saw Kung Pow: Enter The Fist in theaters... to this day, it is still my #1 favorite movie experience... was stoned out of my mind, but somehow still remembered nearly the entire movie. thank goodness it was as short as it was, lol

In 2003 I was 19 and interned at a computer store that had some huge flatscreen connected to a dvd player for background music; every saturday kung pow was at least featured once, and had customers equally baffled and laughing their asses off.

This is the perfect stoner movie, taking a dime store Jim Carrey and superimposing him into a Shaw Brothers kung fu movie. It's so unbelievably stupid and yet, equally entertaining.

Fun fact, Steve Oedekerk the director and writer for this movie also directed Ace Ventura When Nature calls, if you pay attention you can hear the same sound effects used in Kung Pow, Steve Oedekerk was also responsible for Back At The Barnyard movie and show AND he was behind O Entertainment, the animation studio behind Jimmy Neutron

I was a kid when I first saw this movie and I still love it to this day, me and my friends still endlessly quote it and the directors passion is so strong and genuine it really holds up for me. But if I'm being honest to myself yeah the cow scene holds it back, mostly because the cg is dated even by it's own standards and time when it came out but other than that I still love it

As someone who remembers seeing Kung Pow about a year or so after it was in theatres and totally not getting it - I totally appreciate the idea and wanted to like the movie a lot more than I actually did - it was refreshing to hear Brad describe it the same way.

I saw Kung Pow in theaters opening week of it’s original run. At the start of the show there were around 20 people in the theater, only two other people besides myself stuck around for the entire film. It’s the only time I’ve ever seen the majority of people walk out of a movie. It’s certainly a movie you ether get or absolutely hate.

Zerophillia is well-meaning, but it does have a problem with tone. Also, it’s hilarious that they actually bothered to cast the main character with two people who actually look similar to each other but didn’t bother when it came to casting the love interest.

I've seen Kung Pow: Enter the Fist SO many times...20 times is not enough, about 35-40 times perhaps? (had a Pay-per-view tv-card so I could watch some Pay per view movies alot..so this and Blade 2 I've seen so many times).
@daydreamcomedianne2 жыл бұрын
I actually like Zerophila. The actors are good, the effects are good, the twist is really good, and you're like "wait.... this actually kind of makes sense now." It's less teen comedy and more of an offbeat teen dramedy with some romance in it. Basically if you are a zerophiliac, every time you get aroused you start changing sex, and then when you climax, you fully transform. Which sucks if you're the lead who is not confident in his manliness and his sexuality and thinks he found his soulmate. And it also sucks because the character is in his late teens and is reasonably horny. So he basically can't do certain activities men his age like to do (hell men of all ages like to do) or else he'll change.

I remember King=Pow having the "wee-yoo-wee-yoo" voices that irritated me well past the point they stopped being funny, and the woman with the uni-boob. I thought I recognized the Amell brothers. And Code 8's visuals look somewhere in between "NETFLIX original movie" and "CW DC show", with a cheaper (even more) non-sensical plot ripped off from X-Men. And a movie about a boy who turns into a girl after sex? Is this a Pride Month entry? But the premise and budget would fit more in a porno.
@tinstrings63122 жыл бұрын
Oohh, I always thought Kung-Pow was a movie like that awful ping-pong/martial arts movie with Christopher Walken. You know, all modern footage with modern actors. Now that I know what it actually is, I should give it a chance.

Kung Pow always made me feel like a crazy person, because I should like it, and I don't. I'm a big fan of Airplane!, Airplane! 2, and Mystery Science Theatre 3000. This kind of thing is really up my alley. Yet, here I am, surrounded by people who love it, and I'm sitting there just puzzled thinking "is this supposed to be funny?" It's just stupid, not in a funny way, but in a concerned "is there something wrong with this guy?" way. I like dad jokes and Robot Chicken. Why isn't this working on me? I laugh hysterically at Troll 2 and The Room. I genuinely don't know if there is something wrong with the movie or me.

yeah. I've only seen clips of kung pow, and kindof hate it. I'm with Brad. I hear nothing but good things, and people swearing by it. but, then compare it to Kung fu hustle(2004) and Shaolin soccer (2001). hell no. The marketing does flavor my perception very badly. the cgi cow trailer is incredibly unfunny. the terrible gerbil nunchuck poster. if those represent this movie at all, I don't believe you. like the wee-oooh joke. yeah, not funny. code 8 was crowd funded. basically straight to DVD, streaming. though did technically have a theatrical release. forgettable is sadly correct. I had seen it, and totally forgot about it, and didn't even recognize it at first here.. should be compared to Push, and the like. freaks, etc.
