This is a real world test of acceleration (better to say elasticity) of KTM Adventure 790 next to Yamaha Ténéré 700. The weight of the riders is not equal, but this often happen in a real world on when you try to chase your friend on the trip. And that's why we exchanged the bikes to see that the difference between these two adventure motorcycles may not be as big as you thought.

What's in the video:
KTM 790 Adventure Acceleration
Yamaha Ténéré 700 Rally Acceleration
Good to repeat: Yamaha Ténéré has mounted Akrapovič Slip-On Exhaust which adds 1.7 Kw, 2.3 NM of torque and decreases the weight of Ténéré by 2.3 Kg. Besides that, bikes are stock without any accesories.
Maximum speed I saw on the speedo:
KTM 790 Adventure: 201 Km/h
Yamaha Ténéré 700: 210 Km/h
But in reality, acceleration of KTM Adventure 790 S feels harder and it is harder in higher speeds, in steeper hills, way more felt when you go with a passenger. Also on a trip side by side, you will have better times and average speed on KTM. It has way more rigid and road oriented suspension, stronger engine, you go full gus when exiting a corner sooner than on more off-road oriented Yamaha Ténéré 700. Both are great bikes in the end of the day : )

Besides that the T7 look better, the CP2 engine has won multiple time the best engine. Meanwhile KTM is still working on beeing reliable. At the end all that counts is that you buy the one YOU like and be happy with it. And besides the cv and the nm, the T7 still looks better, it's taste and everybody has his own, I just don't like the KTM looks 👍

Zajímavé video Jindro, ale dle mě poukazuje pouze na elasticitu. Rádi bychom viděli rozdíl v drag race - alespoň 2 kvalty vytočené do červeného spektra ;) Nicméně kloubouk dolů. Sleduji tě, máš super videa!!

Váha , plus výška - versus odpor těla je znát i na větším obsahu. Musím potvrdit - mé dva metry a přes 120 kg . Jediná motorka na které jsem vydržel i přes 230km/h byla letos nová FJR-1300 , díky velkému el. vysouvacímu plexi . Ale ty testy mají hoši velký smysl, lidi si aspoň mohou udělat obrázek. Love my Tenere! If it was about being fast I’d have gotten the Fz07, and the price was amazing compared to the KTM

it's amazing how manufacturers decide what they can get away with charging in each country they sell their bikes. I bought a 790 Adventure because it had a few things I'd want but can't get on the T7 and the price difference was less than $1,000 AUD. They bump up the price for the Tenere here in Australia

Alot of that could be rider skill as well. My buddy and I both have dr650's with identical mods, I weigh 90lbs MORE than he does and I still regularly beat him when we race. All about hitting the right revs and knowing when to shift to stay in the power band.

Well done. This is one of the most interesting videos I've seen about motorbikes. Of course it's not a scientific experiment whatsoever, but I trust you guys are genuinely squeezing the throttle as much as you can. In the meantime I should warn you that I'm a hell of a racer, cause I weight 65 Kg / 143 lbs only. 8) Let's just bear in mind that a heavier rider will be able to stop the bike faster, if needed.

A heavier biker would have more mass that he needs to decelerate, so all other things being equal, a heavier biker/heavier bike needs more time to stop

@@steffenthorup6888 I'm not an expert, but I don't think what you said is correct. Gravity plays a big role when stopping a vehicle as it contributes to friction between the wheels and the asphalt pavement.

@@nunooliveira4257 yes, but gravity is the same for all of us. I get why you think the way you do, as you need weight to create friction with the road, in order to brake. But that is a non issue here, at least if you use your front brakes, as the bikes momentum gives all the weight you need to stop. A larger rider only increases the mass that the brakes have to stop. Sort of like why a loaded truck takes longer to stop than an empty truck

For me the power advantage of the ktm wasnt the deciding factor, I was looking for the best suspension and a large fuel tank. The T7 didnt give me what I wanted without spending money. both good bikes but for performance from out of the box. ktm it was. awesome bike.

My two choice for next year...and i in doubt, steticaly the T7 like more but i like a bit more the KTM engine and its electronic options...i don't know...

and this is why it's better to have disciplined control of our weight than spend a small fortune on sometimes minimal power gains. That 34 kg difference turnaround in the 2 tests (since one adds 17 and one subtracts 17) demonstrates this notion beautifully. My chubster mate on his 2015 GS1200 could never match my 2014 Vstrom 1000 in roll-on times in any gear due to the 22kg rider weight difference

Surely it would be interesting to compare performance with Rally throttle, but since it appears to be an Adventure S version it might have no Rally mode enabled whatsoever.

The total weigth that has to move the bike is so important. 1st - Tenerè + rider = 317kg vs 311kg of ktm and so the difference was the power, in 2nd case Tener+rider=300kg vs 328kg ktm and that is almost 10% and in fact we saw tenerè won or tie all the challenges despite 20hp less

La KTM es más veloz y más potente en todos los sentidos, pero bueno...fanáticos afuera. Me encantan ambas motos pero son diferentes. Si hablamos de velocidad, es claro que la Tenere se queda atrás, pero no deja de ser una excelente moto. Si quisiera velocidad y aceleración, sin dudas KTM, si quisiera versatilidad, iría por la Yamaha. Ambas motos me encantan.

Very interesting comparison!! Rider weight is very important, and the weight difference between these two pilots is not big. It's important to mention that the Akrapovic slip on mounted on the Tenere, it's actually a disadvantage for the Tenere, as these mods do tend to give a slight increase in power in the top end, but low and mid-range torque tend to be slightly lower than stock* And in these kids of tests, low and mid-range performance is more important than peak top power. *I'm not talking about the powerband graphs....I'm talking about real experience I have found out in a couple of bikes, (2017 Bmw R1200GS and 2020 Bmw R1250GS), where the bike with the Akra slip-on has slightly lower low and mid-range, but does go a bit better in the last 1000rpms of the range.

The KTM is faster but it has alot of common engine and electrical problems. In the UK you can get the KTM 790 for the same price as a T7.

Well there you go, that was my experience, never with my Tenere did I notice an appreciable difference in power vs people riding KTMs…and also, their bikes were always broken down and in the shop…terrible

love d video but we all know by now that the speedometer is not 100% perfect. its 8-10 km/h less... depend. another issue is that odometer is adding extra km unnecessarily. it should be recall for all bikes as it is fault.

Road tyres for the ktm, mixte for the T7. 17 kg more for the T7 rider. And only 1900km for the T7, a yamaha saler says the machine show its real capacity after 5 000 or 6000 km

Watch out, it seems that you have Spanish plates....blur them, in Spain you can be prosecuted for doing this tests in an open road

This is most stupid speed comparasing because these bikes have simply very different gear ratios and different torque spreading. And these kind of tests always amusing to watch. From the start KTM will destroy Tenere. 790 even destroys 1290 till 150 km/h and only then 1290 is waking up and destroying it.
