Spine/Disc Pain
Disc pain can be caused by any number of conditions that affect the vital components of the spine. Discs can herniate and swell, slip away from their correct positioning between the bony vertebrae, or rupture. These issues cause pressure on the many nerves that leave the spine and make the simplest activities very painful.
With the vast number of causes of pain around the spine, it's nearly impossible to correctly identify exactly what is happening without professional medical diagnosis. However, increased blood flow and reduced pressure on the nerves in the area will certainly help to decrease pain and inflammation.
Using the following KT Tape application can relieve pain localized at the spine on particular vertebrae as well as some radiating pain. However, make sure that you see a medical professional to address the root cause of the pain. Remember that disc pain can be a symptom of very serious issues. You should certainly consult a physician for proper diagnosis and treatment if you have trouble breathing, sleeping, balancing, or getting up and down out of a chair.

- For the very best results, rubbing alcohol will ensure oils, dirt, and any soap residues are removed from the skins surface. The skin needs to be completely dry after cleaning the area. Any remaining water, oils, or soap residues can cause adhesion trouble. -Clip or shave excessive hair down to 1/8". Tape sticks best directly to skin. -Avoid overstretching. More tension does not equal more support. Follow tension recommendations. -Leave a 2 inch "anchor" point on each end of the KT Strips. The anchor points should also be attached to skin directly. -Avoid touching the adhesive side of the tape. Skin cells come off with the adhesive, and will not re-adhere when touched. Handling the tape with the backer paper is what we suggest. -Once the tape has contacted skin that should be its ultimate location. You will not want to re-position the tape as the strips are not reusable. Once the adhesive has contacted skin that should be where it lies. -Applying a friction rub to the strips will help activate the adhesive. This can be done using the backer paper, your hand, or a hairdryer on a low setting for 15 seconds. -Apply tape 30 minutes prior to sweating, using in water, or starting an activity.

There are several applications that do require some sort of assistance to be able to be applied correctly, but this aid can come from a friend, family member, neighbor, or someone you feel comfortable with. It is not required to be taped up by a medical professional. Top and ball of the foot, heel and ankle, knee, and elbow can all be applied by oneself. I've found that using a mirror is very helpful especially taping areas on the foot. The reflection can help you locate specific areas where the tape needs to be laid down. Lower back, shoulder, posture, and wrist will require some sort of assistance based on the difficulty of reaching to these areas on your own. I'd recommend having someone watch the corresponding video once to see the instructions, and then watch it again as the strips are being applied. I can see how more self-application videos would be helpful, and I will certainly pass this suggestion onto the team. I hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any other questions.
