The first movie was about resolving Shifu's past mistakes with Tai Lung, both literally defeating Tai Lung and giving Shifu a second chance by teaching Po. The second movie is about letting go of the past and focussing on who you are now in the present. The third movie is about the passing of the torch from Shifu to Po and Po learning how to teach kung fu to the next generation

For those familiar with kung fu / traditional chinese medicine, these three things also represent the three pillars: 1) Jing (physical essence) 2) Chi 3) Shen (spirit) Each in turn can nourish the other, and the term "chi kung", which literally means "energy work" is a powerful training method to nourish all of them, expand your consciousness, be free of illness, give longevity and full of energy and vitality. But it must be high-level chi kung (also spelt qi gong in chinese). Tai chi is similar, it means 'supreme ultimate", which is essentially a series of movements to not just attain a powerful chi flow but also build internal force, and become proficient in combat if needed. Tai chi is much more than just flowery movements by old people in a park, which many would think nowadays. If you decide to take up on of these powerful healing arts, make sure the teacher looks healthy and energised and has a sparkle in his eye him/herself. Otherwise, they are not practicing it at a high-level, and the kung fu is not authentic.

A fun theory people have is that as Kai said, Oogway betraying him wasn’t a over-exaggeration and that oogway himself used to be a war lord, as it’s stated he had his own armies. Oogway changed after he was wounded and the pandas saved him, and Kai likely felt genuinely betrayed by his brother in arms for just turning on him seemingly out of nowhere.

Oogway is probably inspired by the story of Ashoka the Great. He's not a king, but he at the very least was spiritually converted away from the ways of war in a similar manner to what the stories portray of Ashoka. Substitute "Chi" for "Buddhism"

I adore that when Kai and Oogway first fight at the start of the movie, it’s clear that not only do they know each other, they genuinely like one another. They get along, they smile when they see each other, at one time these two genuinely deeply cared for each other and even though they are opposing now, that care is still there. It’s such a nice touch.

The panda village is what was left of the escapees after the massacre with few descendants since the years have passed. The mother is definitely dead, but it's implied since it's still a kids movie, so they still refrain from saying death. The spirit realm is basically the afterlife, so Po killed Tai Long, and everyone that resides there died.

I don't think Tai Long "died" since his body was sent to the spirit realm too but he doesn't have a way to get back, so yes and no. I think of it like Enoch from the Book of Enoch, went to heaven but never died. But yes kids movie so hard to say.

When people die they go to Otherworld but if you have the ability you can go there while you're alive because it's a physical location but it doesn't mean when you're there you're dead. But if you want to go with your logic then Po killed himself and then did a Jesus and resurrected himself from the dead which means he can never truly die because he can always come back. So either the spirit world is a place he can go to and send others to while they're still alive or Po is immortal, your choice.

Oogway died (decided to leave the mortal world), after he sees that a Panda is here (which he probably thought were extinct) and he trusts Shifu to train him to make him the true Dragon Warrior with Chi powers. fun fact if you look closely in at least one scene you can see that Tai Lung from the first movie is one of the Jade amulets Kai has on his person. He just never uses him as a Jombie for some reason.

I believe it's due to Tai Lung being so powerful, Kai can only make Jombies out of those with weaker Chi without risk of losing control over them. (Which is why he never dared to use Oogway as one)

In my opinion, Kung Fu Panda 1-3 is the greatest trilogy of movies of all time. Take each movie individually and you can certainly find other films that can top them, but as a unit I don't think there is anything that compares. That's because each of the movies' main lessons are all about becoming a better person, a better version of you, and the order in which they showcased these lessons is perfect: Body, Mind, and Spirit/Soul. The first movie is all about accepting and improving your physical self, the second movie's theme revolves around Po's mental trauma with goal of reaching Inner Peace with one's self, and finally with this movie it is about trying to obtain a higher power than one's self with this movie's answer to that being community helping and supporting each other. On specifically that third lesson, different cultures &/or religions may argue & debate about the end goal of one's spirituality and also on the path of getting there, but regardless of all that bickering the intent is still the same. Even if the series's presented problems & answers are not exactly what you're going through, it can still be applied in the same general matter of "Self Improvement and Realization in this Order: Body, Mind, and Spirit/Soul." It is also for this reason why I am scared of Kung Fu Panda 4 ruining this perfect trilogy. At the time of writing this, it has come out now and I haven't seen it myself yet, but hopefully its writers will be able to find and showcase the next step in this process to keep this theme going.

This movie really did feel like the culmination of Po's journey over these movies so far. I'm very happy with how it all turned out, and while Kai might not have been on the same level as Lord Shen, he still did a perfectly fine job. I'm very pleased with it. I don’t think I’ve seen anybody talk about it but when Po tells Li he’s gonna go defend the valley near the start, the lighting around Li turns red. Shen’s color was red to represent the blood on his hands, so Li was immediately getting PTSD from learning his son was going into danger again.

Kai is definitely a step down from Shen and Tai Lung but he’s still a villain I really love. His amazing theme sampled from Imagine Dragons, his cool design, his power level and his very unique fighting style (it’s dope that Shifu, Oogway’s only direct student, is the only one who was able to fight Kai on equal terms). J.K. Simmons I think does better as villains like Omni-Man who are more serious, but he still does great as Kai. I feel like this movie was the one executives threw notes at the production crew saying 2 was too mature so make it lighter. Much more jokes and cute happy pandas. Not as bad as Alien Force, but not quite as graceful as when Return of the Jedi got lighter than Empire but still had a more balanced tone. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the full circle of Oogway’s Legacy. And Po looking and seeing he finally is the warrior of legend he always dreamed of being, and has the love and friendship of so many good people. Great way to have ended if they wanted to.

Kung Fu Panda 3 is another great movie! Po has two really great dads. I loved seeing the Panda Village, Li Shan and Mr. Ping slowly getting along, the emotional scenes, and Po's epic fight against Kai in the real world and the Spirit Realm (shoutout to J.K. Simmons for his great performance)! Also I love listening to the music in this movie, especially the tracks that play during the battle in the Panda Village and the final battle against Kai! We love our Blind Wave fellows. They are not zoologists. Tai lung the Snow Leopard, Shen the Peacock. This trilogy tells two different stories depending on your point of view of The Valley of Peace, or the Secret Panda Village. The valley is saved by an outsider being himself-the village is saved by a homer being someone else. The entire story is hinged on Oogway, whom we miss as he leaves, and we barely know why.

While the second movie is undeniably better, this movie makes such a great conclusion to the trilogy, especially with Poe surpassing Master Shifu in the end. It's a beautiful final film. Which is why I have no clue how they're going to follow it up with a 4th film 😅
