1:53 I would put two LIDARs in front for safety reasons just in case since moving forward is the primary direction of movement. If one LIDAR fails, the other could intercept all environment reading. I would put even a third one. I would draw an analogy to a crashed Boeing that was caused by having only two gyroscopes, one failing and showing false read data while another working properly. While the computer on board of Boeing was deciding which gyro to trust on the readings it chose the readings from a wrong one. It was later asked why 2 gyros are used on board of civilian aircraft and 4 gyros on military aircraft. Although KUKA is not dealing with live people on board, neither it is subject to high speeds, diagonal side turns may have insufficient data since the LIDAR is placed on one of the sides.

If a lidar fails you will see nonsense results. When moving, change in results is necessary. If the wheel encoder and the lidar SLAM differ too much it's a clear indicator something is wrong and the vehicle should be stopped, unlike a gyroscope which expects the same constant result, lidar values change. Boeing had bad software though. If any of the sensors information collides this should immediately indicate a critical error and both values should have been passed on to the pilot to make the decision.

This is pure Lagrange, Hamilton, Jacobi, Poisson Mechanics. KUKA is literally based on pure and exact mathematics and physics. I can't expect anything less from the Germans. German scientists understands this discipline up to abstract levels. Robotics and technology advanced significantly due to the Germans. I hope to live long enough seeing Germany being recognized by all the profound contributions to Architecture, Robotics and structural engineering they made.

I see what appears to be 4 IR proximity sensors, and judging from the way this robotic platform can move I'd assume it uses Mecanum wheels of some kind. The end coupling device is also interesting. The platform obviously has heavy load capability, because that plane fuselage is not that light. Nice large warehouse mobile tool!

Most KUKA robots are developed for programming in KRL (KUKA Robot Language), which can be done manually in the control pendant or with external tools, such as KUKA.WorkVisual or KUKA.Sim Pro. However, we are developing a platform called iiQKA, which will allow for control of the robot in any programming language, and will also be open for developers to write applications that they can sell or provide in an app store. www.kuka.com/iiQKA

"SLAM based navigation" So, like a roomba?
@KUKARobotGroup
@KUKARobotGroup 3 жыл бұрын
It's a bit more complex than that. If you have a home AGV-style vacuum, you may notice that it keeps running into things in order to navigate its environment. Obviously, with more advanced AGV products like cars and robots you don't want that. KUKA.NavigationSolution enables autonomous navigation of mobile platforms - with no risk of collision and without the need for artificial markings. The software acquires all the data from the safety laser scanners and wheel sensors and uses them to create a corresponding map of the surroundings by means of the SLAM method (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping). The system responds to changes in the environment - which occur frequently in a flexible logistics system. The use of virtual tracks makes it possible to move the platform exclusively along defined routes.

Have those wheels been patented? If I want to use them in a project that I eventually wish to profit on do I have to pay the inventor of those wheels a commission? how would I know if my idea has already been invented? also how could I incorporate that invention to my project and sell it legally? Is there a way to know these things?
@quadbravo
@quadbravo 6 жыл бұрын
The wheels are commercially available from a number of sources. www.andymark.com/Mecanum-s/53.htm If your idea uses such a wheel just buy it and use it. The wheels have a number of drawbacks. First, they have a minimal contact point so there can be traction issues and they have limited capacity. Also, vehicles, in general, start with a design the provides equal wheel loading. This simulation shows a vehicle without a suspension so they would have to bogey 2 sets of wheels to make this work reliably because no floor is flat. Generally vehicles are not patentable because they don't meet a certain set of rules. There are exceptions to everything. To be eligible for a patent your idea has to be new, useful, non-obvious and statutory.

You're right. This video doesn't show all elements of mobile robotics solutions. Mobile solutions are usually part of an overarching automation system which takes into account the customer's bespoke manufacturing environment and requirements. We're putting an increasing number of resources into AGVs. If you're interested in some of the latest developments or in connecting with our AGV team directly, go to www.kuka-iimotion.com/app?sc_camp=173709BED38B48CFACBF8019B4920903 and scroll down to Automotive Solutions and register for the AIVI video, which will come out on Thursday. You can also talk directly with experts with the chat button.

There are similar technologies in autonomous vehicles, whether you're talking about a car, a robotic platform or a vacuum cleaner. You have the vehicle, the sensors, the software, etc. Of course, they all also have different functions, they have to meet different standards and they have different price points. For mobile robotics, for example, the challenges of navigating a manufacturing floor are far different than a robot vacuum navigating a living room. For example, we would want to reduce downtime by pathing the AGV in the most efficient and safest route. Also, a robotic AGV in manufacturing is part of an automation system: it has input and output signals firing between the robot controller and the PLC in much more complex way than, for example, a home vacuum linked to a smart home speaker.
