Death blight isn't that bad, mostly because the main way to build it is Fia's mist (no phantom hits) and it isn't good even with latency issues.

Bleed in ds2 had a lingering status debuff after the initial blood loss proc that reduced the affected players max stamina for a period of time, it was pretty unique but you didn't see it much cause it only did a measly flat 200 damage, and damage is king for 99% of people

While I'd never argue against updated netcode, I think for the specific problem that status effects pose, just fixing the problem of phantom hit buildup would make the game much better. Ds2 didn't have that problem, and yet every other Fromsoft game does. I'm not going to assume its an easy fix, but they HAVE done it before, and its something they should 100% pay attention to.

A case for Bleed and Frost @OnlyWaifu, with the removal of passive poise counting, all that is left is status counting. Meaning you can dictate when your next attack will stagger your opponent, even through hyper armor. There are some Super Armor exceptions, but status are the only thing in PvP that a player can use to secure advantage through hyper armor and to some extent even i-frames. Otherwise the game would be very awkward to play, since you can always reaction Hyper Armor depending on ash of war/weapon.

The arcane scaling on greases needs a severe nerf. Drawstring soporific grease is normal 42 build up, the fact that even 45 arcane builds up 280% of it is busted. At 80 arcane it’s 330%. For chopping halberds strength and dexterity get slightly highly AR for similar builds, but arcane gets a busted bonus or the ripple halberd.

Considering they ain't fixing the i-frames build up as they should have done that in their *previous* games, they should remove the stun on the proc. The status are strong as they are and all it does, is create jank. The status doesn't deserve true combos and FREE hitstun just for them.

unpopular opinion: frost is also strong for how easy is to apply, it reduces your hp by 10%, it makes your stamina regen slower, and most importatly, it reduces your defences by a significative ammount, basically it makes you more vulnerable to next attacks and it slowers you. edit: also about sleep/madness, while you're in the animation your defences are lowered by a lot, making the next attack deal a lot more of damange. so you can literally recive a 3 hit combo that can almost delete your whole hp bar. 4:38 XD

The status effect on phantom procs are a good thing. It makes high lat fights more enjoyable than they used to be. Forces you to mak3 actual decisions instead of being passive with a runny poke weapon since it's like pulling teeth to rollcatch/whiff punish a high lat player. Usually if youre complaining about phantom procs, you would have already been dead on a low lat match whether it being whiff punished or actually roll caught.

I think the real problem here is the net code. I really wanted to get into PVP, I tried for days. Half my matches had really bad connection and man, those are no fun at all. I got into it, because I thought, that fighting against human sized enemies would be fun because you can parry them and backstep, to nearly evade attacks and counter. But most of the time, all I can do is rush the enemy and hope my hits land before theirs, because timing is just not possible.

Frost infusion is also very cheap, there's not much of a drawback to use it, it has stun effect, it has debuff effect, it has insanely high proc without any stat investment and it's that makes it the most commonly used infusion in the game

Tbh, this seems more like the issue is latency than status effects. Even so, I think that the number one thing FROM should work on for their next Souls game is getting all the tech right (I think they have enough resources for that now), and ideally they'll apply those upgrades to ER.

Id say pre nerf bleed was indeed broken. And status still needs a lot of work. Its suppose to be status BUILDUP, not instant win button by simply landing a power-stance attack, that also immediately procs all bleed equipment like white mask, blood talisman boosting your damage, stuns the opponent and usually outright kills them. Getting status procs is suppose to be a reward for landing consecutive attacks, the attack bonuses from white mask and the bleed talisman might as well just give you 30% more damage all the time if you can proc them with a single attack. Really its a joke that people called bleed a status buildup in the first place because there was no buildup, they might as well have cheated an extra 1,000 AR on their weapon all the time since you only have to land 1 attack to win most matches. Actually an extra 1,000 AR would still be more fair because it doesn't stun you just from getting hit once and you can at least dodge normal attacks. You add awful net code and not being able to actually dodge status even during i-frames, you get the worst souls PVP since Demon Souls was released. It literally destroys the community. Think of all the people who picked up Elden Ring who never played a souls game coming in and getting one-shot over n over, try to i-frame attacks and yet it doesn't work, for new comers and casuals that's got to be obnoxious. And they will either think that the Souls series is just dogshit and always like this (it wasnt) or just decide this entire series and genre is not for them. And I cant tell you how many times Ive seen people in the comments say they wont have anything to do with the online aspect of the game because of this nonsense, they PVE only. This is what I mean by destroying the community, driving out everyone except the people who like running these broken builds, hardcore fans and Souls veterans who can fight against this awful jank through sheer skill and experience. I just wish Fromsoft would get away from this one-shot type of balancing where all you gotta do is press L1 and win the fight. Hell, Dark Souls 2 has far more balanced PVP than this. There was a reason that PVP scene blew up and was so good, even though most people thought DS2 was the worst souls game, people were down for the PVP and online aspect. Personally I still very much enjoy ER, but Ive been playing these games since Demon Souls so I can deal with it. But I would never expect a new comer or average joe to just deal with the lack of common sense balancing and fair play. If I didnt have the years of practice and skill I dont think Id enjoy the online play like I do. I would probably get frustrated and play something else thats actually competitive, balanced and not a busted meme.

Isn’t this the channel that posted a video talking about how amazing bleed has been in 1.10, something about nuking unsuspecting players with blood flame blade and spinning slash, now it’s bad all of a sudden it’s good to see people can grow up even if it was only a week ago

Yes, bloodflame is amazing and incredibly good. But the phantom hits are an issue, that's undeniable. Both things are not mutually exclusive.

@@OnlyWaifuYT phantom hits have been an issue for a while not just in ER and should always be taken into account when you’re choosing to use status effects, it’s kind of a have your cake and eat too kinda of thing you wanted bleed this is what happens you’re gonna bleed out to phantom hits if less people made status effects out to be so op maybe they wouldn’t get used so much because you’re right it’s an issue, most of the time status effects are applied through ghosts hits
