that replaced it, I am still trying to work out the difference between the two. Essentially the 790 is “more of the same”, which is what I was looking for. The differences are nuances. So far I have go it down to * 790 + more torque, need to change gear less. * 790 + academically faster, but on real world roads little real difference. You just need to push the 790 a little less. * 390 + the 790 is definitely heavier, not enough to be a problem, and is light in its class, but lacks the magic lightness of the 390. * 390 + the 790 is louder, less of a stealth bike early in the morning. * 790 +- kicks out much more heat, great on a cold morning, less so in late afternoon rush-hour traffic. * 790 + just as naked, but has more wind protection at speed. Maybe down to the shape of the tank? * Both very eager to go and highly flickable around the twisties. * Both light and highly manoeuvrable - ideal for the license test. The 790 will probably be better with the examiner on the back …. * Both small enough to use in city traffic, though even smaller would be better! * 390 + Fuel level readout: The 790 take much longer on startup to give a true reading. Left over night with a full tank, next morning on startup it will give a low fuel warning and take several minutes / miles to correct. * 390 + The 390 is strangely the smoother of the 2, despite being single cylinder. providing you are in the correct gear / rev range. Putting it one way: if you are happy and confident on the 390, then you will be happy and confident on the 790 - from the very first few metres! But if you are happy and confident on the 390, why change?

you ride fast! did you know the road before you videoed it? Some of those blind commits were way faster than I would feel comfortable with, and I have been riding for over 40 years, but YMMV. OTOH, I do love a grey day for going for a fang! Nice job, maybe talk a bit more about your process? Always good to get another, maybe different, perspective...
@UsernameKate6 жыл бұрын
I hadn't ridden that road before but I ride a 690 and I know that bike better than I know myself, the two feel very similar in lightness. I don't ride out of my comfort zone so I was pretty comfortable filming this. I love twisties, you can ride fast without breaking speed limits as they're usually 60s lol sorry I'm not quite sure what those capital letters stand for... 🙈 what would you like to know about the process? I've just got a vlogging Mic for my camera so I can talk on the move now! :)
@walkerjian6 жыл бұрын
@@UsernameKate Your lines are nice, and like you I like twisties; in oz we have 'advisory' signs that are actually very good - so you have a speed limit sign, which may be 80Km/H and advisory signs that might indicate the curve of the road and a speed - say 40Km/H, so I play doublesy - triplesy - by either doubling or tripling the advisory... it's fun and relatively safe for roads I do not know, and even those that I do - Thunderbolts Run is my favourite. The rock walls and blind lefties (with snotty dribbles on the off cambers) of your video give me the willies... You did seem to handle them with ease though. Nice. As far as process goes, it is nice to do the zen waft through the slings and arrows of outrageous roads, silently, but it is also nice to wax the occasional loquacious and describe what you are feeling in the moment - how is the quick shifter / blipper responding to your inputs, how you feel tipping in and basting out of a turn. How the brakes bite. Little bit of a stream of conscious, in the moment, narrative...

Yay..was waiting for you to ride it again. Nice road around the lakes. Bike sounds good to me. Sounds pretty smooth. How was it over bumps in the road? Do feel comfortable buying the first the first year of a new bike? In particular this one? Guess one is covered with a warranty? Hope most or all of the throttle snatchiness is gone in street mode? As I said I currently have no bike so really interested once it hits the states.
@UsernameKate6 жыл бұрын
dry509 i found the suspension firm, which is nice when youre tabking along. Yes, street mode made it fine on the tight twisties! It doesnt bother me tbh! I like new tech and models and like you say there is a warranty. Thankyou for a really nice video....... I currently ride a Duke 690 and find it quite engaging and at times challenging : needing 3500 rpm to smooth out inherent vibes. Nevertheless on the right roads it is huge fun and somewhat unique in the current biking world.... I also took out a Duke 790 as a possible swap......finding it very pleasant, smooth and tractable....much easier in traffic.....it will probably sell well in the MOR market But 20 mins in to the test ride I realised the 790 was a bit 'too easy' and may become bland after owning one for a short time.... So I'm keeping the 690 and hope KTM continue to build them.......

can you guys explain to me how a bike can look smart? Sorry maybe its thing where you guys come from... But in the USA I don't see how you can put glasses on a bike or give it a gpa... lol

Surya Pratap hey! Sorry i havent ridden the ninja 650 so I have no comparison to give you :( might be worth a test ride yourself on both? :)

Consider cost and reliability. KTM reliability is spotty for what you pay.

To be fair, I had a 1997 620 rxc dual sport and it never gave me any problems. But I've been hearing things about the newer stuff.

Kate: the 790's shift assistant may be smoother than those of the competition, but is still not as smooth as a perfectly executed manual change. To be honest, I rarely use it. I guess I would have to be riding at least a gear lower on average, and much higher in the rev band. In fact, sometimes it can be a minor nuisance: If my left foot is a little too forward on the peg, and the bike hits a bump, the result can be an unintended upshift.

Christopher Lamb i didnt have a problem with it at all, i really really surprised with the autoblipper, it was honestly really smooth. Although the only other thing I have ridden with an autoblipper was a superduke so same tech. But for how I ride, I just got on with it :)

Kate: I don't have a problem with the shift assistant at all, I just don't think the 790 needs one - at least with my riding style.

Such a pity the wheels are black, orange ones would be brilliant like the 390. nice vid.
