This is the first video in a new series I'm going to be doing about kumihimo 101. It will be introducing the kumihimo disks for any beginners that want to start doing kumihimo and hopefully help with choosing what you want to start with, as it can be a bit of a jungle when you are just starting out. I hope you enjoy.

Thank you for doing a Basics Series. Your starter kit is wonderful and the instructions are easy to follow. My biggest challenge is maintaining consistent tension and determining stretching. When calculating the length of cording for a necklace based on how much was used in a bracelet of the same pattern, the necklace required a great deal more than the calculated amount and I don’t understand why. So I look forward to the entire series.

Great idea doing a beginner series. I adore all your wonderful clever videos. I am not a total beginner but was surprised to learn things I didn't know about these disks! I wonder if you use the Marudai and if so, whether you will do a video on it because I have heard that it is much quicker to work on than the foam disks?

I would love to learn how to maintain constant tension, and how to do beading correctly. Also how to determine how much cording or wire you need for a given project.

What are the numbers on the disks for? I don't get it. Could you do a video explaining that? I mean using 8 strands they always go in the same spots to start the project. please and thank you.

Are the non branded ones made of foam (like the bead smith ones?). Also, im assuming the round one you feature on your video is the 6” diameter? Thank you

I am making a shepard/rock sling which requires going from a round to a flat back to a round braid. Is it possible to do such a thing on these disk?

Hi Christina It is very good idea to give us some helpful notes about the tools we deal with. Really it will be very useful to be familiar with the basic concepts. Please I have two question the first is about the the relation between the length of threads according to its thickness and the number used to do bracelet or necklace.The second question is how to use these tools to make 40 piece of thread. Thank you very much for your unlimited help. Regards Soheirghozzi

Great thanks. I'd like to know how the work out the lenghts I need to make braids. And how to determine the patterns, i know that depends on how you place the cords. Thanks for all your tutorials. 😊

Love your videos. I would love to learn how to plan a pattern with beads. I made your ombre necklace and it came out just perfectly, but I don't truly understand how to plane the beads on the string to get a specific pattern. Thanks!

Thank you so much. I actually already have a video where I show how I make a beaded kumihimo pattern kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4CulWZspt2Nl5I, but I will probably make a video about that in this series as well. I hope that helps 😃

Love your videos! I was wondering if you have tried the KumiLoom, which is an octagon-shaped disc. Claims to be able to make round and flat braids.

I think this is a good idea, when I first started to make kumihimo a few years ago (wow has it really been that long?) I watched and subscribed to your videos, and learnt a lot of great techniques, like how to add beads to a braid. I love your patterned beaded bracelets, but have trouble working out how to place the beads on the cords to create the pattern in the braid... could you please do a tutorial on that?
@CSLdesigns
@CSLdesigns 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I'm glad you think so. Hehe, oh tell me about it. When you think back on something and realise how long it's been 😆 I actually already have a tutorial where I show how I do that I made a while ago. So that might be helpful kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4CulWZspt2Nl5I, but I will probably bring it up in this series as well 👍

Thank you very informative I learnt a lot. Someone I know that does kumihimo swears by the octagon disk. She says its easy for both round and flat designs. What do you think of them because I've never heard you mention them?
@CSLdesigns

You're welcome and thank you. Interesting, I've never tried that one. I have seen a few like that, and I might try and get hold of a few other kinds of disks like that to try in the future. I've also really wanted to try the one with 64 slots for a while.
