Kugluktuk

Our visit to Kugluktuk, Nunavut allowed us to witness a shining example of what can happen when a community comes together and stands up to make a change. Haunted by a rising number of suicides related to alcohol, community members such as Millie Kuliktana decided enough was enough. Creating a safe space to encourage youth to express themselves and take an active role in shaping their community is one of the solutions that could lead to a better future.
Lors de notre visite à Kugluktuk, au Nunavut, nous avons été témoin d’un exemple remarquable de ce qui peut se produire lorsqu'une communauté se rassemble et se serre les coudes pour changer les choses. Frappés par un grand nombre de suicides liés à l'alcool, des membres de la communauté, tels que Millie Kuliktana, ont décidé que cela suffisait. Créer un espace positif pour encourager les jeunes à s'exprimer et à jouer un rôle actif dans leur communauté pourrait être une partie de la solution.

This morning I checked to see where it was the coldest reported spot in North America, and the rest of the world. -41 Degrees Celsius in Kugluktuk was the global winner. Got me to check up on the place and found this video. Hope things have hanged for the better and the youth has something to look forward to.
