I'm. 40 yr old female . Haven't done karate since I was 14/15.. I been so unfit lately with sore back. Ankles etc. ... I ALLWAYS remember my karate even from back then . And lately I been practicing it. And I can't believe how that memory muscle stays with you like that , from karate.. it's ALLREADY helping my ankles, back. Confidence etc.. it doesn't matter how young old you are when U learnt this. You will have this for LIFE!!.. ITS A BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL THING. I LOVE KARATE!.. 😀

this guy is a great instructor. the analogy he uses and how he trains with the students makes him very respectable just from watching the video.

Christian Scharnhorstm, he is a student of Hanshi Tasaki that is something very few know about

I remember doing this exercise in Shotokan Karate, but we were to taught to keep our back leg straight and not to come up on the ball of the foot....If you did that in Kumite our instructor would not award you the point.

On punch heel should remain planted firmly on the ground connecting through the leg, hips and shoulders.
@GKRKarate3 жыл бұрын
The heel can remain on the ground in a shorter, higher stance. But to gain reach (as in this drill), to have a longer, lower stance, having the heel on the ground would greatly reduce both reach an power. That said, even in shorter stances, the heel being on the ground usually weakens a punch. The heel being on the ground in a Zenkutsu dachi is more for grappling, but not striking.

Min 1:05: he says "you always punch beyond ¿square? Is that an expresion? I'm not a native english speaker. Can somebody help me with that? Thanks!
@giggadygoogog7 жыл бұрын
"Square on" referees to the 4 right angles between the hips of two combatants forming a square and facing each other. It is as opposed to "side on". So beyond square means you reach a bit more to make extra distance.
@lucasgosling20414 жыл бұрын
I think it refers to the hips actually, gyaku hanmi position provides additional extension without the need for the upper body to be leaning forward
@robinsonmoreira31278 жыл бұрын
The foot should tread with the heel to stick, the enegy rises from the heel to the hip.

Tori uke drill, basic beginner technique, to teach timing and courage, otherwise fairly useless in Kumite as an experienced fighter would punch to the face or head
