I think I've viewed B. Lyndon over 20 times, never fails to hit me in the Cine-Nerv & turned me into a Schubert aficionado! Thanks Stanley

The Eye Ballet ( great name for it) is the best scene in the movie. I love that you see Murray Melvin put together the subtle action of the scene as he sees Lady Lyndon being swept away. The authentic look of the entire scene cannot be matched.

This film is outstanding, brilliantly detailed ,thought provoking. Kubrick made films, he didn't just shoot film for a quick buck. Watch film worker which gives a great insight into the workings of kubrick told through the eyes of his long suffering assistant leon vitali.

Yes!! Love everything you said ( including suggestions) as Mr. Kubrick is not only my favorite director of all time, but My 3 all time favorite films are Barry Lyndon , A clockwork orange, and # 3 is Full metal jacket!! Barry Lyndon is a most underated film that all film lovers should take a gaze at before they die for sure.

I was always told this was the worst of Kubrick’s classic works. The first time I saw it, I agreed. Then I saw it a second time and loved it. I’ve seen it several times since and it now is one of my favorites of his. Seems to evoke deep life truths, without ever being moralistic. I invite you to watch Kubrick’s film with the idea they are about the human condition rather than being about the characters on screen.

It's a masterpiece of production. Every scene looks like a rococo painting brought to life. I find the second part a little hard to watch because the protagonist is just such a jerk.

Kubrick apparently reduced Neil Armstrong to tears with his demanding 217 takes for the 'That's One Small Step for Man' sequence. Armstong kept saying 'for a man' until he finally caved to Kubrick's idiosyncratic grammatical demands. There was also supposed to be a scene where Michael Collins landed and instigated a low-gravity custard pie fight, but it had to be cut for budget reasons.

@@kevzsabz8253 Heh, fortunate then that the comment was purely meant as a joke to mock people who do believe that sort of conspiracy guff. Rest assured I fully believe we landed on the moon. 217 takes in an A7L space-suit? The Shining's Shelly Duval had it easy! Also, if you get a chance check out the album 'Race for Space' by Public Service Broadcasting which uses extensive sampling from both NASA and CCCP missions. Quite moving stuff. All the best!

@@PeterEvansPeteTakesPictures Oh see i thought it was serious, i don't really believe in conspiracy theories including this one. But good for you for joking around like that. Yeah Kubrick was very brutal but i think because he was a self-proclaimed perfectionist. I love his work very much especially 2001, Barry Lyndon and Full Metal Jacket. What about you whats your favourite movie of his? 😊😊

@@kevzsabz8253 Oof. That's a tough question. I used to be pretty unsure as to what I thought about Barry Lyndon but now I find myself loving it more and more each time I watch it. It's such a time capsule of a movie and reminds me of the strange 'the past is a foreign country' atmosphere I get from Sally Potter's 'Orlando'. Once up a time I would have firmly said Dr. Strangelove. Not only is it superbly funny in its dark way but it also has a truly great mix of directorial styles, from film-noir to cinema verite. For some reason I was and do remain convinced by the cut-out-planes-against-high-res-backdrops effects. But if I could only choose one Kubrick movie I think it would be 2001: A Space Odyssey. In many respects I think its still unsurpassed as a work of science-fiction cinema and it shaped our perception of the universe. Some of the shots still look utterly real to me, and there's almost a religious quality to it. I can also recommend most of the movies by Terrence Malick. If you've never seen 'Badlands' that's a must, as is 'Days of Heaven' and the incredible 'Tree of LIfe'. Oh and finally for a good sketch about the ridiculousness of conspiracy theories (Including landing on the moon) check out the great Mitchell & Webb sketch 'conspiracy theories'. It's deeply funny. :)

I think '2001' and 'Paths of Glory' are both far more stunning and beautiful than this. And as for the lighting by candlelight aspect, I'd argue that 'MacCabe and Mrs Miller' is the superior movie on that front. Kubrick's painstaking candlelit scenes are static and, dare I say it, boring. Altman's equivalents are full of vibrancy, interest and life. No contest. (p.s. I still think 'Barry Lyndon' is a masterpiece of cinema, nevertheless, I am not debating that).
