This fight is so good! Nen restrictions are so interesting! Just to clarify it’s only chain jail that is restricted to the spiders, his other chains are restricted to scarlet eyes, which do take a toll. he isn’t only restricted to the spiders. Also one of his unrevealed chains is OP af.

I like conditions and restrictions. Feel like chainsawman did a play on it with sacrificing body parts to use powers. Not sure why jjk fans hate binding vows so much as they feel like the same thing. They say cause it lets people get out of situations and is explained later or hinted at but that’s what hxh and most series do. Idk feels like if hxh was jjk popular or modern we’d get some haters infecting the series. Seems all popular newer series without the help of nostalgia get harsh critics. Doesn’t help that people reading weekly want breakneck pacing. Since 1 chapter is like 5 min of an episode. If they pushed an ep of content into one chapter it would be overload 😖eh just my rant.

To add to this it could be due to a series running long. The full mental alchemist series is beloved but during release people complained that the ending few chapters weren’t good. Now it’s considered one of the best shonen.

I thought I was in bizarro world the way we got a great season 2 by any older or newer standards given the harsh elements I don’t place blame all on mappa they tried going slower and people cried that aot was milked overlooking that the final season ep was almost movie quality for a tv series. Then tons online said hype gone didn’t watch it. Like real weird takes. Maybe I’m just into media in a different way aka for the art and hearing someone else’s story. Not reading 5 min of it aka a chapter and calling it trash mid badly written cause exposition or some buzz word and looking for likes and views. Not saying you can’t dislike something. But then I see one piece which got pretty toxic as arcs go on then turn around once a new one starts. They are hyping their series up loving the show and in comparison deep diving into potential ideas. All I see on jjk is crying and power scaling when we’re in a finale of an arc. People saying the villian should lose fast and how their unhappy all heroes are getting screen time others unhappy the series existed after season 1. It comes with territory of being popular. Same happened to demon slayer. Just happy hxh and one piece has such dedicated fans. I’m guessing all the reading dissuades people in hxh. So your left with people not reading just for hype and to dis it. Idk. Don’t think hxh could be dissected the way jjk fans dissect jjk. So just to clear up the confusion, Chain Jail is the only ability that is restricted for phantom troupe use only. He can still use Emperor Time against any opponent.

Another correction here: Kurapika becoming a specialist has nothing to do with his nen vows. It’s innate. The only abilities restricted by a vow are Chain Jail (use only against Spiders) and Judgment Chain (use only when eyes are scarlet).

The fact that it’s brought up later. I think people sleep on hxh and think only one piece is really a serious shonen to look for foreshadowing. That said all series do it but people clown on them unless they’re serious. Black clover for example hinted at the vice cap early on.

Before anything else, I think I have to correct one misunderstanding here. In order for the Middle Finger: Chain Jail to have such overwhelming power, Kurapika sets a rule to himself so that Chain Jail can only be used on the members of the Phantom Troupe. If he breaks this rule and uses the chain on someone else, he will lose his life. That means, only the ability who is contracted to his heart is his Chain Jail, the very fact that he can use his Thumb: Holy Chain to heal himself even though he is not part of Phantom Troupe, he can uses his Ring Finger: Dowsing Chain to find a missing person or objects, and it can also be used to determine whether someone is lying or not, among other things. And seeing from their edits on their videos with Kite having his arm chopped off, that means they already at the end or already finished the entirety of HXH, now it's not a spoiler anymore that Kurapika can put his Little Finger: Judgment Chain on other people since Killua and Gon tries to be put into the test with it. He still have his Index Finger but that ability is on the manga onwards so it is irrelevant for now. So in short, Kurapika can use Scarlet Eyes, Emperor Time and all the 4 Chains except Chain Jail when fighting a non Phantom Troupe entity.

The explanation about contract and condition is the same thing with binding vow from JJK. U offer something to gain something or sacrifice something to gain something, or u bet something to gain something, in kurapika’s condition, he bet his life to gain that power and only using that special abilty against phantom troupe, if he broke the rules he'll die.

I liked Kurapika from the start, but this arc solidified him as my favorite of the main four. Kind, intelligent, calculating, and extremely proficient in his nen abilities. Emperor Time was a wild reveal (ALL nen types)! Uvogin didn’t see it coming. This arc is even better in 1999, so I do recommend it if you guys ever double-back to watch the OG version.

FRI, Every second Kurapika spends using Emperor's time he loses 1 hour oh his life. In manga he accidently lost 5 years of his life because he passed away while active Emperor's time he slept for 9 hours or so while using it. You probably wouldn't know it until Hunter comes back so worth it.

Kurapika's powers are a little more complex than that, he is not exactly 100% of all categories, he is a Conjurer, so his proficiency in this category can reach up to 100%, in Transmutation it is 80%, in Enhancement and Manipulation 60% and Emission 40%. What his ability does is give 100% of the maximum capacity he could achieve, so in fact it is 100% of the 80% in Transmutation for example. The only category he can master 100/100 is Conjurer. Anyone who has doubts can read chapter 108, except for Mel who hasn't reached that part yet 😅

I thought it had more to do with his nen output. If Kurapika’s mastery was limited to him being a Conjurer, then that would make Emperor Time is useless once Kurapika gets enough experience, which doesn’t make sense. He gets 100% EFFICIENCY in every category, which is pretty much the same as saying he’ll have the same nen output as a natural-born Conjurer, Manipulator, Enhancer, Emitter, and Transmuter when his eyes are scarlet. It won’t replace actual training, but it definitely gives him a major advantage against other nen users because their nen can only go so far.

Kurapika isn’t infinite energy but I get he was just using it for an example. He just maxes out the potential energy he can give out. He enhanced his punch and focused all men on the impact without leaving any to cover his body which is very dangerous. So he’d still lose vs all troops together. His chains are invisible so they have to waste energy using gyro to see them. Add to that he is hinting at not having emperor time forever. He was tired and it wasn’t the sorta tired you can heal or he would have. I like that hxh fans can get these hints and not cry that it’s not all explained right away. Still salty that jjk fandom would be crying that kuripika had plot armor or something at this part and how the author doesn’t explain stuff and is a bad writer. ✍️ if I’m using the logic they have for jjk when powers are used and heroes or villians win.
