Would I be correct in assuming that either you, or whomever trained you, did Muay Thai at some point? You seemed to have a lot of Muay Thai influence in your other vids. Just asking because I know a lot of kudoka come from other arts, and it influences their style.

Gess Hugh Yes, I trained in Muay Thai for a couple of years before starting Kudo and did a couple of trips to Thailand too. Also my teacher Iimura Kenichi fought Muay thai as well as Kudo, as did many of my other sempai. So our dojo style was almost pure Muay Thai with some adaptations to the Kudo rules. I also cross trained in BJJ. But since starting my own dojo I have been working some Judo into my clinch and focusing more on striking to clinch to takedown and dominant position or submission. Tying all the various techniques I've learned together into effective combinations for Kudo.

Very nice, just one question: what if in the knee defence technique the knee is in a straight motion and not circular? I mean, closing in will sure save your ribs but you will get hit on the leg or less likely on the groin. If however you move your hips in circular motion inside you will be too exposed for a takedown, even a throw. Any ideas?

Philippos Kladouhas yes I see what you are getting at. The defence shown is just one option of many. I usually teach this one first because it creates a good habit of keeping your hips close rather than pulling away. The closer your hips are when your opponent throws the knee the easier it is to get your hips inside without the consequences you speak of. But if there is too much space between you at the beginning then yes you can wind up pulling yourself into the oncoming knee. So in that situation a different defensive strategy is advised. Such as using your shin placed across the top of his thighs to shut down his knee attack. I'll have to make another video showing other defences.

@@kudoista I get it, simple and effective. It's better to keep the hips close but a plan b is always good to have. Thanks a lot.

There is no kudo school in my country, can I train and spar with a friend at home?

Well yes, for some things, but you are way better off finding a teacher. Are there any mma schools? Technically they are very similar. Just the different rules leads to different emphasis on which aspects you train more. If you get a good base in striking and BJJ with some basic wrestling you are getting the fundamental training that you need.

@@kudoista Thanks! I have a brown belt in goju ryu karate but I need more experience on the ground and in the clinch, but thanks a lot! :)
