Personally, I don't care if Woyrsch 'sounds like' Beethoven, Brahms or any other - I have had enough of them, both in concert and in my record collection. Why not just enjoy the music of any 'Woyrsch' out there, without any 'comparisons' or stupid remarks like 'if it sounds like Beethoven or Brahms or if it does not sound like them, we do not have to listen to it'

@@johannesbrahms7414 Personally, although I recognise Mahler's genius, I am fed up with the fact that the wider symphonic repertoire has been virtually obliterated by the cult of that particular composer. We need to look far wider - at other fine composers (i.e. contemporaries of Mahler) such as Woyrsch, Georg Schumann, Wilhem Berger, etc. who never get a look in.

It's not the old classical music that's the problem It's that atonality, 12 tone and most of 20th century sucks Composers are not ridiculed,allowed to " compose" with melody and harmony

Certamente, muitos amantes da boa música como eu próprio, estão felizes com o conteudo diversificado que este magnífico canal disponibiliza e, certamente, também, todos agradecemos. São obras magníficas de autores igualmente magníficos que não tiveram merecidos espaços na maioria das salas de concertos!... As partituras, mesmo com algumas dificuldades de obtenção estariam nas grandes orquestras, mas interpretar sempre os mesmos nem precisa ensaiar muito, e, em razão disso, muitas obras magníficas continuarão na obscuridade, o que é de lamentar, mas, incansáveis pesquisadores de conteúdos e canais de altíssimo nível como KulhauDifeng, José Ignácio H e Lusofolias, alem de alguns outros, colocam em vitrine essas desconhecidas maravilhas. Woyrsch died in Opava in 1944. From listening to his music it is imposiible to deduce that the war was going on in full swing , the air sirens were used all the time. The painting illustrating his symphony is much more in tune with his music. Both music and painting are amazing.

I appreciate the Romantic era in music a great deal. But just as there are scads of lesser-known composers and pieces of music from the Baroque and Classical periods that have been unearthed in recent years, we have the same with the deeper exploration of the Romantic era that is happening today, thanks in part to the pioneering work of the German CPO label. While not objectionable in any way, this symphony by Woyrsch falls into the same category: not especially memorable but worthy of the occasional hearing -- particularly when one is tired of "yet another" outing of a Bruckner or Brahms symphony.

I can't share the enthusiasm of other people here. This is a terribly dull work, lacking inspiration and development. Quite bland overall. The best movement is the 4th. The best thing about it is the picture on the video to be honest. The 2nd Symphony is rather similar, and again, the 4th mov. is the best one there. From the 3rd Symphony things begin to get better. The 4th and 5th Symphonies convey more confident ideas and there is more 'meat'.
