As an electrical engineer, I really enjoyed this video. Thanks for sharing. TopCon is familiar for ranging, sighting, surveying and other construction measurements. Makes me want to go out and move some earth around LOL. Stay safe!!

Thank you. I enjoy the excavator work and the Topcon receiver sure helps since I usually work alone.

Your welcome. I like mine. The instructions could be clearer but the unit has done great.

How did you select the specific model? I assume they all work with any topcon laser model. Some of them I've seen also come with a cab receiver did yours come with that or is that a separate item?
@planeanddirtsimpleАй бұрын
I bought that receiver because it was a Topcon and I thought it might work better with the Topcon laser vs another brand. Also I liked the display. It’s easy to see from the cab. Bright sunshine makes it more difficult but still you can see it. This model didn’t come with a cab indicator. I believe it could be added. If my cab on the dozer was enclosed I would have looked at that more.

How do you manage to figure out exact position of the bucket and the arm to get level? Looks like the bucket needs to be at a certain distance, bucket and arm needs at a certain position to get grade?
@planeanddirtsimple7 ай бұрын
You can set level on the Topcon with the bucket/arm at any position you just need to be in that position each time to be accurate when reading the Topcon. I position the bucket flat on the ground and the arm 90 degrees from ground or what I feel like is 90. That’s the most natural position for me to check grade. After you do it a few times it will be second nature.

Curious why you didn't opt for the magnetic mount for the boom-mount B110?
@planeanddirtsimple3 жыл бұрын
I was concerned about the magnets moving(slipping) and I could build this brace for about $30 vs $225?? for magnet mount. Magnets may work fine and I may use magnets on the dozer blade. Thanks for watching!

"... and here I am digging a drainage ditch with my backhoe and ...standby 1, have to answer the phone ... sorry folks, looks as though I have to go fly the Cessna Citation M2!" :) Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to operate a real backhoe! I have had my commercial multi-instrument since 1974 and unlimited access to a Piper Aztec, but I have yet to do the backhoe! :) One of these days! PS.> yours are by far the very best M2/private jet vids on YT. Cheers and all the best in 2021 from Lyle in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Lol! thank you for the nice comment! I always wanted one too. Love digging with it. Especially digging stumps. I don’t know why that brings such joy but it does. I used to look at stumps on my place and think if only I had a hoe! I like the Pipers. Did my multi engine rating in Mobile, AL in an Apache. Happy New Year to you and God bless.

How did you get into this kind of work? It's interesting. As a aside, would it have been more efficient to load the dump truck when digging thr ditch? Only handle the dirt once?
@planeanddirtsimple3 жыл бұрын
I have always been around construction and always liked dirt work. When I bought some land that needed clearing I bought a dozer, cleared the land and started working the dozer for other people. I had never run a dozer before so I taught myself the basics while clearing the land and went from there. If you can load the truck without getting out of excavator and moving truck several times yes it would be more efficient. But I would have had to move the truck a lot doing this ditch. So I pushed the dirt into piles and moved the truck a few times. Just my preference. I like staying on task sort of speak when digging a slope. Getting in and out of excavator breaks up my rhythm. Thanks for watching!
